My boyfriend and I went here on a Sunday morning. The place is tiny and not great for big parties. The place can get packed quick. I ordered the sausage and peppers sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the french toast sandwich. It took about 20 minutes for our food to be done. We left with our food and ate it at home instead. The sausage and peppers sandwich was good, but ciabatta heart roll was a little hard to eat. The texture of it was chewy and didn’t make the sandwich enjoyable. I liked what was in the sandwich, but not what was holding it together. My boyfriend thought the french toast sandwich was too sweet and hoping it would’ve been more on the savory side because of the ham in it. I don’t think we’re coming back. It didn’t wow us.

If this review was based exclusively on the taste and quality of the food, I would give it 5 stars. I had the sausage & peppers sandwich and it was exactly what I had hoped. Full of flavor, the egg was perfectly over-medium as advertised, and the ciabatta roll was soft and not too chewy. The sandwich wasn’t dry at all, in fact the balsamic aioli was served generously which really made the flavor exceptional. Cleary, these people know what they’re doing in the kitchen and I’m thrilled for them that they’ve gone from a food truck to storefront. Speaking of the storefront, the place is adorable. I enjoyed the window seat and people watching on Alberta. There were plenty of other tables, some of which could accommodate larger groups. The place felt clean, the bathroom was nice(yay for Oregon Soap Company!), and the service very friendly. A few things that left me disappointed. That awesome aioli I mentioned? It’s messy. I’m not complaining about the mess per se, but please oh please can you offer some decent napkins? Those paper thin things do almost nothing before falling apart. We’re eating with our hands, help us out! I would have loved a knife to cut my sandwich in half but there were none to be had. Also, some varieties of hot sauce and maybe other condiments would be welcomed. The wait wasn’t terrible but it was just long enough for me to notice. I think there were 2 orders in front of mine and I probably waited 20 minutes. I had the time but I think this turns a lot of people off looking for a quick bite on their work break. Also, it makes one hesitate to ask for things(hot sauce, a knife) as we assume such interruptions would slow you down. They have wi-fi and choose not to share it with patrons. Changing that would be a welcome gesture as far as I’m concerned. Lastly, I was freezing and kept my coat on the whole time! Don’t forget the dining area may be much cooler than the kitchen. I’ll be back and keeping my fingers crossed for better napkins ;)

Went here recently with family for a breakfast before heading out to an all day Hood River trip. People here bitch about the wait, and the small space… have any of you been to a restaurant in Portland for breakfast? This place is frickin’ busy and packed all the time. What do you expect? The 2 – 3 people in the back are cranking out the food as fast as they can, and they’re working non-stop due to the sheer volume of orders they receive. You’re going to wait. Fact. Yes, the space is small, but you can get it to go if you’d rather not wait for a seat. Food is deliciously mouth watering(just as it was when it was still a food cart), and worth the wait. Actually, now that I think about it, the wait time is about the same as it was when it was a food cart on Mississippi. Service is good, and I like the décor of their new space. They could definitely have a larger dining area, but hey, you gotta start small sometimes. Look at Jam… they were tiny, and now they’ve almost tripled in size.

This place is a bit overrated. Supply and demand shouldn’t be used in the the food business. You can’t sell out of items on your menu. I wanted to try this place out an traveled from DT Portland only to get here and have almost everything not available anymore. I still ordered a sandwich. Waited 30 minutes and was mediocre.

Do we really need a place that only does egg sandwiches for $ 9? Probably not but if you going to have a place doing just that, they do it pretty darn well here. TL:DR review– hipster place with slower service, limited menu and higher prices. Pros-large portions, very tasty egg sandwiches, space to eat. Negatives-very short hours, closed a couple of day, can be long wait times for such simple food. They have wi-fi but wouldn’t let customers use it. Tip-go during the week and the wait is much shorter. Don’t get it to go as it’s best when it’s just made. I waited only 15 minutes. Also the people listening is so Portland.

Like many others have said, the food here is pretty delicious. I love the PDX Sandwich with bacon, but the Sausage & Peppers is good too. However, I haven’t tried any of their rotating seasonal sandwiches because(like many others have ALSO said) the wait times here are crazy. It’s never taken fewer than 30 minutes for me to get my sandwich and I have a hard time believing that this sort of wait for an egg sandwich is reasonable or worth it. Sorry folks! Figure out your kitchen situation, because it really is ridiculous ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Meh. Decent food but S. L. O. W. And a bit expensive for what you get. For for the food to take that long and cost that much you need some sort of table service and freaking cocktails to pass the time. I suggest skipping The Big Egg and heading to one of the other 15 places within a mile to get cheap, quick and inexpensive food.

Best breakfast in Portland! Always friendly, always delicious, always busy. Yes, you have to wait, but making quality food with love takes time.

So while the food is good, it took 30+ minutes to get our breakfast and the were not that busy? And I oredered the breakfast wrap and paid extra for the ham, and my wrap only had 2 little nuggets of dry ham… not sure I’ll be coming back.

Bright clean little place with friendly staff. The coffee was good. I had the PDX sandwich which came out quickly. The egg was perfectly content cooked with just the right amount of golden ooze. The brioche was perfectly toasted. All in all a great breakfast sandwich. I’ll definitely come back. Next time I’ll get the Portobello Sandwich. I got to try a bite if it and it was amazing.

It hurts me to rate The Big Egg anything other than 5 stars but it’s for a VERY good reason. I discovered upon my last trip to The Big Egg, in their new brick and mortar location, that they are no longer putting potatoes in their wraps!!! BOOOOO!!! The potatoes added that extra bit of texture and flavor and just goodness! The eggs are so lonely without the potatoes. Makes me so sad. Please bring the potatoes back in the wraps so I can worship you once again! Please please please. :)

Great little breakfast place in the Alberta Arts District … The PDX is a delicious and burst of good flavor a! Not your typical egg ham sandwich! Clean and st staff are nice. Local feel!

Is no reason why this place is stuck at 3 ½ stars. This is a five-star sandwich all day. Small menu, yes. So freaking delicious? Oh my god yes! Eat here. Don’t be a dumbass

Apparently, they are now in a larger building. When I last came here(May 2014), they were on Mississippi and the wait for our meal was a minimum of 30 minutes. I had the Sausage and Peppers Egg sandwich and it was really good, and super juicy.

Food is great but they need to get it together in terms of service if they’re going to survive as a brick and mortar. We waiting 40 minutes for our food with only 3 or 4 orders ahead of ours, none of which were huge or anything. Granted, they warned us about the wait ahead of time, but it still made no sense given how many people were working and the size/complexity of the menu. I shouldn’t be able to crank out food at the same rate as a kitchen.

Let me preface this with the fact that this is my FAVORITE breakfast spot in Portland. Their food is phenomenal, the space is comfortable & cute, and the staff is friendly. That being said, get it together, guys! We sat waiting for our food for 35 – 40 min on a Saturday morning and counted ELEVEN customers that came in & decided to leave because of the wait. And that was just during the time we were sitting there. Money left on the table and would-be customers that won’t be returning. I love this place, I love the food, and I want them to be successful. Figure it out in the back, though — You have seven menu items. There are too many brunch places in town for there to be error like this. We’ll continue to go religiously because, obviously. I’ll update my review once the wait time goes down! I’m rooting for you!

I used to go to The Big Egg’s Mississippi food cart and wait sometimes up to an hour for their delicious breakfast sandwiches. We’d make a morning of it and sit and chat over coffee in anticipation of their carefully crafted and perfectly cooked egg creations. Now that it’s a brick and mortar(rip sugar cube), it’s amazing how quickly you can get a sandwich made! And it’s a charming location with a door, a roof, chairs, tables, even a bathroom! It’s come a long way since it’s food cart days. The hours are still limited, so be sure to check those before visiting. But the quality of sandwich is just as good, if not better. I do miss eating out of a box, rather than on a plate, but some things we’ll have to get used to. I also miss the names of the sandwiches which have been changed to more generic ones(e.g. The Arbor Lodge is now the portobello sandwich). All in all 5 stars. Can’t wait to go back.

The owners are amazing. So happy that they’ve worked their little butts off to get their own brick and mortar. They care so much about their product and you can taste it! I’m usually a breakfast wrap girl, but the seasonal sandwiches are always tempting. There’s no such thing in my mind as too long of a wait for this kind of deliciousness.(Also, so excited for them to get a liquor license so I can just hang out here drinking mimosas all day… It’s that great.)

THEBIGEGG!!! My favorite place in town, hands down! I’m so excited they have grown into a beautiful yellow brick and mortar! With some of the friendliest faces and most delicious burritos, I wake up daily dreaming of a Big Egg breakfast! My only«gripe»? Never being able to decide what to get. The burrito? The french toast sandwich? The Arbor??? What’s a girl with only one stomach to do? I love this place and you will too! Treat yo’ self– to The Big Egg!

Writing this breaks my heart! A few years ago, when we first discovered The Big Egg in their cart by Prost, we were diehard fans. Many a Saturday morning would start by getting there before they even opened! Now if you were one of the unlucky souls to arrive five minutes after they opened you were out of luck, unless you had nothing else to do all morning but wait on a burrito… Fast forward to a few months ago. The sugar cube closes(R.I.P.), but wait! They painted it yellow? THEBIGEGG is moving in two blocks from my house !!! My lady wandered in the morning of the soft opening. Her report? A breakfast burrito with bacon is $ 8.75, and the chile sauce isn’t what it used to be. Also, the burritos are way too small. For $ 5 it was one thing, but for almost $ 10 with a tip, it’s a joke. I attempted to go on Sunday, only to turn away when I asked a couple who had just ordered and stepped outside how long to expect to wait and they said, sadly… at least 45 min?! I thought this was the whole point of moving into a brick and mortar! I could literally go to new seasons, shop, go home and cook breakfast in less than 45 minutes. I’m sorry, The Big Egg, I want nothing more than to give you five stars. I used to ramble on and on to anyone who would listen about how you had the best breakfast in town. But that was when a burrito was $ 5, and I could eat one in less than an hour. You’re on Alberta, surrounded by plentiful, delicious, and affordable food. I hope you get the same hint that Stella Taco did soon after opening and make some changes. They listened to their feedback, and got so much better as a result! Your value is way off, and the wait is absurd. With only 20 minutes to spare and $ 7 in my pocket, there are a lot of better choices within two blocks, nevermind a mile. Ugh.
