Found this place to have a great sushi happy hour that tastes good! The people who work there are fast, efficient and really nice. Fair prices and quick service!

There are a lot of Korean-owned sushi places. Mostly because people have some idea of Japanese food, but not as much with Korean food. As more people get acquainted with Korean food, demand goes up. Since we were in Portland, we were looking around for some food, and we saw the sushi place with Korean food as well. My husband ordered sushi, while I ordered from the Korean menu. I ordered the daeji bulgogi(spicy pork) bento box. The food was pretty good. I noticed that Portland serves up much bigger portion sizes than in California, so this is good bang for the buck. I ended up having another meal for lunch. If I were in the area again, I would definitely return.

I stumbled upon this place while on a work trip and was so glad that I did. The food and service were both excellent! I didn’t try the sushi, however I sat where I could see it being made. It looked beautiful and very fresh.

Not a bad spot for quick eat. Service is fast and food is fresh. I have only ordered the bento box here and it is delicious!

This place is straight up gross. I couldn’t even finish my lunch. There are waaay better restaurants to check out in this area. This is not a place you want to go. The bulgogi was doused in too much sauce. The sauce was too sweet and didn’t taste fresh. The small sides that it comes with including kimchi tasted like it all came out of a can or something. Not fresh at all! The miso was the best thing I had. Won’t be back.

I was initially suspicious of a restaurant that labels itself both Japanese and Korean. But the food was excellently prepared. I stopped in for lunch and had the unagi(eel) don bento, containing eel, tempura, California roll, salad, and miso soup. The tempura was perfect. The eel was very flavorful. And from the time I walked into the restaurant, I could smell the sushi rice. The food was great! Now, the downsides: the flavor of the tempura sauce and eel sauce did not go well together. And the restaurant, while well furnished, is in a questionable neighborhood in a questionable building. When I was there, two homeless men came in, begging for food and ended up in a shouting match with the restaurant owner. That was uncomfortable. That said, if I’m in the area and want East Asian food, I will return.

The total review said 3.5 stars… I suppose that’s correct for the area. Poki salad was all avocado and cucumber… Tuna had been frozen and thawed. Pink lady(cucumber wrapped roll) had cucumber about 3/8−1:4″ wide in some spots. The fish fell right out. If you’re new to sushi and want something simple, this is your spot. I did eat all the cucumbers = healthy and can’t go wrong with that. The staff was super friendly too.

Umi is a tasty sushi/korean food joint. While the korean soups are tasty and the sushi fresh stay away from the teriyaki as it tends to be a bit dry. I have the unagi every time and also various rolls. If you are in the area pop in and try unagi, snapper and tuna nigiri. I have had the Bento box but it is not their best dish. I visit Umi at least once per week.

My dad and I just stopped by because we didn’t know anywhere else to go, so we just decided to pop in since we noticed it was under new management & its a new Korean Cuisine/Japanese. There food was amazing! The Dol sot bibimbap was amazing & same goes with their bentos + soft shell crab! Also came with a lot of food. Very very well priced & very nice Korean older men and waittres, very recommended from a Korean Portlander

Excellent quality of sushi was served. My husband and I ordered beef rib teriyaki and spicy tofu soup. It was great taste and reasonable price. Staff was friendly. I enjoyed nice and quiet atmosphere. I like to go back and try bento menu and hot pot bibimbob next time.

Apparently they have new owners. The place was filthy dirty, menu changed, no revolving sushi belt(during peek lunch hour), no more self serve pickled ginger or wasabi. My crab salad was not cold and fresh and my teriyaki chicken tasted like cat food. Hope they catch a glue soon. Umi Sushi was my favorite place for years.

As a sushi lover, fellow sushi lovers understand: there is good sushi and then there is amazing sushi. This place just took the prize for amazing. A friend recommended me to this place and I brushed it off because when I tried it a couple years ago, it was okay. However, it’s new owners so I thought I’d give them a chance. After trying their sashimi, I’m glad I did. The owner/chef was at the sushi bar when I came in and we ended up chatting about his place. He got rid of the conveyer belt sushi and put in a sushi bar, he has plans on updating the menu, adding a happy hour option, and renovating the interior. We’ll have wait and see. Maybe he’s out to impress new faces or maybe I got lucky but I’ll definitely be back.

Since the new owners took over in October 2014, the food has been amazing! Great portion sizes and food, especially for the pricing. The owners are super nice and personable. They recently expanded their menu to include Korean food and it is delicious and again, a good value. I personally enjoy the sushi the most because they have great cuts and flavor. Highly recommend you giving this little place a shot!

Food was scrumptious… the service was«okay». I had to go search for a sauce tray for my wasabi and soy concoction. Also could not get the waiters attention… otherwise a good experience.

I was on a business trip to Portland and this restaurant was conveniently located next to my hotel. The staff was very friendly and after the first visit the people there knew my name. The food was delicious as the fish very fresh. I’ve had the beef, and chicken bento boxes and a few of the rolls. Everything was reasonably priced for the amount and quality of their dishes. I would definitely recommend this place.

A great little restaurant with some amazing deals, especially the Bento Boxes. I had the Chicken Teriyaki Bento(see attached video for a demonstration of the size) and not only was it huge, but it was full of variety and tasty items. For less than $ 8(dinner portion), this was one of the best deals for a sit-down dinner I’ve had since arriving in Portland. The place itself is small, but I like to think of it as «intimate». It is by no means a hole in a wall, nor is it a dive. This little place does have some charm and manages to pack in a full bar, a sushi bar with sushi platter conveyor belt, and a sit down area with flat screen TVs. The place is clean inside and has a comfy, warm feel. We didn’t try the sushi, but the a la carte sushi was also priced very modestly, and it looked like the size of the portions were rather large. I would recommend this place if you are in the area. You’ll eat large amounts and spend very little, all with smiling service. I will come again.

Umi is Lloyd districts best kept sushi secret. I’m going to keep this review short and sweet. The sushi is oh so good. Simple, well executed and most importantly FRESH. Miso is tasty too. The service was diligent, kind and out of your way so you can enjoy your meal. I really adore this place. It has never let me down. In comparison to the other sushi places down Broadway Umi really stands out as a winner. It doesn’t need to advertise is though, or do anything flashy to let it be known. Simply walk in, get seated and enjoy. I will see you soon Umi!

Lunch in the Lloyd area is competitive. Umi is an everything to everyone alternative. Yes they have conveyor sushi, ramen and bento. I’m on a bibimbap jag now, so I decided to try Umi’s. A great option is brown rice. Also unique is their take on the egg ingredient. It’s scrambled egg, cooked like a crêpe — thin and flat then julienned or run through a food processor to make a curly pile. The shredded carrots were lightly cooked. The dish is served in a flat bottomed lacquerware bowl, about the right portion size, not a gut bomb. My standard is Kim Jong Grillin’ and I’m awaiting his new brick and mortar. The ramen lunch special with Korean hot spice uses those crinkly noodles, undistinguished. This is not Kim Jong, but it’s a satisfying and somewhat healthy lunch option in the Lloyd district.

As part of my recent foray into the low priced world of Broadway sushi, I want to report that I really enjoyed Umi Sushi. Inexpensive, good service, cute décor, easy parking, no wait. I had about 1,000 vegetarian rolls for $ 15, and I loved my attentive friendly waitress, who smiled a lot, and who kept me stocked with ice cold water on one of the hottest days of the year, until I was no longer hot and no longer thirsty.
