Don’t sit at the counter! The burgers and shakes here are great, fries mediocre, service usually passable but not tonight. Came with my daughter and we sat at the counter to avoid taking up a huge booth. Maybe a bad decision because it was like they couldn’t even see us. Took awhile to get our order, then we were paid almost no attention the rest of the visit. Finally got someone’s attention to ask for mustard and he said OK but then went to take the order at another table and never came back. No one ever brought the mustard and I’d finished my burger before anyone came within earshot for me to ask again. I don’t have high standards for service and have never before felt the need to leave a bad review. But come on Skyline. You have to at least try.

What an amazing place for breakfast. The food was great, service perfect, one portions just right. The menu calls to me to come back for lunch and dinner.

I’m glad this place is 3.5 stars. Unlike a lot of trendy, hyped restaurants in Portland, Skyline doesn’t try too hard. It’s just straight up burgers. No local grassfed beef or organic tomatoes or artisanal buns or whatever. I love the simplicity of it, and that it’s kept under-​hyped and low key. We’ve never had to wait to get a table, yet there is always a healthy amount of customers seated. As long as this stays a chill neighborhood joint, I will be a loyal customer.
The day Guy Fieri shows up with that diner show will be the death of this place.

Excited to try this restaurant been waiting to come here a long time. Waited for ever and the server was not only rude but she also forgot part of out order. We went back in to let her know and she acted as if we were lying. So crazy for her to act that way. If you don’t like her job then go somewhere else. Really disappointed in this place !

The previous time I came here i liked it.
The food was typical diner food, but good.
This time was not the same.
the waitress was very rude and uncwelcoming.

First time here. Would have been a cool place if we did not have a Rude waitress! Never coming back!!!

Adorable little joint, clean and nice people. Service was quick and simple, and the server was very pleasant. Went here with friends after a walk in Forest Park and enjoyed it a lot. Perfect when you’re in the mood for burgers and a shake! $ 5 burgers are a great deal (fantastic by the way).
One thing, bring cash! There is an ATM inside but always nice to avoid the fees :) Would definitely go back!

My first time going it was good and fresh I have no compliants but one. The fries could’ve been better but by the time I got home they were alittle stale but not that bad. I would go again i loved the burgers and the service was fast and the quality was not effected at all.

Had a large rat join us for lunch!
Told waiter he shrugged and said he would report to manager!!!

I’m only able to make it here every few years, but nothing ever changes.
The burgers are delicious. I mean honest to god one of the best I have ever had. From the bun to the meat to the condiments. It’s top notch. And the milkshakes are bomb.
I have never had bad service here. The staff are always nice. I’m never left waiting. For anything. They are very prompt. The food comes quick.
The prices won’t break your wallet either. The menu is super affordable.
This is quite possibly the best burger joint in Oregon. You should definitely go there if you have an opportunity.

Always a favorite when I visit Portland (been going here for at least 50 years). A quintessential remnant of days gone past (they used to even car hop service with a tray on your car window), but have kept the basic recipe for burgers and fries that did not have to be served super size and out of disposable containers. Burgers are just the right size with huge portions of veggies on top reducing the guilt factor over unhealthy eating. Just yummy. Fries are crispy and without fault. Split pea soup is home made and delicious. And service was (and always has been) great. Cash only, but they have an ATM in case you were not aware. Always a winner and a bit out of the beaten path, but in a great location near the superb trails of Forest Park.

Cash only. Kind of cool and retro vibe. Food is nothing great. Bland, thin burgers. Service is even less memorable. Get a shake, and everything is pretty forgivable.

First let me say I had a beer and fries, that’s it, I felt obligated. I was gonna have a burger, but during the long wait for service I looked around. I came up in an environment that stated that if you aren’t take care of the little things — how can I trust that the important things are getting done.
Sure a but judgmental, but never more true than in a restaurant. The waitress that greater us had an attitude that indicated either we were bothering her or she couldn’t care less about the service she was providing.
Looking around– the table was dirty. The napkin holder had dried ketchup smears all over it. The top was covered in obvious greasy finger prints and dust. The walls were grimy. The return air vent in the middle of the restaurant was caked with grease and dirt.
The fries were unremarkable and the beer was overpriced. I will never, never be back!!!

I’ve been eyeing this place for years. I’ve heard great things and was expecting so much more.
After 75 years I would expected a burger that was unequalled. it was OK and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
They get much better ratings from others, so maybe I hit them on a bad day, but I won’t be back.

The BBQ bacon cheeseburger was good, it doesn’t come with a side like we had thought it would. We also had the fish and chips, the fish was very bland; it tasted like store bought van de camp type fish filets. The little guy had a kids tuna and fries. The only thing he ate was the Oreo on top. The butter pecan milkshake was the highlight of the meal. The toys were a big plus to keep both kids happier during the meal.

Onion rings! Forget everything else. Best Onion rings ever ! :)

I don’t know why the sandwiches came on little side plates instead of in baskets.
I don’t know why they cut the burgers and hot dogs in half; it dries them out.
I don’t know why it took three tries to make light golden, not dark brown rings.
I don’t know why we weren’t offered the free refills we had been sold.
I don’t know why there was trash on the floor but employees standing around.
I don’t know why we weren’t checked on to see how we were enjoying our meals.
I don’t know why they don’t have hand cut fries; they are inexpensive and good.
I don’t know why we weren’t offered dessert.
I don’t know why we weren’t asked if we wanted our sides first.
I don’t know why we weren’t offered flavor options (found out later) in our pops.
I don’t know why we weren’t told of the cash only rule until we handed over a card.

It’s tradition for us to have lunch or dinner here before embarking on an adventure at the Audubon Society.
The burgers are great — especially the larger ones for the ever-​growing, always hungry teenager.
It’s just too bad you have to remember to order a basket of fries.

Who Only Takes Cash Anymore???
Took the family all the way up to the top of the hill to have supper, only to find out that this establishment only except cash. Perhaps you should think about using Square. Having your own ATM on site is a really good way to make extra revenue, as well as lose customers.

Cash only! Parking is a little dicey.
However, with that being said this is a cool, funky little diner that sits maybe 50?
Can you believe I have been in the PDX metro area for what seems like an eternity and this one of those out of the way places that I just haven’t had a chance to check out. In fact, I was shamed into coming here because a good friend of mine who moved here from Michigan told me about the great fries and shakes at this places and the burgers were delicious as well.
That was enough for me – It was a rainy, dreary, and crapalicious Portland afternoon so we decided to all jump in the Das Boat and head up Skyline.
Between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM was a perfect time to go – I hear there is STO on the weekends especially at classic meal time. There wasn’t much of a crowd at all. Our server was laid back, knew the menu, and funny.
The food is standard diner fare — homemade potato salad, burgers, shakes, fries, and TATER TOTS!!! Oh yell yes! I was happy to see TOTS on the menu.
Breakfast served until 11 AM on weekends. The French toast looked like my grandmothers — and so did the pancakes. Next time — I am so checking this place out for breakfast!
Now check this out — Aside from Grilled Cheese Sandwiches they also serve on their menu fried egg sandwiches– I understand if you are wrinkling your nose and making a face but if you are a fan of the fried egg sandwich you have come to the right place. While I personally didn’t have one this trip the table over from me did — and the noises that were coming from that table were the sounds of lovemaking — oh yes indeed, they were one with their FES!
I am so ordering that next time.
We didn’t stick around for pie — we were full. The burgers are ginormous! I gather their pies are delicious as well.
On one hand I am kicking myself in the ass for waiting so long to try this place out — but so very happy to have made such a spectacular find — what a treasure this little place is.
