Didn’t like this Starbucks at first for a minor reason but I’ve come to enjoy this location more than any other in Portland. I sincerely apologize for not getting to know the staff before leaving a review. That’s my mistake.

It’s a Starbucks. But it’s my local Starbucks! The baristas are all so nice and willing to answer questions about the menu. Very patient and genuine employees but service is still very quick and easy. I like the inside of this particular location and can watch the foot traffic on the street go by from the big windows. Also free wifi that works nicely.

Visited this Starbucks to grab a breakfast sandwich before my morning seminar because they’re usually pretty quick with their sandwiches… I waited a while for mine, and went to ask the barista to see what was going on since most of them were just chilling behind the counter. Turned out they forgot about it. They rushed to throw it into the toaster and gave me a gift card for a free drink or sandwich for my next visit.

Amazing employees — but the coffee… there are a dozen better roasters around.

Always friendly, always courteous. This is the best of what Starbucks has to offer. I know the company wants them all to offer a consistent service, but some are actually better than others. This store rocks.

The team here is second to none, I’m greeted by name when I come in, and always receive exceptional service.

Come on people! You live in Portland. Great Coffee is all around you. It is cheaper and better than this burnt out — over processed bitter pill. I know they have free wi-fi and the staff girls are cute as buttons, but get out and broaden your horizons. Otherwise, I fear the complete takeover of the green sea maiden and her bitter coffee is all that we will have left…

I study here often and its always freezing cold. So I approached the barista and asked politely the reason behind the fans blowing cold air 24⁄7. She replied with«huh? It ain’t cold to me. That’s weird…» and laughed it off. Totally disregarded my comment and continued, «that’ll be $ 2.45.» Her reply was so dry and disconnected– she really couldn’t give less of a shit at my small concern.

We’re having a humdinger of a weather day today — wind, flooding rain — you know the drill(umbrella turning-inside-out weather). To say I was reluctant to go out and face the day was an understatement, but it was an emergent situation, so just like one of the seven dwarves, off I went. A stop at this Starbucks for time with a cup of Earl Grey was the ideal way to fortify myself before donning my superhero cape and leaping into the fray. Superhero or not, I was truly touched when the baristas remembered my drink and gave me a plate for my scone because they remembered how much I enjoyed sitting at the front window to relax and regroup. Too often I think we condemn corporate giants such as Starbucks as soulless; maybe so elsewhere, but not at this venue. Somebody knew what they were doing when they hired and trained this team. By their small act of kindness, the spirit of the season was brought home to me, and I send back the same greetings to them.

This Starbucks is superlative! Super excellent service! Great memory for drinks! I switch up often and they remember until I change again! Love it!

Same medium-grade Starbucks coffee with a terrible remodel. Very claustrophobic. Trying to interact with cashiers is difficult due to blocked counter; displays have been moved from walls into open spaces, obstructing view and blocking flow of humans. Very cattle-chute feel to the place now. The attempt at horizontal planks on the bar failed; doesn’t feel like kitsch, merely adds to cattle chute effect. Black+Aluminum wainscot darkens the place, has an Ikea feel; and the mix of(7?) mismatched wall & floor coverings in such a small space fails entirely. Cements my decision to pay a bit more for better coffee across the street, when I can. Starbucks automated coffee has ever been the baseline, not the premium, product; this store does have really friendly employees though. Love ya guys

Why would anyone want to go here when there are 4 other good local coffee places here in St. John’s. Even if this was the best Starbucks in town, everyone needs to be going to the local joints. Well I’m not giving this billion dollar below average coffee company any of my money.

Come here a lot because it’s quick and consistent. The workers are always cheery, even when I’m not sure about what I want and they have to wait. They messed up my drink order once but fixed it before they even gave it to me. Gave me my drink, the extra, and a coupon for a free drink another visit. Starbucks added more breakfast sandwiches recently and they are good. The low fat turkey bacon is my favorite. A couple times it’s been a little over-warmed up(is there such a thing?) and one side has been a little hard. Should complain because they would totally fix it but I am usually in a rush when I order that.

Staff even friendlier than Starbucks-friendly! Some Starbucks shops have good study atmosphere but this particular branch isn’t one of them. I hope they renovate the place but keep the comfy chairs.

[Insert rant here about how I’m not a huge fan of Starbucks, there coffee isn’t that great, bla, bla bla…] This particular Starbucks has a lot going for it. Perfect size, great seating options, and plenty of parking options. I have to say too, I have never come here and not seen several police officers come in. That’s supposed to make me feel pretty safe, right?

I used to frequent this Starbucks when I lived close to St. Johns. Staff was always friendly and they have adequate seating both indoors and out,. I always get lattes, and I know what it’s going to taste like when I go to any Startbucks, so it’s easy. My only complaint was the parking. For the most part, not easy to get a spot, but it is downtown St. Johns, so that’s the way it goes.

Its a Starbucks so you can pretty much rely on the consistency of product. What really sets each location apart is the people working behind the counter. The folks here were not only really friendly and warm, but they also were quite accommodating when my boyfriend accidentally ordered me a coffee drink(I’m allergic to coffee — Yes, feel sorry for me). I took one sip and knew what had happened, returned to the counter and asked for a chai version. The barista didn’t even bat an eye and said, «sure no problem» pushed my remake to the front of the line. It was done perfectly. I am excited to be moving to this neighborhood in a few weeks and to visit this and other St John’s shops regularly.

The Bucks. Home of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, Gingerbread Latte and… burnt coffee. I used to be able to appreciate Starbucks. That was before I moved to Portland: Land of FANTASTIC Coffee. The rest of the country does not know what it’s missing. But back to Starbucks… The 3 stars are for(1) free wifi,(2) friendly baristas,(3) a local coffee hang that doesn’t close at 3pm. This is not my first choice but at least I know what I’m getting when I step through the doors. But why not walk 2 doors down to James John Café(if it’s before 3pm, that is)? Oh well. I suppose I will still be going in for a Gingerbread Latte every now and then during the holiday season.

Starbucks – like local restaurant chain McMenamin’s – offers up reliable mediocrity. If you’re on the go, unfamiliar with a neighbourhood, or not a connoisseur, Starbucks can caffeinate you adequately for a reliable price point without the risk of encountering the Espresso-Snob attitude present in some of Portland’s other establishments and the baffling array of choices(and associated price-hikes) of a place like Stumptown: «Oh, [condescending sideways smile through half-closed eyes] you’ve never tried Civet coffee [eyelash flutter]…well, it’s simply the best; and at only $ 3.85 for a 6oz. small, it’s just a must-do.» My issue with this location is NOT in the coffee – the coffee is standard Starbucks fare; vaguely over-roasted, highly acidic(even in their lighter roasts), and available in ENORMOUS sizes. The service is swift and almost cafeteria-esque. The staff is friendly and polite and – as mentioned above – SPEEDY. They’ll also accommodate whatever bizarre request you might make, like leaving me 3″ of room in my cup so I can cut the acid with a boatload of half-&half. My issue with this particular location is that it’s always TEEMING with Portland Cops. I am not a fan of guns, generally, and having as many as eight tattooed, mustachioed, testosterone oozing, ready-to-kill Portland Pigs in a locale is an issue for me. Especially since St. Johns is a neighbourhood in the PPD’s favourite murder-zones. Mind you, I am a white guy in a suit. I am not(generally) the murder-target of the PPD(unless I were mentally ill, or having a diabetic medical emergency – then WATCHOUT for flying bullets and welcome to TAZERTOWN!), but I still don’t like being around them. After living downtown for years, I have seen far to many PPD murders actually occur in front of me and truly hope I can live the remainder of my days in Portland without encountering another. I don’t like that our tax dollars pay them to fraternize(armed) in a coffee shop while they ought to be citing the kids in rice-burners zooming past my house at 70mph. This locale’s manager really ought to ask the«Peace» Officers to at least disarm… if not ask them flat-out to get their drinks to go(better, go Red & Black Café style and tell them not to come in at all!). Needless to say, if you don’t like to rub shoulders with Portland’s union-approved roving killsquads, avoid this location!

It’s a Starbucks, you pretty much know what to expect. Service has always been fast and friendly. This is a pretty small location, so seating can be a little hard to come by at times. I do wish there were more wall outlets for those of us that bring laptops in(which is like 90% of Starbucks customers). Though I’m only in here every once in a while, I’ve noticed that a lot of the other customers seem to be regulars, so they must be doing something right. I like supporting local business, but before you slam Starbucks because it’s a corporate owned coffee chain, you might want to remember that they’re providing decent, stable jobs in a poor economy, to people who more than likely live in this community too. It’s not like the baristas fly home to Seattle at the end of their shift. I know a few people who work or have worked for Starbucks and have no complaints, so I feel it’s a little bit short-sighted to hate on the company as a whole just because they’re a chain.
