It was my first visit to Southpark Seafood. I made a u-turn when I saw their Happy Hour menu in the window. I was happy to see the clam chowder, oysters, and cherry sangria on the menu. My $ 20 meal consited of a tasty beet salad as well. My favorite was their flavorfrul bacon and gnocchi added clam chowder. The serving size was small, but it left such an impression on me. I was impressed with the attentive friendly service. Also, I would have had another glass of sangria if my guy was paying. I hope he’s reading. Make ur way to Southpark soon. That sangria is calling my name.

Clams, mussels, salmon tartare, steelhead gravlax, and halibut – all were fabulous. Unique combination of flavors and textures and gorgeous presentation. Even though these are all«small plates,» two plates per person(as suggested by our waitperson) turn out to be a lot of food. Ultimately, prices turn out to be comparable to other high end Portland restaurants. On a very busy Tuesday evening, service was slow but very friendly – long wait between fresh oysters and the first of our six plates(three people). The newly designed dining space is light, open, and contemporary but, perhaps, a little too simple and«casual» in feel given menu prices. Nevertheless, we will return.

I judged this place a bit because it’s a bit of a tourist destination. I’m a local and felt above this place but amused my friends who wanted to go there. And then I had their brussels sprouts. OHMY. Those were a game changer. I immediately regretted my initial musings about this place. Didn’t my mom teach me to not judge a book but its cover? Shame on me. Food: Well, brussels sprouts. It’s worth mentioning again. I guess they change how they prepare it regularly but man, I can’t imagine it ever being bad after that experience. This might be a stretch but at this moment I think they were the best vegetable side I’ve had in the city(gasp!). Memorable. Otherwise I ate light and had a side beet salad. Perfectly tossed in a light dressing with ample goat cheese and perhaps pumpkin seeds. Scrumptious. Drinks: Again, judged the options before trying them thinking they were going to be overly sweet, poorly made and not creative. Wrong. I only had one but it was fantastic. Service: Yup, Judgy McJudgersons came out again assuming the server was young(true), from out of state(true) and didn’t know anything(very not true). She was wonderful and actually seemed to enjoy talking about the menu options and drink selections. On top of it all, we sat outside in the warm sunshine and people-watched. What a nice location! I look forward to another visit here!

Wonderful restaurant! Food was amazing and our waiter(Dave) was super friendly. Best clam chowder we’ve ever had! Such a nice array of food selections– especially fresh seafood options and the fish was cooked to perfection.

I don’t normally write reviews, but the experience we had here, I feel should be voiced. I used to be a server and there are times when I can understand why the service is poor, food is bad, etc. I could not find 1 excuse/reason to justify the poor service. The purpose of this review is to not steer anyone away, it’s solely to make aware of what is happening on the floor. Tuesday night dinner, not busy at all. The waitress had 2 tables including us in her section. 10 minutes for water(not exaggerating). At The corner of my eye I could see a waiter(not our server) flagging a buss boy to fill our cups. He came by and said our«server will be with us in just a moment». Another few minutes roll by and waitress comes to greet us, takes our drink orders. Tells us that there are no specials and whatever is on the menu is what they have.(Meanwhile I see a platter of oysters pass by and not one mention of oysters on the menu. My fault for not asking but I figured it would be at least be mentioned). She tells us she’ll give us more time to look at the menu(cool, maybe now things will get better) It was a drag to get our drinks, but we got them. We ordered the Octopus, Tuna tartare, Brussels Sprouts and King Salmon. She asked if we wanted to the Octopus and Tuna first, we said sure. Both came at a reasonable time(not really but I don’t have to be a brat). Octopus was delicious and so was the Tuna, highly recommend! We savored every bite and ate slowly to ensure we could also enjoy the Brussels sprouts to pair with the Octopus. Nope. Finished both way before our main course. (Btw, waitress never came by to ask if how the food was and or asked if we wanted more drinks. Again, honestly not exaggerating.) We ate our«appetizers» too fast I’m guessing because it took a good 20 minutes to get the King Salmon and Sprouts. Sprouts were real good, hot and amazing. King Salmon— wow. I feel like we got ripped big time. $ 26 for a small piece of Salmon in very cold cold sauce and wilted veggies. If this was Chopped the show, the chef would’ve gotten booted for the poor display of presentation and taste. If I could guess what happen. She forgot our last two orders and or let them sit under the heat in the kitchen until she finally noticed we still have not gotten our other dishes. Had the cook reheat the salmon on the grill and dumped it back in the plate with cold and wilted veggies. Could have been the day but very unfortunate that this had to happen to us.

My boyfriend and I stopped here on a whim on a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised to be seated within 10 minutes. The hostess was nice and the restaurant was still undergoing improvements. A small section of it was open for business and that section was already mostly full. We were seated in an area that had a long booth-like seat with individual chairs facing opposite. We sat pretty close to 2 other diners. It took a while for our waitress to greet us, and she was very friendly. It took a while for our drinks to be served. I had the halibut, which was small in portion for its price tag. It wasn’t the best or the worst I’ve had. While the experience wasn’t traumatizing in any way, I’m not sure it was enough to persuade me to come back and drop a larger chunk of my change there.

It was a beautiful day when we went, so we sat outside, which was really fun. My wife and I shared a fish and chips, which was delicious; some of the best fish I’ve had in a long time, and at a good price too.

Nice environment, pretty average noise level so its not a quiet, stuffy type establishment. Made the last day of Portland restaurant week so that was a plus… Unfortunately the service was sub par… Took too long to get my drinks and my order came out wrong… On the plus side, my correct order cane out pretty quickly. People on Unilocal kept raving about the chowder, but just because they added bacon and gnocchi doesn’t change the average taste… So, beside the fish on the wall, not much going for it here.

This is a review for dining month. Main course: We got the steelhead(it’s a breed of salmon /trout) cooked with kimchi fried rice and salted egg. Steelhead was cooked perfectly but the rice accompanying it was a bit mushy and to be honest the salted egg did not accompany the dish well. It was just too much salt. My other friends got the noodle dish which was very good! Appetizers: We picked the roasted Brussels sprouts, beet salad, clam chowder with gnocchi and shishito peppers. Brussels were amazing! But for those of us who picked the steelhead as a main course it caused a salt overload. But the Brussels were caramelized well and still had good bite. Beet salad was good very simple and fresh. Shishito peppers, man my buddy ordered this and literally got a giant plate of greasy peppers that were not spicy at all. It’s a shame because shishito when grilled right are mighty tasty and smokey. Clam chowder with gnocchi was delicious I loved the gnocchi it added a nice touch.

I just realized I have not updated my review for South Park from several years ago when I first experienced this restaurant. Before going to the art museum I had a lovely lunch with a friend here and I am hoping to go back again before the end of March to experience their Portland Dining Month menu. They are currently being remodeled though you would not know it. My friend was very impressed with the restaurant. Our sweet server was cleaning the table next to us and dropped butter on my friend’s coat. She was beyond sweet, offering a dry cleaning voucher… kept coming back to help clean it… brought us cookies to go… kept asking to help more. She apologized and then some. Now our food — incredible! Their clam chowder is amazing and I ordered steelhead which was cooked to perfection. Oh, and those cookies? Dear loooord… nom…

Followed Unilocal recommendations as a tourist and found one of the best Clam chowders I’ve had. Being from the Bay Area there are plenty of seafood joints with decent clam chowder so wifey and I are pretty picky. Both of us stop talking when we put a spoon full of chowder in our mouth. What just happen look on both our faces? Gnocchi in the clam chowder, plus the whole clam with shell to slurp the salty bacon goodness from? It didn’t stop there, the chocolate platter for dessert put my wife into speechless mode again. Hahahaha! Service good but sometimes or waitress disappeared because she was tending too many tables I think.

If there’s one thing that really sticks out in my mind about our visit here, it’s SALT. My wife and I went here for a pre-show dinner having never tried it before nor heard anything about it; it just happened to be in the right place, right time. That said we didn’t really know what to expect, but here’s what we got: My wife started with the Chicories salad, I the Pickled Vegetable Fritto Misto. Both were good; the(pickled) vegetables deep fried(I vaguely remember the waiter telling me this, but was already too spaced out from the overly thorough explanation of their sustainability practices and membership in the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program. Oh yeah, Portland). The aioli had a nice overall flavor, but was definitely a little heavy on the salt. The fried veggies were the same; decent overall flavor but salt was significantly noticeable. My wife then had the Salmon Collar and I had the Bigoli Pasta. Nowhere was it mentioned(in print or verbally) that this is in fact a HALF collar. Again, deep fried(see explanation above) the fish was good if not a little fatty, and due to my wife’s dietary constraints, she was unable to partake in the jus that accompanied it(nightshades), but a finger dip taste again returned salty results. My $ 18 pasta dish was sold by the waiter as a «shareable» portion. What I received(and this is relative) is a child’s size serving equal to about 4 adult mouthfuls, and no, I didn’t share. This is the one dish of our meal that I would say had the«third bowl of porridge» amount of salt. The bread we had to accompany our meal was really tasty, if(again) a little salty and it would have been nice had it been warmed(just sayin’). Service was very efficient(sans menu explanation) and friendly, and the cocktails were averagely potent(gin martinis to be exact). Long story short, maybe not the best place for those with high blood pressure.

Honestly, I’m disappointed. You will be too, if you expect your entrees to be bigger than appetizer size. Our waiter said they’d switched to a «European model»… Yeah, ok. And like, uh, a sex organ, if it’s small, it damn well better be amazing, and this food was not amazing. It was ok at best. My scallop tortellini was overly salted, although the breadcrumbs were nice, and my friend’s salmon was under salted and the rice overlooked. The best part of our meal was the bread. Our waiter was ok, but rather humorless and not super warm– it was obvious that he’d rather be doing something else on Valentine’s Day. Not my best introduction to Portland!

Good god the food here is salty! Portions are tiny, flavor was meh, clams not fresh, pasta like plastic. I’m not sure what happened here last night, but all 6 of my friends and I had overly salted, mediocre food. We ate it because sending back 10 – 12 dishes seemed like a terrible thing to do. I would not come back, the only redeeming thing were the grilled oysters and the complementary dessert for my friend’s birthday. Super disappointed by their Unilocal reviews.

I enjoyed my meal at this downtown Portland location. I had smoked trout and pork belly appetizers. The servings were not overly generous but the food was great. I had the Sole as an entrée. Portion sizes leave a little to be desired but again the quality was there. As a single guest seated at a two person table I didn’t receive the greatest level of attention. I knocked one star down for that as I felt priority was given to larger tables. I’m not high maintenance and don’t need to be tendered to but do ask that a waiter checks in with me every now and again. I would go back however.

Second time eating here earns this place 4.5 stars. First time wasn’t as tight, so I’m rounding this down to a 4, though that’s not quite fair. 5of us dined through much of that day’s dinner menu. Excellent service, wonderful cheese board, very well executed petrale sole, local salmon and a pleasing salad of chicories, bough one of us found it dressed with too much acid, and they kindly remade it. The pictures will do a better job. If you like fish, this kitchen handles it well.

The Korean Fish Stew was very flavorful and fresh, but the portions were small. But that’s not why I’m giving Southpark Seafood one star. No, the low score is for their sexist seating policy. My friend and I ate lunch there today. We were walked back to a table right next to the bathroom when there were approximately ten other tables open. I asked for a table by the window and was told that was«reserved». After we sat down, I noticed that our former table had been reseated with two women. On the other side of the entrance to the bathroom was… you guessed it… another table full of women! If you want a decent table, bring a guy with you or better yet, don’t go at all. I spoke with management and he assured me that this wasn’t their policy. I said I won’t be back.

This place is known for seafood so decide to pay a visit during my Portland trip. We arrived early as we both had no breakfast in the morning. The ambiance is hip and modern, very comfortable environment to enjoy a romantic night out with significant one. As for the food itself, my entrée oyster lunch is underwhelming, it is fresh alright, but portion size is kind of pathetic. I could hardly see any meat in two of them. For the price, it wasn’t worth it. My gf’s cod was nicely seasoned and well executed, so she was happy. Dessert is the redeeming point as profiteroles are not too sweet and they were baked properly. Service is friendly and our server frequently came to check on us. In general, I find that service in West Coast is better than Toronto. It’s a good experience overall but I definitely would not recommend oyster lunch here.

Came here about two years ago(yes a late review) but the food was delicious. Pricey and definitely a classier place, we visited during Christmas time and was greeted with delicious food, warm service and a comfortable atmosphere. the best thing about the food here are the little details in each dish other than the main protein bringing all of the flavours together but favourite of the night was definitely the extremely tender duck breast!

Dessert was a party! I came here with my family after a concert downtown, and we ordered a few different desserts. It was a fun and delicious experience. We ordered their Panna Cotta, Chocolate Board, and a few other items. I’ve never had panna cotta before, actually, so I don’t know what to compare it to, but it was creamy, gelatinous, tart, and sweet. The Chocolate Board is a must try if you love chocolate. It’s like carries various chocolaty flavors and textures, from sweet to bitter and crunchy to creamy. I only had dessert, but the rest of their menu looked amazing and I will definitely be returning to try their seafood. Service was great, friendly, and comfortable. The restaurant is nice with mood-lighting. You don’t need to dress fancy, but I wouldn’t come in shorts and a t-shirt either. Add this place to your list of things to try in Portland.

Came here for dinner and was very excited because we were craving seafood, and this was recommended as a specialty! Based on previous Unilocal reviews, I ordered the smoked fish board. Loved it! And love the presentation on a wooden cutting board. I was head over heals over the beet salad with Gorgonzola, persimmons and watercress also. My mom ordered the halibut which was delicious with the sauce. Our waitress was very friendly, though service was a tad slow. I really enjoyed the food here, great bar atmosphere too next door!(I checked the bar out previously for happy hour; $ 5 bites and drinks, can’t beat it!)

A nice, clean joint. They cook a mean steak, and the Lazy Greyhounds kept comin’. As they should. Nothin’ really standout about the place until a nice older woman seated at the bar had said bar crash down from underneath her– apparently there’s a breakaway section that maybe shouldn’t be leaned on. Scared the piss outta the whole place. Handled well enough and tidied up quick, although I’m more inclined to give the poor gal(now soaking wet in her own two glasses of white wine(!)) my full attention instead of employees talkin’ out how it happened. Like it somehow makes it okay because we now, after the fact, realize we might not should maybe seat folks there. I mean, she was fine– and a true champ– but still. But seriously, rare steaks and Lazy Greyhounds.

I’m a sucker for a good burger. If a few Unilocalers rave about a restaurant’s burger, or even if a place promotes their own self-proclaimed«famous» burger, it’s really hard for me to resist. While visiting downtown Portland for a few days, even in a foodie town like Portland, I chose to chow down on two well-reviewed burgers: the Laney Black Label Burger from Southpark Seafood vs. the Flat Top Burger from Imperial. Which did I enjoy more? Hands down, I preferred Southpark’s. You wouldn’t think that a seafood restaurant would have a great burger but I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Oh, did I mention that the Smoked Steelhead was also amazing? And that the Clam Chowder was even amazing-er? And that the Spicy Shrimp and Grits was the amazing-est? Usually, a restaurant offers only one or two decent options during Happy Hour, if any at all. The fact that we had 4 different dishes in varying degrees of amazingness made this the best meal we had during our 4 days in Portland. The fact that each of these dishes costs $ 5 during Happy Hour was, you guessed it, AMAZING! The staff here was friendly, seating was plentiful during Happy Hour, and plating and presentation was appealing. Adds up to 5 stars in my book!

Late night happy hour review only. Offered everyday 10pm– midnight. Came here for late night happy hour on a Saturday and was pretty impressed by the selections. $ 5 for everything listed on their happy hour menu which includes well drinks, wine, and sangria. For food, the best option is the burger with fries which is normally $ 13. They don’t cut down on the portion just because its HH either, they give you full size servings. my hubby got the burger and fries, i had the grilled asparagus and we shared the clam chowder. we both each had a class of their house red wine and a red sangria as well. everything was delicious and worth the $ 5/a plate. but i would never come here during regular hours to pay full price. the staff was nice and attentive, restaurant is clean and classy. my only complain was that it didnt have enough protein options :(

I was looking for excellent seafood, and the bellhop at my hotel directed me to this place. One of my plates was spectacular, and the other two left something to be desired. Walked in, nice atmosphere, not over the top. Greeted by a friendly waitress. Started with the braised calamari salad. This was the least impressive of the plates. It was mostly greens and few calamari, and on top of that the flavor was lacking. Just didn’t do much for me. Wild king salmon. This was a very good dish. Salmon was cooked perfectly and tasted great. There was a mustard cream underneath, and some peas scattered on the side. Main complaint here is that the dish cost $ 33, and I barely got anything other than the salmon. Add some mashed potatoes or something! Some broccoli, more salmon… anything. Didn’t get what I paid for. Clam chowder — this was the winner. Amazingly rich and delicious broth, whole clams inside complemented by bacon and gnocchi. Fabulous. Overall this place was adequate. Mostly the calamari salad threw me off, along with the meager portion on the salmon plate combined with the really high prices. Food alone was definitely satisfactory and I’d be willing to return for another try if I were back in town.

Happy Hour everyday from 3 — 6 pm. I swear that their happy hour is a steal. Their happy hour items are limited, but the items that they do serve are top notch. We ordered a brick oven pepperoni pizza, which are pretty large for a happy hour item, 2 sets of oysters(3 per set), and a smoked steelhead board, which comes with some crackers and some picked vegetable. I really can’t pick a favorite as they were all good in their own way. The pizza is a thin crust and has a nice crunch to it when you eat. The oysters were chef’s choice and we luckily received the Kussu and Netarts oysters, both of which were phenomenal. I am such a sucker for fatty oysters. The oysters come with some type of pickled vegetable soaked in vinegar and a lemon. The vinegar was a bit much so be cautious when adding it. Last but not least, the smoked steelhead had the nice smokey flavor to it and was not overly dry. I really can’t pick a favorite out of the three things we ordered because they were all really good in my book. I’d definitely recommend this place during happy hour to anyone visiting.
