I came here for my prom dress and I had to come back 5 times because she couldn’t get it right. Bad stitching and cutting. My dress is ruined and I didn’t even go to prom anymore because of how bad it was. She made me pay full price and I honestly should’ve just walked out. Coming here was such a waste of time and money. No joke it was so bad to the point where I cried and trust me, I rarely ever get emotional like this. I was so mad to the point where I cried out of frustration. Not to mention that she overcharges. She charged me $ 70 just to trim the length.

This review is way way too late, but I wanted to write it because truly by far this is one of the best experiences I’ve had in Portland. I had a lady suit that I wore in my cousin’s wedding and she altered it in the hem in a very quick turnaround. She’s extremely professional and complementary and able to work on a very tight timeframe. Her work looked incredible and I would recommend her to anyone.
Side note: A few weeks ago I went to get my nails done in a totally different part of town. Somehow I started talking about this seamstress and her work. The woman who was doing my nails told me that everyone in the Asian community in Portland goes to the seamstress. She’s that amazing.

Gave this place a try based on Unilocal reviews and now I get it. Dropped my dress off Tuesday and picked up Saturday. I was worried about the alterations changing the style of the dress and told the owner my concerns. The alterations were immaculate! I think pricing is average but service was superior. She hemmed the slip that I was concerned would show under the dress without me even asking! If you’re looking for a luxury shop keep looking lol; but if you like good prices, service, and workmanship then yea, go here!

Uhhhh-​maaaazzzzing [Oprah voice]!!! Kim was fantastic. I had some jeans lying around that I was not putting to good use (wearing them) due to the fact that I have tiny legs and most jeans are always too long. I decided to do something about it so I Unilocaled some spots with great reviews. This place had rave shoutouts and is conveniently in my neighborhood.
I brought the jeans in last week and they were done by the promised date. Tried them on and man, the job was well done. You can’t even tell that they’ve been altered. I had three jeans hemmed, and took the waist in on another pair. The total was outrageously affordable and would highly recommend!
Hemmed jeans were priced at $ 7/​each and taking in the waist was $ 15. Wasn’t even too sure that the latter could be done, but they fit like a glove and now I don’t have to wear a belt with those ones! Ecstatic!
Kim does all the alterations herself, so don’t expect her to get the alterations done while you’re there. Her timeframe of about a week is more than reasonable for doing all that fiiiine work.
Cash only! She’ll scribble down the price before you leave, so be sure to bring the right amount upon pick-​up! Good job, Kim. I’m sure I’ll have more clothes for you to help me fit like it was meant for me.

I highly recommend Kim! She did a beautiful job altering a bridesmaids dress that was a size too big, and it now fits me like a glove. Before this experience I had never taken my clothing in to be altered. After reading Kim’s Unilocal reviews, I gave her a call and booked an appointment. Kim welcomed me with a warm smile, had me try the dress on, took my measurements and told me what she could do with the dress. Having faith in the positive Unilocal reviews, I left the dress with her and picked it up 3 weeks later. I was not in a rush (the wedding was 1 month out). She was also accommodating with scheduling a pick up time (I’m in retail and my schedule didn’t mesh well with her hours). When I came in to pick up the dress I couldn’t have been more pleased with the outcome! The dress that had originally swallowed me whole, now fit snug (not too snug) and looked like it was made for me… which it was thanks to Kim :)

Kim is amazing! I needed to have a blazer tailored for a wedding, and after reading her reviews on Unilocal I figured it was worth an hour drive to see her. It was well worth it. She tailored my blazer for a very good price and it looks great now. She told me many people have been discovering her from Unilocal and that many days she stays late to have her orders done, but that she loves her work and loves seeing her customers reactions. I’ve used Kim several times to alter my daughter’s clothes (holes in expensive jeans), my swimsuit tops, hems, etc. Kim is very sweet, affordable and talented. I am always happy with her work!
Always best to call ahead for appointment or to see if your clothes are ready. She gets very busy and works by herself.

I wish I could leave a good review because Kim was so nice, but unfortunately the quality of the work was bad. After bringing her two dresses — a wedding and a bridesmaid dress, the hem on the wedding dress came out 6 inches too short and the hem on the bridesmaid dress fell out mid rehearsal. While the customer service and the price was great, it wasn’t worth the damage to the dresses.

I had a really great experience with Kim at Ao Dai and am happy to spread the word about her business.
She’s very talented, with almost 20 years experience sewing. She took just a glance at me and knew exactly what to do. When I picked up my clothes yesterday, they were perfect. I had a lot done, too. Three jackets (brought in and shortened the sleeves) and five pairs of pants (hemmed and tapered). She did the job for $ 270 for all the alterations. The alterations were the same on each pair of pants, and the changes were all very uniform.
The customer service experience as great too. First — she’s really nice and obviously cares about her customers. I tried everything on at the shop to make sure it all fit well. She said she would be happy to make further adjustments if I didn’t like something once I got home. I doubt I’m going to need to take her up on that offer, though.
A couple quick words of advice: make an appointment before you show up. I didn’t the first time I went in, and considering I needed considerable attention given the amount of alterations I needed, I ended up just leaving and coming back the next day after confirming a time. Second — despite what Unilocal says, she does accept credit card payments!

First time going here, and it was terrible. Went in there to have my suit pants tailored, she said to come back in 40 mins, but when I came back, it wasn’t finished, and had to wait an extra 30 mins. Then my special suit hangar was supposedly «missing», but I’m sure she stole it cause it was super nice, it was able to hold both my suit & pants, but she left me with her old shitty one. And kept telling me to leave, and didn’t help me in finding it. She kept laughing it off when I was obviously pissed off, and annoyed.

I took my wedding dress to Kim and she did AMAZING!!! I’m so happy with how it turned out. I had lost about 15 pounds from when I originally ordered the dress so it was very loose on the top and around the torso. Kim made it fit like a glove! She also added a bustle to the dress for me.
I paid ¹⁄₃ of what the alterations place at the wedding dress store was going to charge me and I don’t see how it could have turned out any better! I will definitely take any other items in the future that need altering to Kim and would highly recommend her to anyone needing bridal alterations or any type of alterations.

Kim is very affordable and got the job done within days! My dress turned out beautiful just the way I wanted it.

I came in to get two pairs of suit pants taken in around the waist. After putting on the pants, she just took a look and had me take them back off… no pinning or measuring or anything. Needless to say I was a little bit skeptical.
I picked them up today and tried them on… and all I can say is, «wow!» They fit like a glove. And it cost significantly less than any tailor I’ve been to before.
I’m definitely coming back!

Best tailor in Portland. She gets all my clothes PERFECT. Very affordable cost! Would not go to anyone else.

Unilocal steered me right once again! I was in need of some tailoring for my suit for my wedding and wanted to just get a simple tailoring job done without costing me and arm, a leg, or a wife. I live on 82^nd, so hopping down to the Fubon Shopping center was pretty easy for me. Kim’s shop is located immediately to the left when you walk in. On my first trip, I brought in my jacket I needed tailored, she was busily working away and told me to put it on. She marked the jacket gave me a cost ($ 60 to tailor the jack sleeves and tighten it around the waste a little).
The funniest part is she doesn’t really keep a calendar or anything. I dropped it off May 15^th and she said to come back in June. Yep, just June. No specific date. You can’t really expect it, it’s just their style. I came back about 3 weeks later and it wasn’t quite ready. It was actually visibly still in progress as she has cut up the sleeves already. She said to come back in a few more days.
Ended up being a couple more weeks before I could get back there. She remembered who I was both times and remember that I said it was for my wedding. She is a very nice lady and does great work. The suit fit perfectly. Another funny piece is I asked if I could pay with a credit card. She said yes, but then took me across the hall of the shopping center to the telephone company next door to use their card system! They must have some «agreement» that she can share the machine. If you need clothes tailored, this is the place to go.

I found Kim on Unilocal and had intended to bring my dress in to have it altered a couple weeks before leaving to go to a friend’s wedding in Texas — but then was injured and couldn’t drive due to medication. I was finally able to bring it in only four days before leaving and apologized profusely for such a tight schedule but she was incredibly sweet and even let me come in early so I could pick it up before heading to the airport for my flight.
She only takes cash so be prepared for that — but she gives you a quote when you drop the dress off so you know what to bring. A big bonus was that it ended up being cheaper than she originally quoted me! She did an amazing job and I will definitely be back!

I found Kim on Unilocal and based on the other reviews, I knew she was the only one who could pull off tailoring the BHLDN dress I bought on sale (that was way too long and fit horribly around the chest area) in less than one week. I called and setup an appointment the same day.
Her shop is the first store on the left when you walk into the FuBonn building. It’s not fancy and there is a ton of traditional Vietnamese clothes on display. She found a way to create a fitting room by draping off the back corner of her shop. It’s just enough space to change and she was helpful in zipping me up and adjusting the slip. Initially, I just wanted the dress shortened and the chest somehow fixed. My expectations were not high as the chest was way too large, droopy and low cut. The back also drooped too low and the keyhole cut was oddly shaped.
Kim started working her magic, using tens of safety pins to make the top fit. It was unreal what she was able to do. She even cinched the low cut front so it was more modest and the back looked like it was made for me. Then she suggested taking in the sleeves of the dress to make it look even more feminine and flattering. She pinned them and I was sold. After pinning the bottom for length, she said it’d be done on Thursday.
I went in at noon on Thursday and she asked that I come back at three. Around 3:15 I went back and tried the dress on. It was not the same dress. It looked like a dress that had been custom made for me-that’s how well it fit! The left arm was a little tighter than I wanted it to be so she quickly took some stitches out to loosen it and it was perfect. I’ve attached photos from our photo shoot by Jamie Jones Photography.
I highly recommend Kim for anything. She does it all from bridal wear to men’s wear and creating custom suits. She is incredibly fast and super affordable. I plan on taking my wedding dress to her in the near future.

Q: Where can you drop off a pair of pants that need to be hemmed last-​minute on a Sunday afternoon, spend fifteen minutes browsing in a huge Asian supermarket next door, and pick up the altered pants fifteen minutes later for $ 6?

Seriously, the length is perfect and the new hems look impeccable. I made the mistake of wandering in the supermarket for half an hour instead of fifteen minutes and got back to find that the place had closed* — and the owner saw me walking out of the building and re-​opened so I could pick up my clothes and pay. I’d come back in a heartbeat.
* So, Unilocal’s hours aren’t quite right — at least on this particular Sunday, they closed at 5 instead of at 7.
