Hefty prices but it’s worth it. It wasn’t incredibly crowded, so it was easy for the bartender to be attentive but he kindly spent time explaining the different ingredients and talking about little things like their storage process for vermouth. He was never pushy for us to buy more drinks but was always willing to stop and answer our questions. I love specialty cocktails so finding this place was a dream come true. It’s a perfect«fancy» and contemporary spot for a night out.

This is an excellent cocktail bar that is always on our short list to show friends when visiting from out of town. The bar is more upscale with a dimly lit room and a quieter background. Movies are often(silently) playing on a projector high up on the walls for a change of pace. The cocktail menu really sets this place apart, with over 20 selections of uniquely designed drinks of all liquor types. A particular strength of the menu is a column of selections that have been crafted at other cocktail bars throughout the country(NYC, Chicago, Seattle, San Diego etc) which rotates throughout the year to offer ever-changing options. Another strength is that the menu has a glossary of terms that describe all of the esoteric but tasty ingredients in the drinks. Service is always top notch and the drinks are served in many different and cool glasses. The only reason I would not give 5 stars is because the food items are a little lackluster(limited options and pretty small portions — though all items tried have been tasty), so it is not the best spot for combining drinks with appetizers or a light meal. Still, we love this place and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a quality craft cocktail.

Fancy.Pants. I didn’t recognize most of the ingredients on the menu but they sure do put a lot of time and effort in to each cocktail. I had the Oatmeal Cookie which was oddly enough, made with Jaegermeister and still plenty tasty. The vibe was chill, not too packed and service was efficient. Beer list is weak but I didn’t expect much for a cocktail bar. Would try again.

Love this place. We tried different cocktails and enjoyed all of them. The bartenders are very friendly and can customized the drinks. Our bartender made this drink called Island hooper that was amazing. It tasted so refreshing that I really do feel like I’m vacationing. I highly recommend this place!

Teardrop is actually one of the first bar’s my friends and I visited during our PDX visit. All of us really enjoyed this spot. The bartenders is very chill and they were really initiative on helping us choosing a right drink. I was able to try a few good whiskeys and our bartender made sure we were all satisfied with our drinks and also made sure we understood what we were drinking. Their ice that they use for their old fashioned is also a plus. If you’re around the area then you must stop by here. Good drinks, cool bartenders, dope atmosphere. What more can you ask for? Conclusion: I would highly recommend this spot for anyone who’s living in PDX or visiting!

When visiting the Pearl district, this is a solid choice. With bartenders like these guys, you can easily just throw at them what you feel like. In my case I was wanting a drink with St Germain and poof he had the drink in front of me in no time at all. Now, I don’t usually say that unless I know the bartenders can handle being put on the spot. These guys not only have no issues with such a move but seem to enjoy doing that. Vibe– comfortable, hip and well un-lit and the music, at least when I was there, was like Classic Soul dance cuts with a video of Shaft on the screen. I would have liked to see footage that was more contrasting on the screen, but that’s just me and my picky bad self. So, don’t be afraid to walk in, smile at the bartender and say, «I feel like(insert liquor choice)» and let the magic begin. oh and by all means, definitely bring your out of town guest and if you’re visiting, I apologize for all the fleece. Remember~Please Don’t Drink And Play Guitar.

It’s so easy to find a cheap drink in town. But when you’re lookin’ for somewhere real fancy-like — seriously, this place is very much un-Portland inside — Teardrop is the place to be. Despite coming in on a Friday nite we luck out on the cozy corner seat perfect for 6. The service was awesome. The beverage menu listed an impressive selection of cocktails, but they’ll make anything you request. PLUS our server hinted that there are even more drinks on their secret menu. ooOOOooOh. Maybe the LA-ish vibe is a turn-off for some, and it is pretty loud in there, we had a nice time and will probably be back.

This is a great Pearl District date spot. Lively atmosphere, good drinks and a very central location. This is pretty much the«nicest» bar I’ve been to in Portland, and I use that term very loosely. It’s not upscale, but it is definitely nicer than I’ve slowly grown accustomed to in Portland(note: I mean this as a compliment). Don’t, however, feel as though you have to be dressed up to fit in. I’ve been there a couple times in a t-shirt. Drinks are reasonably priced for what you’re getting — $ 10 – 12. If you want somewhere a little bigger than Cask in Uptown, this should be the first option on your list. Cask is going to be a more quaint and comparatively quiet.

Love this place. It’s intimate, great drinks, even better music, and amazing service! The drinks are well-made and the servers know their shit! I’m a picky drinker, slowly moving my way into whiskey like the rest of Portlandia. Thankfully, my server was able to help me pick out a drink. Thank you, Good Sir. This place is really small, with a weird shaped(I think it’s a teardrop) bar in the middle that kind of takes up all the space. So, I suggest coming here with no more than a group of 4! It does get busy, FYI! They even serve fish bowls :) This takes me back to my college days where I would just drink jungle juice the whole entire night.

I am a fan of this place. I love the feel of it. The roundness, the hipness, the old-timey glasses, the giant drinks. I’m back in the 20s! It’s classy, hipster fun, but not in an annoying way. It’s clear by the giant drinks and cocktail care taken that this place takes drinking seriously — but in a wonderfully gay way. They serve very high-falutin’ drinks — from my perspective. I’m that asshole who still orders cosmos and sex on the beach — and not because I think it makes me look cool — much the opposite. I just dont like the pepper, cucumber, overly mint, lilac and bitters drinks that are the rage everywhere. Boo hoo me. But these guys made me something that did the trick and were more than pleasant and accomodating about it. My friend and I tried a few menu items(on my 2nd visit here) and I wasnt dissapointed. Sweet potato pie — so rich and sweet and tiny slightly crunchy marshmallos atop made my heart sing! The artichoke was also quite deliscious. The drinks are on the high side for cheap girls. But happy hour offers $ 7 cocktails which isn’t too bad at all. I do like this place a lot. There are outside tables and I once saw Fred Armiston walking by while out having a smoke!!!

s/o to Jenny P. for reminding me to review this spot. «Not smiling makes me smile» — Kanye West via Twitter dtd 10/11/2014 There aren’t many things that«wow» me. For the record, I’m not only a cynical asshole on Unilocal… But I’m an asshole in person too. I could literally go to a Broadway musical and sit stone faced through the whole act, I blame the internet for my expectations being so high. Teardrop, aesthetically, is just another modern swanky bar… Much like many of the«speakeasy» inspired spots we have in SF. The servers are friendly, the bartenders are engaging and the drinks are creative. However, the Saffron Sour«WOW’d» me. I’m not much of a cocktail guy, but the Saffron Sour is hands down the best(see: life changing, bar setting, etc.) cocktail I have had in my entire life. Its Fernet Branca(see: current crush for the past few years), lime, saffron syrup and egg whites. Now, lemme explain. I know what you’re thinking: «Fernet, a digestive, and egg whites?! I’ll be peeing out of my ass in no time!» Wrong. While I usually drink fernet paired with a coke or as a shot chased by ginger, this drink magically paired with its components puts a whole new spin that I have never experienced before. Not only did I savor every sip, I begged for another upon completion. Granted, I have had many fernet cocktails over the years(Anvil in Houston has the Golden Gate Slam, Trick Dog and Park Tavern in SF have multiple), nobody has been able to recreate the love I experienced with the Saffron Sour from Teardrop. Whether you’re a fernet lover like myself or you’re just looking for a great cocktail, you’re doing yourself a disservice by not trying one. Portland, you’re missed and envied. xoxoxo

Teardrop is located in the Pearl, near to the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream shop. It’s easily walkable from MANY other places, but parking can be a bit of a pain(street parking at least). Inside, the atmosphere is relaxed and personal. True to the name, the space is shaped like a teardrop, with the bar in the middle. Bathrooms are at the back, in the hallway. The seating here is great for people popping in to grab a drink in small number, but could present issues for groups. Along the edges they have some tables, but the majority of the seating is at the bar, or at a small counter running alongside the wall. We came in early(just past 8pm on a Wednesday) and were able to get a table. But a few larger groups came in while we were there and couldn’t find seating all together. They serve food and drinks here, but they’re on separate menus. The food isn’t really a meal, but certainly more than just snacks. We had roasted cauliflower with a cumin sauce and the margherita flatbread. Both were great. Even though the small plates they offer are good, the drinks are the reason you walk in the door. Or more accurately, the mixologists are the reason you walk in the door. Apparently the menu changes frequently, but in any case, it’s broken down into three categories: House Cocktails, Classics, and Alumni( ) But while they have a tasty array of cocktails to pick off the menu, they’ll also figure out a drink for you if you tell them what flavors you want. I’ve seen my wife attempt this at MANY bars. She doesn’t like sweet drinks, but she’s also not a fan of very alcohol forward drinks. Last night she simply described liking cucumber and not wanting something sweet, I think she also mentioned alcohol she didn’t want to drink. And with a smile they bartender just nodded and said he’d take care of it… and he absolutely did. The drink they brought back was perfect, exactly what she was after(and she ended up asking for another). This NEVER happens, and is testament to the skill/consideration of the staff here. We had a variety of different drinks(I’ll comment on the ones I tried): Gimlet — This is what they brought my wife. I think they modified it a bit and muddled some cucumber. I tried it, it was great. Hobnail — This was a really great gingery mix. I ended up having two. A bit of sweet, a bit of whiskey(but my whiskey hating wife still liked the taste), and a good ginger undertone. Oxford Punch — We got a ½ order of this table punch. It needed a stir to mix the ingredients. At first, it has a robitussin flavor, which was kind of startling… but after a stir and a few sips I enjoyed it. The ½ size was perfect for 4 people planning on ordering other drinks. Other drinks included: Infinite Jest Siesta Blackhawk Fallen Fruit Stick & Rudder I had one of the others above, but can’t remember which it was. I had asked for something with shrub in it, and the cocktail he brought did, and whiskey. The service was fantastic throughout the night, and as I said above, the attention to detail and consideration our server provided was probably the best I’ve had from a cocktail bar. If I were walking through the Pearl, I’d definitely pop in here to grab a drink or make an evening of cocktails.

Chic. Classy. Amazing cocktails. The space is super hip with booths around some of the walls, surrounding a teardrop shaped bar packed with great booze options. Our super friendly server provided some fantastic suggestions — I loved both of the drinks I tried! Well done, madam! They were showing some kind of obscure Japanese movie on repeat on their projection screen… I don’t know what it was but it had some pretty disturbing moments that jarred with the classy atmosphere. The music and slick styling made me feel like I was in a ridiculously trendy spot — something that always makes me feel a little out of place! Despite that, the clientele seemed like a nice mix of hipsters, fancy folks, and normal, and I’d definitely come back here — for the incredible cocktails and awesome service if nothing else!

This should be an easy review to write because there are so many truly splendid things to say about Teardrop, but I’m afraid I’ll miss something vital. First off, as a native, taking an out of town friend, or small group of friends, who enjoy unique cocktails is a super idea. Sadly I’m not a night life girl as much as I was but now I’ve got a solution if something other than my old dive bar faves becomes essential. I’ve been wanting to come her since Istanbul was Constantinople so, I’ve been patient and the wait was oh, so worth it. My husband and I had need to get away from real life and away from familiar stressors that said– we got a little bit dressed up and like teens at a party, showed up on a Saturday ten minutes after opening. The setting was comfortable, minimalist, great light, all in sort of a circle with the centerpiece being a gorgeously equipped bar with all the potions, juices, herbs, fruits and magic in which to hang the creation on your throat and tastebuds. Do what you will with the double entendre, you naughty person. The service was impeccable. The gentleman helping us was patient and like others have said, clearly passionate about what he does, wanting us to have the grand experience we came for. And we did. What we chose to drink, though superb, isn’t as important as you knowing what you want to drink, and if you don’t– trust these young whip smarts to get it right. They will. I’m not a Pearl District resident but this is worth the pesky parking(screw that, take a cab because you’re gonna need it– just sayin) and the fancy pantsness of the neighborhood~ Teardrop just makes you feel welcome and happy whether you’re with a date or a good friend. Looking forward to going back — just gimme a reason and I’m there toute suite.

First class cocktail bar in Portland. I had a very delicious drink here some time ago. I will be happy to come back some time! No matter if you are in Teardrop Lounge on a date, or with a group of girls, the bartenders there will make you feel taken care of. In my case it was the first instance and somehow the bartender gave me attention and at the same time knew how to chat with my date. I saw a group of girls came in without reservations and they took care of accommodating them quickly with drinks and a table. Good for: date night, girls night out and guys night out. Dress to impress(for real).

This place is so fancy. In a great way. Their cocktails are so refined and delicious – I think this place would burn a hole in my wallet if I lived in Portland. Prices are a little high($ 10-$ 12 a glass), but really, I’d pay that fare for these drinks any day. The drink that sold me on this place is called«Afterglow.» It’s a sweet cocktail with a delightful pear flavor(and comes garnished with some thin pear slices). I had to keep myself from drinking it too fast for fear of getting too intoxicated! ‘A’ got the Claridge and really enjoyed that as well. I’ll be back next time I’m in town!

Pretty spot with pretty drink! I came here for one thing and one thing only. Their punch bowl(s). The décor and fun servers made it that much better. They have many different bitters and libations but we went with the punch bowl. The small will run you around $ 32 and it’s still quite plenty to share for four people. Or go for the bigger one. I love that it came with two feet long straws! Much easier to share and get to your drink without having to move! Cobra kai ~ The bowl itself was tasty and not too sweet. Pretty stiff as well! One share bowl will leave you happy. Two shared punchbowls = bring out the microphones. You’re ready to conquer the Portlandia with more drinks and singing some seriously magical songs. So, I did just that: D. The end! Thanks Cobra Kai!

This place makes some damn delicious drinks. The Portland cocktail scene is impressive in itself, and Teardrop made some of the best drinks I tried on my recent Portland trip. They have a House Cocktail section, a Classics section, and a Friends section. The Friends part was particularly interesting, as they featured recipes from other notable bars around the US. I tried the Boss Colada from Cane & Table in NOLA — rum, pineapple, lime, with a hint of Bäska Snaps licorice goodness. My favorite drink was the Afterglow, which was Capitol vodka, d’anjou pear, lemon, maple, black pepper, and sparkling wine. It reminded me of apple cider, and I was drinking it like juice. You gotta be careful around these! Teardrop is great for small groups, since they offer a few drinks in larger sizes that serve up to 6. There’s a small bites menu that had easy to share options as well. Ambiance is upscale and yet casual. The central bar is well designed and impressive to see. The servers are friendly and happy to explain any unfamiliar ingredients. There’s even a glossary in the back of the drinks menu to assist. Teardrop is a winner for fancy cocktails in a classy, but laid-back environment.
