Very friendly service, interesting seasonal flavors(loved the cardamom latte), nice music(not too loud) and a lovely atmosphere with the little in store flower shop. Oh, and a good selection of milks. Soy, almond AND my personal favorite, hemp.

Amazing coffee. Mount does a stellar job. Service can be a bit slow in the morning. They might want to add a 3rd barista during the am rush.

Mmmmmmmmmmm coffee. Local coffee. I tried St. Johns Coffee Roasters on a crazy Unilocaler camping trip a couple years ago(thanks Mary B!), and I swear, that was the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had. It took me awhile to actually get out to the place where the best coffee comes from, but better late than never. I went traditional, had a caramel latte. It was smooth and creamy, yet bold and amazing. After spending the morning bumming around St. Johns, I actually went back and got another cup of coffee. Quick service, fair prices — but it’s so popular that you can’t always find a place to sit!

Austin has most certainly perfected the art of steaming the milk. The smoothest late with the most amazing texture of a late you will ever drink!

Stunning in every sense. The Latin Lovers roast is amazing and the orange caramel latte is the best thing I’ve ever had in my life!

I won’t be back to this shop for several reasons: 1. The ONE table was dirty with crumbs and coffee spills 2. There were several annoying flies that would hand on cups and food(see picture) 3. I ordered a bagel which was dry and hard. This was before I realised they were uncovered by the front counter which now creeps me out because of the flies. We then went to fourth estate and had a much more pleasant experience. That’s all. Just an honest response.

Love the inside of this place! It has a such a fun and inviting atmosphere. The drip coffee is all that I’ve had so far and it is very good coffee. Since I live very close I’ll be back to try an Americano in the near future! Instead of hitting the Starbucks in St. John’s take the extra 2 block walk and grab a cup of Jo from here!

Friendly staff, great neighborhood vibe. Delicious coffee and espresso. Dragonfly chai. Very little seating — even though there is room to double the number of chairs. Great selection of non-animal milks(soy, almond, hemp…), but not many(any?) vegan food/snack options. Several packaged foods that I thought might be vegan: kale wrap, Field Roast breakfast burrito, etc. But all have egg and or animal cheese! Very bizarre. With more healthy, animal-free options, they’d be great.

This place has the best coffee. It’s delicious, very high quality(shade-grown; fair trade) and they are exclusively organic(everything they use here – not just the coffee – the cream, milk, pastries .). The baristas here are super friendly and helpful too.

So I tend to run super late when it comes to catching the 16 bus right in front of St. John’s Coffee roasters. I also am not a big coffee drinker, so I don’t account for needing time to stop and get coffee. Anyways, I was headed to the bus stop, I live near the grocery outlet, and catch the Bus in front of SJCR. As I was a block away from my stop I realized I might have enough time to get some coffee but wasn’t sure if they would have a line in SJCR, when I got there I saw they didn’t. I quickly ordered my iced americano, waited outside so I could see if my bus would be coming, then when I saw that it was, I told the cute red headed cashier I wasn’t gonna be able to grab my coffee and would possibly grab it the next morning if that was okay. They said yes and started saying something else but I walked out for fear that I might miss the bus. As I was waiting for the bus I see someone out of the corner of my eye as I was being a loser with my phone glued to my hand roaming the inter webs. It was the lovely red headed girl cashier walking up with my coffee! It was such a pleasant surprise and completely unexpected. They weren’t above and beyond what they needed to. I feel bad only tipping 1 $ now lol but my coffee was only 2.75 I believe. Regardless I was completely caught off guard and appreciate so much that they were willing to do that for me. Now I will be able to start my day with some energy. Being a restaurant manager of a busy restaurant and also being a cook of another busy restaurant I rarely see any sleep. Especially now that I have been taking the bus. So thank you cute red headed cashier girl :) you are the best. Keep up the good work! If you’re the owners of SJCR or manager, make sure to keep this young lady around, meh I’m young myself but anyways. She’s a valuable employee who did more then she had to in the name of customer service. THATS rare. Lol Thanks guys!

Love this neighborhood treasure of a roaster/coffee house. We now have four coffee houses within two blocks in St Johns, but this is the place for an amazing coffee, excellent roasted coffee to go, a warm hello and hand shake from Mount, the owner, or conversation with his staff and crew. This is a weekly stop for my home brew and their bagels are sensational. Can’t recommend enough, if you have not been give them a shot, or pick them up at Seasons or Green Zebra.

Even before I moved to St. Johns this roaster was on my radar. I don’t drink coffee everyday, more like 4 – 5 days a week. When I do, I want a good cup. No canned grounds for me! No siree! Anyway, after my first night in my new place I walked here to get a bagel and coffee. They have Spielman bagels with their own cream cheese flavors. I opted for the caramelized onion, which is mighty tasty. I got a large coffee to go with it. They offer a variety of single origin and whole bean blends to try there, or take home and brew. I haven’t been disappointed with any of their coffees, and I’ve been going regularly. They offer free delivery to a few close zip codes. I haven’t taken advantage of the service as of yet. They roast Monday, and deliver Wednesday. I have to mention how nice and welcoming the owner Mount is. They have punch cards for their coffee drinks and beans, so it pays to be a regular!

I guess giving 5 stars is redundant because of all the other reviews but they definitely deserve it! My husband and I are visiting from Florida and we love Portland. This is a prime example of why– the warm smiles when we walked in, to the friendly and helpful people who preemptively told me about other dairy-free options for my drink when I asked for soy(I have bad allergies), and the delicious coffee all make for a great experience. Obviously the people here are just effortlessly hip, but not in a way that’s intimidating, but more of a refreshing sense of individual expression. There’s also a cool area of flowers and succulents for sale in the corner. I love the long community table, and the fact that you can see in the back to the roasting of the beans. Can’t wait to come back!

I love this place. Their coffee is the best I’ve had in St. Johns. The ambiance is rustic and delightful. I love that they have a small flower shop in the corner — it brings nature inside in a way you don’t usually get to experience in your local coffee shop — and the service is always friendly. The only thing I would add is more seating. Really lovely and worth a visit.

THE coffee shop in St Johns. It’s that simple for me. They are open seven days a week and they open at 8 on Saturday when the rest of the neighborhood is still closed. Hopefully they will fix their hours on the website and here on Unilocal. If you read reviews from ’14, you may get the idea that this place is in a garage, and it was! But that was then, and this is now… personally, I hate waiting 5 minutes for a frigging espresso. I understand the theoretical importance of latte art to some, but in the morning, I need my dang espresso NOW! Well, my dog and I walk in, and we get my espresso and his dog treat ASAP. The quality is first rate, but hey, this is Portland: the coffee had better be top notch! For my morning business though, it’s gotta be delivered promptly. These guys get it. The selection of bagels(I’m a native NY’er, and honestly, they sell holey round bready things, but there aren’t any actually top notch bagels in PDX due to our water, so …) is good, and their cream cheeses are fantastic. My tip: the caramelized onion cream cheese. mmmh! They also stock their entire range of coffees and you can get any of them brewed up prior to purchase of beans. I love it. Coffee words in the descriptions on the packaging don’t really mean a whole lot to me, and being able to sit down and drink a cup or two is a much better way for me to commit to a new bean or roast. At St Johns Coffee Roasters, you get the whole package: great coffee from an efficient coffee shop with tables, pastries and toasted bagels and they share space with a fantastic florist. Since they opened their larger tasting room, my life improved. Great coffee, fast & friendly service and it does provide a mellow vibe(the awesome sent of the flowers perchance?) rather than an industrial grind.

Best coffee in town. Even though I work for an other coffee shop in town. When I buy coffee this is where I go and I purchase my beans for home here too. The flavor of their blends, and single origin roasts are very nice. Their roasting has complexity and balance(not just light fruit, or burnt toast like others in town)

Walked in with a caffeine craving, walked out with a fantastic cup of freshly brewed coffee. Every time I come here I’m always greeted with a smile, quick service, and the finest cup of coffee in the neighborhood. Haven’t been disappointed yet! And a fantastic flower shop? Couldn’t be better.

This place is perfect it is a gem. A shiny bright diamond that fits right into the uniqueness of St. John’s. The proprietor is handsome man called Mount Burns who will always remember your name. Mount Burns!!! How did you live up to a glorious name like that? I will tell you how, you run a place like this. It’s warm and it is friendly and sometimes I just sit up next to those awesome windows and stare at the top of the bridge and just let my mind run free. This is my happy place, my utopia. And for a bonus kicker there is Bestow. An awesome flower and plant shop run by the gorgeous Nyki. «I knew a girl named Nyki and I guess you could say she was a … Awesome florist». I don’t even like flowers and plants and now I have lots. So come see for yourself what Utopia is like. Oh and the Americano iced is da bomb. Dark Roast for life!!!

Dare I say it? Someone is sure to say«Hey, 1977 just called and wants its slang back,» but you know this place is mellow. When you walk in the door, you immediately«drink» in the calm and friendly atmosphere. You also get the fact that besides serving coffee, this is a real neighborhood shop doing their bit to make the world a better place. As I was walking in the front door, I noticed that they composted their coffee grounds in a box-like structure around their trees. I’m sure I’m probably not describing this correctly as I’m not well educated about composting, but that’s what it looked like to me. The coffee is the rich and smooth, rating right up there with Coava, one of my favorite coffees. I had an Americano and it was superb. My barista was friendly and chatted not only with me, but a couple of other folks without making me feel neglected at all. They do carry some pastries and they looked pretty tasty. They have an impressive assortment of coffees listed on their blackboard. I really liked that they had an honor system for purchasing coffee. You can drop your money in a box, pour your coffee, and either hang out or head on out. The shop is very clean and attractively decorated. One corner is taken up by a small«kiosk» that sells flowers. The name of the business is «Bestow» and the arrangements are lovely. What a great idea to share space with an up and coming small business. I didn’t have much time today to stay and drink my coffee, but I think this is a place to return and spend some time. I enjoyed the obvious community involvement(lots of posters hung up for community events) and the way this shop lives it beliefs while keeping it relaxed and fun. Definitely a keeper on the coffee-drinking list.
