Unsprung

I can’t recommend Unsprung Salon and Alysia enough! I’ve gotten a keratin type treatment from a few other salons because I moved away from Portland, but none have been as good as Unsprung! Her location is a bit of a drive away from the downtown Portland area but it is worth it! She knows what she is doing when it comes to hair straightening. My hair usually stays very curl and frizz free for at least three months after going to Alysia, and although the curl does start to come back eventually it stays frizz free for like five months. When I didn’t live in Porltand I got a brazillian blowout from a salon that not only cost more than Alysia but was barely effective. All in all Unsprung offers amazing quality hair straightening treatments at a very reasonable price. I will definitely re-​visit her salon whenever I find myself back in Portland.

Alysia is amazing! I have been going to her for more than 6 years now, and never have I been disappointed.
She takes all the time you need to reach the results you want. This being said from the woman with crazy out of control, ugly curls, who now have beautiful, smooth straight hair that requires nothing more than a little blow dry to look perfect.
The shop is warm and inviting, and she goes out of her way to make sure you are comfortable.
The straightening process can be a bit ‘smelly’, but she always has a fan going and you have a mask available for you to use.
I can’t say enough good things about her!

I went to her after seeing all these 5-​star reviews but was disappointed. Her place is really small and dark, which doesn’t really matter but what got to me were the fumes. It made me nauseous. And she just kept talking on and on (except when she had the mask on) which didn’t help with the nausea. Afterwards, I followed ALL of her instructions and even got the proper shampoo but the results were not good at all. It was still frizzy and curly.
But there were some good points: She is very nice. She is very knowledgeable. My hair wasn’t damaged. It was easier to straighten my hair with hot iron at home (kind of defeated purpose of the straightening process…).
I’ve had my hair done before by someone else and it had actually lasted a couple of months and looked good! So I know it can be done. I just haven’t found someone to do it in Portland yet. So my search still continues…

LOVE Alysia! If you have considered having a keratin treatment, look no further! My hair has been transformed from a scary, crazy, frizzy mess (think finger in a light socket…) to beautiful, straight, bouncy hair. It has even retained all of its natural body! I was nervous, but it was the best investment that I have ever made, and will continue to make!

You are literally out of your mind not to get your hair straightened here. Her prices are amazing but it’s her knowledge thats off the chart. She has tried every brand of keratin out there, knows all the complications that can occur and can answer every question you have and does a fantastic job. My mother, daughter and friend all have their hair done here. Her space may seem unique (workspace building in SE) but the girl knows how to do hair. I almost hate posting this here because she’s getting harder to get into, but I wanted to spread the good karma. Alysia rocks.

If you want a permanent or semi-​permanent straightening treatment, this is the place to go. The woman who runs this business was an honors chemistry major and she really knows what she’s doing (although it is a little unnerving having someone that smart analyzing dinky hair problems). Moreover she takes the chemical exposure issues more seriously than I’ve ever seen – she wears a ventilator and offers you one, too.
She gave me a keratin treatment aka Brazilian blow-​out and it lasted so much longer than the other one I had at another salon.
