Great customer service, and good attention to detail. I hired Matt because I had purchased a new dishwasher from Lowe’s. Lowe’s had charged me $ 130 for the installation, but when they got to my house, they informed me that I would need a bunch of other work done, and by the time they were done quoting me everything, it was going to me over $ 500 extra, including having to buy a different dishwasher because they claimed the one I bought didn’t fit (even though I had brought my measurements in when I made the purchase). I found Matt on here, and I’m beyond satisfied with the work he did. He charged me less than half of what Lowe’s was talking about and he got it to fit no problem, did the wiring, connecting it to the plumbing, and installed a wood panel that matched my cupboards so there wasn’t a gap and now it looks like the dishwasher was installed when the rest of the kitchen was remodeled. To add to all this, after a couple weeks, it looked like a piece of the dishwasher was coming loose. Matt came for free and quickly fixed it. I’ve had no problems since. I would highly recommend him for any general contracting needs.

After a 24 year struggle to find a contractor who does excellent work, is reasonable, and actually does what s/​he says s/he’s going to do when s/​he promises, I feel like I struck gold with Matt.
I actually hesitated to write this review out of fear that he’d get too busy, but he’s such a nice fellow, I was obligated to give him his due! You can hire him, just don’t keep him so busy I’ll never be able to get him back to my projects…

Matt’s the man. My only regret is that we didn’t know about him sooner or we would have used him for the entirety of our project. Honest, communicative, fast, and knowledgeable. I know we will use him in the future and I recommend Simple Plan to anyone.

I’m very impressed with the quality of Matt’s work. When he makes an appointment, he arrives on time, comes prepared with all the tools he will need, gives well organized quotes on his work, prices his work reasonably, doesn’t waste time chatting or running out to get coffee. His work is precise and professional looking. He cleans up after himself and the job is done right. Also, he knows how to communicate via email so it’s not a problem getting ahold of him.
We had him re-​grout our bathtub and kitchen sink and install a new kitchen faucet with a working sprayer. He had good advice on what to look for when buying the faucet and took great care with the caulk to make sure it was straight and exactly where it needed to be. Then he left aftercare instructions so the grout had the proper drying time before we used the sink or tub.
I highly recommend him for good, reliable, honest handyman work!

Matt is a life savor. 2÷19÷2014 at 10am in the morning a wishy washy company delivered an executive desk and printer table. The company told my 64 year old mother that she would be getting help to put the desk and table together. They left the two boxes in her room and said it was not their job to put it together and it was the company she bought it from responsibility. After spending about $ 1000.00 at the place she bought the stuff from they wanted her spend another $ 100.00 to come put it together. My mom was in tears. I tried starting the printer table but wow it was only pictures and Ill admit I am not good with stuff like that. I am a huge fan on Unilocal when finding anything. So I have preached to my mother about using Unilocal to look for stuff. My mom found simple plan construction and called Matt. Matt was able to come over that afternoon (we got lucky he had openings) and worked a few hours on putting the two things together. Matt cleaned up after himself (and the mess I left, nice of him) and he was very informative about proceeding with anything before he did it. Thank you again Matt for helping us out in a pinch, we will be contacting you again in the future.

Matt is a real professional. He shows up on time, is very organized, and cleans up after himself. His work is meticulous and careful. We had him install a new stove vent fan, which required putting a hole to the outside through the cedar siding, building out a housing for the exhaust pipe, in addition to installing the vent itself. He did a great job with the drywall and painting and the whole installation is immaculate; it looks like the house was built that way. Excellent work.

As newcomers to Portland, we were afraid that we’d have to go through a string of yahoos who called themselves contractors before we found someone who would do a decent job at a fair price. Luckily we were referred to Matt at Simple Plan Construction early on in the process. Matt is a meticulous craftsman who does what he says he’s going to do when he says he’s going to do it. He has done a number of jobs for us, some requiring permits, some just handyman tasks, and just when we think we can’t be more impressed, he goes and blows our socks off with another fine bit of work. City inspectors always leave with a smile on their faces when Matt is on the job. Matt does an astounding job of patching drywall – one of the jobs he did for us entailed cutting a hole in the kitchen ceiling that extended all the way across the room and when he was finished, you couldn’t tell that it had ever been touched. He even went through all the doors in our 80 year old house and made sure that they latched properly.
The slogan on Matt’s business card reads, «Wood — Tile — Integrity.» He hasn’t done tile for us, but we can certainly vouch for the wood and the integrity.
