Love Tiffin Asha! Your dosas are hands-down some of the best my Indian husband and I have had in the US, and dare I say, India! Not just the fun flavors you come up with, but also the perfect balance of crunchiness and fullness of the batter. I also really like it that you cook with local organic ingredients when possible and I do think the difference can be tasted. My favorite are the egg dosas and I love dipping them in gunpowder soaked in ghee. The little stickers explaining what to do with the ghee were a welcome detail ;-)!

First time here, had a brunch gun powder dosa DELICIOUS! Just the right size for a quick snack on the go.

My only complaint about this place is that it’s not open more often! I craaaaave these dosas for days sometimes, watching the clock and counting down the hours until they open again. The breakfast dosas are to die for and the gun powders and chutneys pack some serious flavor. At first you think you might need more, but it actually works out to be the perfect amount every time. I love that everything on the menu is gluten free — even the savory donuts! Highly recommended! I’m at this place at least once a week.

This place clearly took us by surprise. The paper dosa was perfect crispy and chicken dosa was to die for. Idli was feathery soft and clearly the best i have eaten out of my home place– south India. I would certainly visit this place again…

Soooo tasty! Whole menu is gluten free and I can’t wait to try everything. I had a chicken filled dosa and it was huge and delicious. The chutneys are really yummy and the owners are incredibly nice. I will be back soon.

Phenomenally executed South Indian Cuisine, well adapted for western palates. The dosa was not the slightest bit greasy, the vada holes were divine, and the lovely couple that runs the truck are super nice. This is a must see food truck in Portland.

Tiffin Asha is a gem amongst some otherwise questionable development on Mississippi. Wonderful dosas with choices of fillings, and an amazing chutney selection for a food cart. Streamlined simple aesthetic, clean and tasty. Not to mention the owner is super friendly and will remember your face, so don’t be afraid to introduce yourself! I personally enjoy the hot chick with cilantro chutney. Fresh, interesting cuisine from a rad, friendly staff – 5 stars

Dosas, vadas, idlis… The cart for the ultimate south Indian snack… Their paper dosa is fairly large and nice and crispy… If only the smallest suggestion, I would suggest adding a little pinch of more salt… The Sambhar… Now that is what truly stands out. The taste is perfect and the veggies for texture perfectly compliment it. Sambhar comes with most dosas, idlis vadas. They have gun powder(spice powder I assume), which is delectable. Only gripe is that the container for the powder, chutneys is fairly small and hard for the soup spoon to get in. Service has always been with a smile and I for one will continue to come here… Even if it means driving 15 miles

We had hot chicks and studly spud! great flavor for great price. Studly spud was more classic south indian, hot chicks chicken was well flavored and moist. The dosa is fun, crisp and tasty, fun dipping in the various chutneys. will come again!

There are Indian eateries in Portland, and then there are Indian eateries! This is the latter! To summarize what’s on the menu, I just have to mention 3 Indian dishes. Dosa, Idli and Vada! You get about 4 – 5 different versions of dosas, ranging from egg, chicken, potato(masala), mushroom and just plain. All of them cooked to perfection! I hate idlis. Hate them. I don’t even eat the idlis my mom makes! Not in this place though. My wife ordered idlis, I took a bite and they were spiffing! I can’t put my finger and say why, but they were awesome! The vadas are vada holes, inspired by donut holes, and they’re the best I’ve had in a long time! Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and you can’t stop eating them! The best part though, is their sambar and gun powder. The most authentic sambar I’ve had since I left India. It gives my mom’s sambar, which is out of the world by the way, a decent run for its money! Will I come back here? Hell yeah! Am I going to rave to the point of overselling this place to my friends, abso-bloody-lutely! Should you go here if you want some authentic south Indian food in the Portland area, please do! And you won’t regret it!

Good dosa and vada! It was pretty windy and cold today. The owner turned on the outdoor heater for us :-). Good food and good customer service. Stopped by on our way back to Seattle from the Redwoods.

Had heard many great things about this cart so I decided to give them a shot. I tried the Hot Chick which was really tasty… The fried chicken was seasoned nice and crispy and the cheese and veggies were a perfect companion. Also came with a seasoning blend called«Gun Powder» which was a really flavorful and fun addition to the plate. I’ll be back!

Portland has an awesome food culture and myriad of international cuisines that taste almost 100% authentic be it thai, vietnamese, lebanese etc. The biggest gap in terms of authenticity that I found is in south indian cuisine, chettinadu cuisine and Kerala style food. When I say south indian, I mean the classic tiffin items like dosa, idli and vadai. Tiffin Asha is a jewel on the crown where I can satisfy my cravings for the tiffin items. The dosa was so good that I was blown away. The sambar was very very similar to something my mom would make. The different types of chutneys was really good. Too many superlatives but the review needs it. The food is not expensive which is a plus too. The variations in the menu like th hot chick dosa and the studly spud are a must try. I never knew you could combine fried chicken, cream and dosa in a way that Tiffin Asha pulled off. Overall a must try for south indian tiffin food and dont forget the sambar(its extra with the dosa).

Tried this place last weekend when I visited Portland. I tried the Tiffin trilogy. The crispy paper dosa was by far the best that I have had in Oregon. The sambar it comes with was also really good. The idlis were soft and nice with the small chatnis that they offer. I was never really a big fan of gun powder but what they offered was pretty good. Special mention to the vada holes. Being from South India, this is one of my favorite snack(usually looks like a doughnut back in India). These just reminded me of home. They were really very good :)

Has been on my radar for quite some time, and finally last weekend got to try it out. It was an extremely blustery day and I was skeptical about how good of an idea it would be to try a food cart, but I guess I’ve procrastinated enough! Totally worth going there though, i got the Hot chick dosa, and my friend got the Tiffin Trilogy. And boy was it good! I never knew that crispy fried chicken, yogurt based paste and greens would go so well with dosas, definitely a deviation from the usual potatoes(which they have as well). The gunpowder is extremely tasty as are the chutneys. The idli and vadas are super fresh and very tasty as is the sambhar. Man, if this cart was on my way to work, I’d stop here for breakfast everyday!

For the most part, they do a good job with South Indian Definitely get the dosas here, the swirl pattern looks almost like concentric circles. The idli is pretty legit too, the shape is not what I’m used to at other places where I had these things. The spiciest gun powder was not really spicy at all, but I can understand since the general demographic of Portland is not spice crazed.

Loved this idea of Dosa in a food cart! Back in India getting Dosas, vada and idlis in food cart is common and it is a healthy fast food. Tiffin Asha is a beautiful food cart. Loved the feel of this cart. Though, there is more place to sit. We ordered Trilogy(just for $ 8, totally worth it) and Suply stud(dosa with potato fillings for $ 6). Dosa was ghee roasted and served hot with sambhar and your choice of podi(gunpowder). There is a chutney bar where you can get variety of chutneys. Vada were served like hush puppies, small round balls, crispy and hot! Idlis were very soft and spongy. I highly recommend this place for dosa lovers or for those who want to try these tasty rice and lentil crepes. This is the best dosa in town! I will give it a 4.5 stars.
