As the CEO of GUBERMAN-PMC, LLC — Someplace special is the epitome of excellence. Tony the owner is a fantastic host and his personnel are second to none. The décor and ambiance is simple but tasteful. Someplace Special is the best restaurant in the area– you have to try their hand stretched pizza and traditional home cooking for Italian dishes. Reasonable prices and top notch service. Tony the owner will make sure your satisfied, good selection of drinks, establishment is clean, Laurie and Galen are GREAT!

Nothing special. Décor was fresh and modern, while the service and food was underwhelming. It’s a very average pizza and pub type place. They had Goose Island IPA, which was good and cold. The spinach and artichoke dip was basically a warm cream cheese smoothie with chips. The pizza«cooked on the brick» was undercooked and about the same as a medium chain pizza — hand stretched with lots of cornmeal. Putnam has a good little cluster of restaurants over here. No need to settle for ordinary.

I starting come here as a young kid with my grandfather. Granted, the place has changed through the years as has a lot of downtown Putnam, but it’s nice to come back and see a familiar restaurant. Good service and pasta. The pizza was as delicious as ever, but the mushrooms on the pizza would have been better if they were fresh rather than canned. I still love the place, and I appreciated a martini in honor of my grandfather on my last visit. Good to the last drop.

Great food! The Asian chicken salad is an office favorite– their sesame dressing is to die for! When my mother was in town we tried their veggie pizza, which was no surprise delicious as well. Mac and cheese caprese was a tasty twist on comfort food. Only drawbacks– I wish they didn’t charge extra for dressing and their eggplant parm grinder was a bit too dry for my palate. Service is always friendly and quick, ambiance is pleasant!

The website boasts that this is the best Italian in Windham County according to Connecticut Magazine. If it is it must be the only Italian restaurant in Windham County. I ordered the eggplant parmesan. It was large and served over penne pasta. It was also fried and came in an unremarkable red sauce. The beer menu was limited with not an Italian beer to be found. And, as if that wasn’t disappointing enough the meal and evening was permeated by the nasal tones of second rate country music. Really? In a restaurant boasting it’s Italian cuisine? Really second rate and not worth the hour trip we made to get there.

This is definitely an example of how local, authentic food in Putnam triumphs over commercialized, chain restaurants. A friend was visiting from out of town so we went to Someplace Special for drinks and dinner before going home after a long day of antiquing. We were greeted promptly by a nice man working behind the bar, that happened to not only be nice, but also offered genuine service. We both got the fish and chips, and I know fresh fish when I have it, and this is definitely fresh. The homemade tartar sauce and coleslaw was a nice surprise. The fries were cut a little thin, and I prefer a thicker cut, even so they were still very tasty. I do not usually review restaurants, but the overall great food, atmosphere, service, and fair prices are what drove me to come to Unilocal. Overall, Someplace Special is really, someplace special.

I really loved it here! Food was great, great service, comfortable atmosphere, great selection of food and beer, and not overly loud music. It reminds me of a pizza pub but with a far better selection. I had the steak and cheese and my wife had the chicken parm sandwich. We definitely will be going back.

Went here in the late-afternoon after wedding dress shopping at a nearby shop. The food was excellent, both my Mom and I got the special of the day, the Gobbler Burger(Turkey burger w/cranberry mayo on a maple roll). I’m now going to try to recreate the maple roll!

I went on a Sunday and got great service but terrible food. Melissa the server was excellent, only reason I didn’t ask for money back, felt bad for her. Owner walked around yelling at people. This place sucks, don’t waste your money!

Went on a Sunday afternoon just to grab a sandwich and a couple of beers outside in their sidewalk tables. Service was excellent, sandwiches and subs were fine, and the beers and mixed drinks were ok too. Not much more to say than this place was ok for a Sunday afternoon stop. Nothing more, nothing less.

Good food at reasonable prices. A special was Ahi tuna and it was great. Will continue to come here.

They only get 2 stars because the servers are very nice and the bbq pizza is pretty tasty(but it’s hard to ruin barbecue sauce and cheese). Everything else pretty much sucks. I had the chicken marsala… over-cooked and dry noodles and chicken, sauce that only tasted of salt. I ordered delivery today out of desperation and paid a total of $ 20 for tiny piece of dry, once again over-cooked, salmon that I specifically asked to be cooked to medium, mushy broccoli and about 2 tablespoons of white rice. Neverrrrr again.

Went to Someplace Special the day before Thanks Giving. We were promptly seated and waited on by Mike. Who was/is very good at what he does. I had a very good chicken pot pie and my wife ate chicken tenders with sweet potatoe fries. Very good food and clean warm atmosphere. Would definitely eat here more often if I didn’t live on the west coast.

There must be something special about this place if it manages to stay open… Stick to draft beers as their mixed drinks are too imaginative to be good. Got 2 Margaritas and they were awful, had them taken back and were still charged for them. Only got a few apps between the 5 of us and also not impressed with any of them. While the jalapenos were a good idea the bacon was raw. Nachos had processed cheese and the chicken was quite salty. Buffalo tenders were chewy and cold. Spinach dip was also quite salty. I will not return not will i recommend this special place.

We were on a day trip from RI to see a concert at Indian Ranch in Webster, MA. where we met up with a friend who took us here after the show because he had really enjoyed the place previously and it was close enough for a short drive from the Ranch. First there is the very nice atmosphere and the waitstaff was quick and courteous. We ordered mixed cocktails which were perfectly made, something which these days is not always a given in all too many establishments. We then ordered the appetizers that our friend had raved about, the Jalapeño Poppers — these little gems were the best I had ever tasted, consisting of sliced open fresh peppers filled with cheese, wrapped in bacon and then baked in the oven. Seriously, it would be worth a trip to Someplace Special for these alone. We then shared a Mediterranean Pizza which was Greek style and very good, both a nicely cheesy and deliciously topped pie. The owner who happened to be there, is friendly and welcoming. I always enjoy when an owner comes to your table and asks how everything is. We talked about the Red Sox game which was currently playing on the tv, a bit about the local town of Putnam(a really charming and wonderful town to stop in) and he gave me some golf pointers. In this day and age when it can be difficult to get good service, quality food and leave satisfied I felt that Someplace Special really was all that their name states. If you visit, don’t hesitate to try those outstanding Poppers!

I am a local-walking distance. Positives: It is newly renovated and came out of the 80’s to compete with the other restaurants. Th chicken sandwich is good. Pizza is decent. Good for delivery… they are usually quick and pleasant. Negatives: Don’t bother ordering a pasta dish… they are wicked expensive and greasy. The service is slow too, even when they aren’t busy. One time I saw a young couple come in for a specific special they were offering, but it needed to be ordered before 5:00pm. The couple walked in at 4:45. The waitress came over at 5:05, and when they asked about the special the waitress said that it was after 5:00 and they couldn’t get the special. The young couple explained that they arrived at 4:45 and the waitress basically didn’t care and they didn’t get the special. When they did the renovations, they raised the prices but the quality of the food didn’t change.

Our first time here on a trip to Putnam and found this gem of a place to eat! We were in the mood for a casual supper and their BBQ chicken pizza fit our appetites perfectly. Really tasty, not overwhelming BBQ sauce and great crust on thinner side. Just right amount of crunch to it. Very pleasant staff and they had an 80’s radio station on during our visit which was enjoyable. We would come back here when in the area again for sure!
