Dear Via Delizia, next time you see someone in your waiting area, please assume that they are actually there to eat, and please greet them. It’s ok, they won’t mind not having to sit and wait for you to approach them. But if you don’t and they approach you first, please know that they are not there to bother you, they simply want to know if there is a wait time. Don’t look at them like they owe you something. So it’s at least a twenty minute wait? It’s ok, it’s nobody’s fault, they would just like to know ahead of time, so they can decide on what to do with the next half hour of their lives. It’s ok to give people that option. Tough life out there…

Delicious. Spendy for the family, like my neighborhood is, but very yummy. Lovely people too.

Gelato was the reason for our visit — and it was disappointing. Three of us tried different flavors and they were pretty good. But when we got our orders and were a few spoons in, we found that it had the freezer-burn-«plasticky» taste and had a hard texture. Service is good. Haven’t tried they’re coffee or menus items, but the gelato was the worst we’ve ever had.

I had the Black Pearl Benedict with two poached eggs, tyropita, sautéed vegetables and balsamic crème. This was, quite honestly, one of the most incentive and delicious breakfasts I’ve had in a very long time. Full of flavor and definitely not your run-of-the mill egg dish. I will come back here next time I’m in Portland and most likely order the same thing!!!

My husband and I have been here for both breakfast and dinner and the food was amazing at each meal! Love the outdoor eating area too. Great spot in the Pearl!

Though all my diet would allow today was for a quick Americano I of course lived the coffee but was then buy the owners demeanor and the smell and look of the pastries. I’ll have to return when my intake will permit me to enjoy all they offer along withheld great service!

We came in here for gelato. 5 adults and 5 kids. Sat down had our drinks and gelato. We were just told by the owner to take our children to the park. That this wasn’t a place for children. Wow! A gelato place where kids are not welcome! Too bad we had already bought our gelato! Try cool moon ice cream instead. They are just a block away. Not coming back.

Excellent restaurant and service. We stumbled in this quaint restaurant a year ago and have always enjoyed our time. The food is delicious, the fake olive tree is a hoot, and the vibe has always been relaxed. Our server, Rolf is fabulous — he’s always been pleasant and kind. ~S.

This is a great place to stop for a reasonably priced glass of wine and a salad after a Mazamas City Ramble. Love the employees. They are so friendly and nice. Give it a try.

We have been coming to this place for about half a year every week and many of our family members have been coming for a year. Food was great and service was good as well. Until today took my kids and wife out for sunday lunch and a red head tall male waiter took 15 min to give us menues, another 10 min or so to take our order, and a whole hour and 10 min to bring out our food. Many people came and ate as we sat and waited. He passed our table multiple times and didnt once assure us our food is coming or is almost ready. Upon asking were our food is, he replied its being made. Then said another 4 min and we waited another 10!!! So rude and unprofesional! When FINALLY receiving our food which was a plate of pasta and a salad with chicken. Chicken and pasta were cold!!! Idk if they forgot about it which seems unlikely he passed our table many times, or they simply dont have manners and dont know how to serve their constant guests. And to add it didnt stop there my wife asked for bread for her salad and waiter was just standing around then brought bread when she was finished!!! No apologies what so ever… never again are we coming there. Customer service ruined it for us!

My wife, toddler, and I have been to this neighborhood café no less than 10 times. In fact, we have taken family to the place on multiple occasions. It is a shame, given that the meals and desserts have been quite good in the past, that today’s horrible service caused us to get up and leave when our food finally arrived 60 minutes after we were seated. A waitress we had never seen there before took our drink order quickly, but my wife’s simple brewed coffee hadn’t even arrived until she finally took our meal order at least 15 minutes after being seated. We also had to tell her that they do have a kid’s menu when she told us flatly that they did not. They were sitting on a shelf about 3 feet from us together with cups full of crayons for kids. After bringing up the missing coffee, it took another 10 minutes just to get that. 50 minutes after being seated, we asked another waitress to make sure our order had actually been placed with the kitchen. She said it would be another 2 minutes. When it finally arrived 10 minutes later, one of the three lunches was the wrong item. When we told the second waitress this mistake, the initial waitress arrived only to make excuses(specifically that they had been swamped with business). By that time, we had been there 60 minutes and the business, including outdoor seating, had not once been even half full. Not once during this hour wait did our waitress come to fill our long empty coffees or apologize for the incredibly delayed service. Despite living just a block away, we will never come back! We told the normally attentive owner the same on our way out without eating a bite. Our replacement lunch at Bridgeport just down the road was good as usual, with prompt and polite service. 2 stars only because prior experiences were mostly positive. Less than 1 star for today.

Creative twists on Italian classics. Think Chicken Milanese with a chocolate balsamic reduction. Bolognese made with bacon and caramelized onions. Portion sizes are big, I usually need a to-go box and I eat A LOT. I haven’t tried their gelato due to my dairy allergy, but they have about 20 flavors and it makes me salivate every time I walk in. What a tease. Only had one pastry, which was a cinnamon roll and it was BOMB. The vibe here is definitely quaint and local(is that a vibe?). Service here has always been fast and friendly. Great date spot if you want reliable food at a reasonable price and an atmosphere on the quiet side. Also a great spot to sit at the sidewalk tables if it’s nice out.

Really delicious breakfast, had the black pearl Benedict, so yummy. The vanilla latte was great too and he decorated it with a heart and cinnamon.

First time. Out of towner. I would recommend. The bruschetta was really good — I could have made it my meal. My pasta dish was very tasty but after all the bruschetta I ate… Service was very good and friendly. It is a small venue but comfortable. If you are in the Pearl District it is worth a stop. I plan on a return visit and would not hesitate to take friends.

I stumbled on this pearl of a place in the Pearl one day out walking. Brought my wife back for coffee and dessert and then dinner. Dinner tonight — Pasta Alfredo and Diabolo Rustico — were perfectly cooked. Just the right portion of sauce. Obviously, carefully prepared. The waiter was a really nice guy who actually seemed glad to see us. Outside were hold lights of Tanner Springs Park. This certainly can’t be a best kept secret, but if you like an atmospheric place with nice music that is on the quiet side(you can actually talk), then this is your place. A great find.

A slice of italy in the Pearl district… headed over there for brunch last weekend, got the Vienna Wagon Della Cassa(sort of a meat scramble topped with eggs) which was delicious, and a cappucino which had the most interesting presentation ever, and was stellar to boot… They have a full gelato bar which I didn’t have room left to try, so will be back!

Was in Portland to see a music festival and happened upon this place near my hotel in the North Pearl District. We stopped in twice, the second time because we had such a good experience the first time. The coffee is really good. If you like coffee with a personality, this is the place for you. Breakfast was top notch, I enjoyed the scrambles and the eggs Benedict that I ordered in my two visits. Service is prompt and pleasant. I have already recommended this place to my friends and will return again on my next visit to Portland.

This place does a little more than be a cool Pearl walk by joint. I have to try the Gelato some other time, but the chicken bacon club Panini was awesome, and I particularly like the presentation of salad centered to the sandwich and not a side after thought. The indoor ambience is refreshingly Italian courtyard style. Via Delizia!

Tried a new place the other today. The interior design was very cute, a giant fake tree the in the middle of the café. I had the Shrimp Pasta although on the menu it was titled in Italian. Gotta say it wasn’t terrible but I would have put a little more zest in the sauce. The pasta had zucchini, shrimp, and it was dusted with chopped up almonds. Also tried the gelato and cookies for dessert which was probably my favorite part. They have a variety of choices for gelato which I believe change once in a while. The waiter was great and even the owner came and asked us how our meals were going.

Via Delizia, located in the Pearl District is a shining gem in the treasure box of Portland. It stands by itself as a Gelateria, with tasty Italian treats just begging to be eaten both by your eyes and your mouth from inside their display case. Not to mention the giant yet breath-taking faux olive tree, adorned with rustic hanging lights. The setting is that of a fine dining establishment with the choice between being slightly casual to formal, from happy hour where one can order a panini to lamb«pitza»(base of pita bread) with a nice ale or just a simple scoop of that famous Italian treat. The service is very obliging, if feeling social you can strike up a courteous conversation with the owner of the establishment who I truly believe takes pride in providing the service you are looking for and strives to get to know his clientele. Now, onto the fare; since it was happy hour I ordered a nice dark ale and decided upon the chicken pitza with keeping it simple with chicken, fresh basil, roasted red peppers, marinara, mozzarella and a pinch of Italian spice. For dessert, the gelato sundae with two scoops for $ 5; that was a lot of gelato! Amaretto and a coffee flavor with a nice crunch sided with a complementary cup of Italian coffee, a nice addition to curb the smooth iciness in order to refresh(warm) the palate before taking another decadent morsel — great for dipping the gelato in, affogato style.
