Tai’s Tailor

This guy is so great! I’ve taken multiple pairs of jeans to him because hemming jeans can be such a mess. When he’s done with them they look like they were made that way. His prices cannot be beat either – I think he charged me $ 8 for the last pair I brought in. He’s really quick if you need it too.

I have used them 3 times for simple alterations with great results at low low prices. The only downside is that they don’t call when the work is done, so you have to remember to go back and check in. Good local work!

I went here in December to get my girlfriend’s jacket lined with faux fur. We had bought the fabric at a wholesale fabric place for cheap. He acted very hesitant about doing it and said it would be difficult and take a long time and possibly not look good given the light structure of the jacket. He said it would be $ 50, which I thought was expensive, but then when I took it to another tailor downtown, they said it would be $ 80. So back to Tai’s I went. I’m so glad I did! It did take around 3 or 4 weeks to complete, which is understandable. And it looked wonderful when he was done and was just what my girlfriend wanted. She’s very happy with it and that’s what really matters. Tai is a very skilled tailor, and I think his work is the best value as well compared to other tailors in the area. The only reason I deducted a star is because when I went back the first time he was closed 30 minutes before the closing time given on the door. It really annoys me when businesses aren’t open when they say they will be, which seems to be quite common here in Portland.

Dropped off a pair of dress slacks to be shortened and hemmed. He did a great job for a more than reasonable price. I will be using him going forward. Highly recommend!

No bells and whistles. Just a great guy, doing incredible work, at very reasonable prices.
Due to a company holiday party, and some procrastination on my part, I was in need of some last minute alternations to a suit. I recently lost about 30lbs and almost never wear a suit. When I tried on my one and only suit, it was much too big, and I looked ridiculous.
On a Tuesday, I visited his shop needing my suit altered and ready for wear that Saturday night. This meant slimming the coat sleeves, taking in the back, shortening the pants hem, and slimming the pant legs. Tai was so nice and didn’t make me feel like the idiot I knew i was, for making this last minute request. He accepted the work and had the suit altered and ready for pick up on FRIDAY! His work was flawless, and my suit feels brand new. As long as I live within 50 miles of Tai’s Tailor, it will be my go-​to spot for all my tailoring needs. Come to think of it, I have a new pair of jeans that need shortening…

Stopped in there to see if he could mend an OLD vintage bathrobe. He couldn’t but suggested a workaround. Great guy and very friendly! We chatted a bit and he said he had been there 28 years. Sadly, his kind of space is a disappearing breed. Anyhow, go there and give him your sewing business…28 years’ (at least) experience shouldn’t be wasted!

This was my first time coming in. I had a zipper pull that got ripped off in the dryer. He stopped what he was doing and had my zipper fixed within 5 minutes and he sent me on my way. He didn’t charge me anything because he said he didn’t do anything. But, perhaps what he didn’t realize, is that small gesture made my day. I will only ever bring alterations and mending here!

Tai is not going to call you when he’s done. Tai is not going to give you a bag with his logo on it to carry your clothes home (He will most likely use a plastic bag the type you get from Plaid). Tai is not going to have an espresso machine in the front of the store while you wait.
No, all Tai is going to do is be the most awesome precise incredible tailor in the history of tailors. He’s done jeans, dress pants, blazers, even leather jackets for me. The man is a freaking warlock.
If you want «amenities,» go to Beaverton. If you want incredible tailoring at a price you won’t believe, go to Tai. Dude is like a brick of gold.

I will give Tai my dedicated business as long as he is open. This man can work a needle and thread like nobody’s business. His charges for alterations simply cannot be beat. His quality of service cannot be beat. He is a man of solid of character with one hell of a turnaround time. Tai is the best in town!

Affordable and high quality work. Not sure I was called when it was done, but he warned me of that. Cool shop, clearly a gathering spot for Tai’s community. Would happily go back or refer to a friend

i have been going here since the early 90’s. Tai is the best tailor i have had and boy howdy have i had a lot of tailors, including Nordstrom’s.
I was born with short arms so ALL my coats and jackets, many types of tops must be a challenge, but he has always done them to perfection, with a reasonable charge and in a timely manner. At times when i have requested he was even able to put the cuff back on the sleeve after shortening. He is amazing.
I tried someone closer to me after we moved. With great patience and what i believed to be accuracy we hemmed the sleeve. When i got it back one of the sleeves was too short and the expensive coat was ruined. Those people did not offer to even wave the cost of the tailoring! wha?
I can be self-​concious pertaining to my arms but he has always made me feel comfortable.
.I will never leave Tai again. i HIGHLY recommend him.

Quality work, fair price, friendly customer service. He may not call back when it’s done though, so I recommend being proactive about calling to follow up regarding pick-​up.

I’ve come here often. Always happy with the quality and price. The guy is so funny, he’s a little unorganized but he’s never disappointed me.

My experience here made my day. I have a down jacket, that needed the zipper fixed, cold weather upon us I decided to try out this little spot on Foster that I had driven by many times. I went, the man inside was so nice, and knew what he was doing. 5 minutes, and 5 dollars later my jacket was fixed!!! I was amazed. I will be back!!!

Well, after even worse experiences and very high prices working with other tailors, I have decided that Thai is not as bad as I once thought. I have now paid far more for worse results on four other occasions, so I’m willing to forgive him. That’s right, he’s getting stars back based on the fact that tailors in Portland, by and large, are not good at their jobs.
He is also getting stars back because my wife walked in with pants needing a hem, and he did it for her while she waited. It took him 15 minutes and he charged her $ 5.00. I cannot rightly give one star to Thai at this point because let’s face it, that is just awesome service for crazy cheap.

Tai did right by my partner who needed to have a pair of 70s/​80s suit pants to be narrowed down (think bellbottom-​y) and hemmed. He was able to take in and slim down the pant legs within a reasonable time (less than a week) and it was super duper affordable.
The only thing is that he didn’t call my partner to pick up his pants because Tai didn’t want to call an out-​of-​state phone number. Ha! He only knew his pants were done because he went in to check on them a day or two after they were promised.

Super reliable. I always get my pants hemmed here. He only charges five bucks per pair which is fairly cheap.
Only downside is he takes it easy so he usually takes a while to get them done. Calling to check in on the status of your clothes is a must. So plan ahead if you are in a rush to get them done.
He usually leaves at four every day. And works Monday to Saturday

He’s a funny super friendly guy, his work is impeccable, and his rates are unbelievably low. Excellent all around!

I’ve never used a tailor for alterations before, but based on the two OTHER reviews though, I expected it to be quick and cheap for alterations. The cheap is true, I had a blazer that needed the sleeves shortened, and it was only $ 15. Considering it was also lined, and an outer strap also had to be moved, I was more than happy with the price.
I dropped it off on a Wednesday, said it would take probably two days. Okay, I call back that next Wednesday, a week later. He says that it’s not ready, and actually, that he can’t find it. What the hell? Before panic set it, he called back and told me he found my jacket, but hadn’t started yet. Now, when someone quotes me two days, and it’s already been a week and he hasn’t looked at it… that kind of makes me mad.
All said and done, it was not until that Friday (a week and two days) that my jacket was ready. The sleeves were slightly uneven (one shorter than the other) and the decorative straps had been sewn on crooked, and still had loose thread where they used to be. There’s not any way he can reverse what he’s done and make the sleeve longer, so I’m stuck with a slightly uneven jacket now. He might be good at hemming pants, but I’d steer clear of anything moderately difficult.
Don’t waste your money, or your time.

I’ve never found right size pants for me in the States.
So this place is my saver!
The price is cheap, and fast.
One time he forgot to call me but no big deal.
He already finished my 2 pairs of pants in 2days!(just forgot to call me)
