Couldn’t have a rare hamburger even with the kitchen trying twice(with a thermometer!) My friend chicken pot pie looked good enough, no raves. The menu for lunch or for dinner is quite similar, not tempted to give it a second time, sorry!

Been there several times and never disappointed. The food is quality in taste and presentation, décor inviting, and the service is professional and friendly. The entire experience has always been enjoyable which makes Bluestone Bistro one of my favorite go-to restaurants in the area.

Thank you Unilocal!I don’t live in the area, so I went on a Unilocal search looking for a place for dinner. Specifically American type food, close by, $$. So glad we stopped here for dinner. Walked in to a cozy and well decorated restaurant that was a little small but at the same time fairly spacious. Got seated right away for an early Friday night dinner around 5:30. Looked over the menu(even though I looked up their menu and knew I wanted the flat iron steak already) Menu is small, but makes it easier to pick something. First thing I noticed was they actually played great music. All rock from the white stripes, to Howie day, to John Mayer. Warm bread with garlic and oil was brought to the table and the oil was super infused with garlic. FOOD: Started with the butternut squash soup. Very good! Piping hot, smooth, perfectly seasoned had that little nutmeg-y spice to it. It was a large serving and can be split for an app with someone. Got the flat iron steak medium rare, cooked to perfection and already sliced. Very tender cut of meat. String beans were lightly sautéed and seasoned perfectly. Whipped mashed potatoes were also fantastic. Wild mushroom sauce tasted like a wine based sauce and it was delicious. Perfect with the steak and potatoes. Pretty much my favorite meal right here in one dish. My mom got the roasted chicken, fingerling potatoes with roasted fennel and she loved it. Let’s just say everyone was part of the clean plate club tonight. And the prices? Great! $ 20 for that steak dish and it was one of the best I’ve had, and that would be double that at a steakhouse on Long Island. Great service with a smile, and I could see this as a great place to eat out for couples. I will definitely come back.

Stopped after reading reviews on Unilocal and glad we did! Service excellent, food fantastic! Started with beer/cheese fondue with pretzels and was soo tasty! Then the chicken pot pie. One of the besti have had! This place is a hidden gem you should tell your friends about. We will definitely come back! Food is all fresh, house made, and delicious!

We had a relaxing dinner here. The berry salad with chicken(sans dressing) is excellent– I had grilled chicken on mine that was proportionally perfect and seasoned well. The berries were plentiful and fresh! Highly recommend(the sever said that this salad changes seasonally). My companions had the flat iron steak and hamburger, both enjoyed their meals. Server was friendly and informative.

I had the Cesar salad with chicken. The chicken was hot and freshly cooked. So many restaurants precook the chicken and then reheat. The salad was fresh. They also put a bottle of water on the table so you don’t have to keep flagging the waiter. My friend had shrimp tacos which were very good. We sat outside which while you are overlooking the parking lot was nice and quiet. Overall a very positive dining experience. Especially considering most of your other choices around are chain restaurants.

It was the first time we have eaten here. The food was terrible. The one waitress was not as attentive as she could’ve been but very sweet but considering we were the only guests here she could’ve Ben better. She was washing dishes, setting tables and everything else. The hamburger was as dry as wood. The pot pie was one layer of flour with a ton of gravy and no flavor for $ 16. — the pasta and chicken dish was drenched in a cream sauce with two pieces of burnt bacon on top. They had no bottled water and oh I almost forgot the bread they served tasted like two day old focaccia. It was a Tuesday night… truly felt like we just threw $$ out the door.

The flat iron steak was amazing. They have homemade garlic-infused olive oil with their bread. The berry salad had wonderfully ripe berries. Highly recommend!

My only complaint with Bluestone is that it feels like a few of the meals are a bit above average price for what you get but not at a loss for quality. Other than that, I find dining here to be quite enjoyable. If I had not retired from that big corporation across the street, I would probably have come here a bit more often for lunch or an after-dinner drink. The beer and cocktail lists are concise but appealing, and I liked that they had beers on draft from 2 local breweries, Newburgh and Captain Lawrence out of Elmsford in Westchester County(drafts are $ 5). The atmosphere here is quite appealing, good lighting, fun music. Service was first-rate. The menu is 1 page, but there will be several interesting specials. We started with a charcuterie plate of assorted meats and cheeses($ 12). It was quite tasty, and the stone-ground mustard accompanying it complimented the meats well. It’s just barely enough for 2 people. The pan-seared salmon($ 18), comes with pureed cauliflower(which I’d always prefer over mashed potatoes) and a pecan pesto. But the portion is somewhat smallish — I’m not a good judge of size, but it’s somewhere between 2 and 4 oz. I asked for my Bluestone Burger($ 12) medium, but it came out medium-well. The rosemary fries that accompanied it were light and crisp with enough rosemary to make the flavor obvious but not overpowering. Bluestone is a nice option in the area compared to all the other chain restaurants up the road.

Great food. Great staff and service. Great price value. Not so great location. Off the beaten path and easily overlooked. Probably one of the best bang for the buck in the Poughkeepsie area with really good food. Try it and don’t judge a book by its cover. In a small out of the way strip mall.

Highly recommend! My family and I ate here while traveling and found the food and atmosphere were excellent. The menu was not overwhelming when it came to choices, but there was something each of us liked. I had the pasta which was excellent. The cream sauce was excellent & I liked the strips of chicken in it too. The pot pie was delicious with a flaky golden crust. My kids had the burger & the chicken tenders which were excellent since they ate it all. My only disappointment is that I couldn’t take the leftovers back to the hotel.

Ate here with some friends before heading to the movies. I found the servers very knowledgeable in not only the food but the wine as well. The food was good and so was the price.

Went to this place for lunch recently and the whole experience went very well from beginning to end. The service was attentive and on top of us, I really enjoyed the menu selection, I ended up ordering the chicken pot pie, although it was lunch I can’t say it filled me up as much as I would have liked but nonetheless that wouldn’t stop me from going back again!

I think this restaurant has great potential, it just has to market itself because the location is off Route 9, so it’s easy to just drive on by. The menu is solid, not overly aggressive, probably just what Gordon Ramsey would want to see. I had the Mac and cheese with pulled pork, a bit of sweet mixed with cheese was a nice touch. It came out piping hot and bubbling in a cast iron skillet. Nice sized portion, too. There were specials and of course other entries. Hit up the web site for the selections. The décor was/is appealing. It always has been at this establishment that has gone through three owner/name changes that I know of. The proprietors were friendly, helpful, doing the customer-service thing well. I wish this establishment much success. I’ll be back as there are a few items I’d like to try.

This was a nice little restaurant. Nothing particularly outstanding about its menu and the eating experience. The pricing is reasonable and the food was good. If you want to provide some variety in your dining experiences, particularly for lunch, this is a good place to go. It wasn’t crowded for lunch during the week. The service was prompt and food delivered to the table in a timely manner. If you have to be careful with your lunch time, this is a good place to go.

Nice dinner here with a group! I liked the menu choices! You could have a burger or soup or salad… Or you could have one of the entrees with local ingredients! Everyone was happy with their selections. Their cheesecake was enjoyed by all and they even have fresh baked cookies that are served warm with milk. Will return.

Since the restaurant opened, I have returned many times. I have always been 100% satisfied with my choices, from appetizer and salads to entrée and dessert. The wine list has great choices at affordable prices. The ambiance is cozy and warm. The servers are pleasant and attentive and knowledgable about the menu. They always have interesting specials(which I normally order). I am glad to see consistency in their product and service.

Peter S gave this place 1 star and had an awful lot to say. Too bad none of it was about the food. Secondly, it is Peter’s ONLY review. So, before I start my formal review I would ask you readers to be selective with how you read/review these places. Anyway, we made a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday night. Menu looked great, but I’ll get to that in a minute. I was DD, so I didn’t drink, but my wife and inlaws said their drinks were great, and plentiful. My wife had some peach iced tea vodka drink that smelled pretty damned good. Appetizers: We had this pretzel and beer/fondue dip thing. It was incredible. I actually put my finger around the inside edge of the fondue bowl at the end. We also had a flat bread brick oven pizza. They do a pizza of the day and a margharita pizza. We went w the Marg pizza and it was pretty good. Entrees: I had the chicken pot pie. I loved it. There wasn’t pastry around the bottom, just over top, but it was delicious nonetheless. My wife had the chicken, risotto and spinach. It looked great, and she ate all of it. My father in law had the burger. He said it was literally the best burger he had ever had. And my mother in law had the flat iron steak w a mushroom reduction. She thought it was great. All the entrees were crazy good. Dessert: We had 2 coffees, 2 espressos and sambuca. We also had 3 crème brulees, and a peanut butter cup(like reeces) cheesecake. All in all, we thought the place was great. We can’t wait to go back.

Went here today on a recommendation — quite a disappointment. The dinner started out fair and got exceedingly worse as the evening progressed. Our appetizers were chicken wings($ 9) and a(single) poblano pepper stuffed with chili($ 8). The wings weren’t bad. They were dry rubbed. Good but not outstanding. They came with a sauce that was totally overpowered by worcestershire sauce. Thank goodness it was on the side. The poblano pepper should have been described as stuffed with rice(not chili). The chili was literally devoid of meat. It did have two or three beans in it though. Shouldn’t chili have meat in it? My wife ordered a hamburger with cheddar cheese($ 12.50) with rosemary fries and I ordered the Grilled Flatiron Steak($ 19) with mashed potatoes and asparagus, but substituted zucchini and squash instead of the potatoes. Her burger came out totally overcooked to the point she couldn’t eat it. The burger was overly infused with way too much worcestershire sauce as well. And the fries had no rosemary at all. They were shoestring fries that you would expect from a frozen bag. The Flatiron Steak order came out wrong, too — with potatoes and squash(no asparagus) and was drenched(yuk) with the same exact worcestershire sauce gravy that was on the side of the wings(do you usually put steak sauce on chicken wings? — wild mushroom bordelaise? you can’t fool me. I can tell you used the same sauce on the wings — there were no mushrooms in there). The meat had no evidence of being grilled and was too chewy to enjoy. The waitress was kind enough to bring the asparagus on a separate plate(which were fine), but the below average quality of meat and the totally overpowering worcestershire sauce gravy made the dish inedible(it was sent back). Not willing to risk $ 70(with tax and tip) to give this restaurant another chance.
