Scoop Handmade Ice Cream

Their waffle cone is better than Salt & Straw’s — BOOM! I said it. It’s a little flakier, a little more sugary in a sugar cone way and it’s not so crunchy that I want to cry if it jabs in the cheek in the wrong way. It was the best accompaniment to their ice cream so I recommend you splurge!
The Salted Caramel ice cream is AWESOME! Holy god. It’s so rich but in the best way possible. So enjoyable on a hot summer day. It’s not overtly salty, but leans more on the rich, deep brown caramel flavor. One scoop was plenty!
The next time I’m coming over to the NE42nd food carts, I’m going to see if I can get a split scoop because Salted Caramel would go great with chocolate or espresso.

My favorite ice cream in Portland or anywhere. The oatmeal ice cream is so amazing! Not too sweet & full of texture. I got my pregnancy cravings fulfilled here!
It’s a bit tucked away in the back of this food cart pod, but so worth finding! I only wish they were located closer to my house!

I love Scoop! 5 solid stars. Don’t be fooled by the itty bitty food truck, they have one of the best salted caramel ice cream in town. They have a wide selection, my personal favorite is the oatmeal and brown sugar. They also have unique flavors like PDX carpet. You can get it in a cup, cone, or waffle. 1 scoop, 2 scoop, or 3 scoops. I always get 3 scoops ;) Don’t have to wait long, not like that other ice cream place (salt n’ …)

Best ice cream ever! We found them on Unilocal and traveled a ways to their truck. It was worth the wait. My girl loves their Salted Caramel and I love their Chocolate and Vanilla Bean. We had to get a pint to go of course. Went to Salt and Straw a few days earlier and was disappointed. Scoop, when I come back to Portland soon, I’ll be seeing you.

The ice cream was actually was pretty decent, well the first half anyways. Then I realized that the bottom half was full (and I mean FULL) of freezer burn icicles. So $ 3 worth of my ice cream tasted like disgusting, terrible, burnt frozen bleh. And here’s the thing, I understand ice cream is going to get those crystals on top of it, it’s happened to my ice cream at home. But if I’m paying 2.50 a scoop, then you can scrape those off and give me the ice cream underneath. I thought maybe I was being too harsh, but then I realized, ice cream is all they serve! If you decide to go, be wary.

First time trying out this place and it’s delicious! I got the Oatmeal & brown sugar and espresso. Creamy and not overly sweet. First time having Oatmeal actually in my ice cream and it is perfect. This should be my morning breakfast from now on

Wanted to try a new ice cream spot as I have been going to Salt and Straw way too much this summer. Did some searching and wanted to try Scoop.
The nice thing about the location is that it is located amongst a lot of food trucks so if you craving something savory before the sweet then you’re in the right place. We had some Korean fusion which I shall be reviewing later but I will skip to dessert first.
My friend and I decided to order Cookies n Cream and Espresso ice cream respectively. Out of the two I would have to say that I enjoyed the cookies n cream a lot more. I had the right amount of chocolate and a healthy amount of cookie/​Oreo bites in the scoop that we had. Reminded me of the same flavor that is served at Bubbie’s Ice Cream in Hawaii. As for the Espresso, I enjoyed the flavor as well as the texture of the coffee beans mixed in the ice cream but it just didn’t top the cookies n cream. They have rotating flavors but keep the normal chocolate, vanilla, etc.
Prices are ok for a little bit smaller portion per scoop.

5 – 5.50 for two
and somewhere around 7 for three scoops.
If you are in the area for lunch/​dinner and don’t want to make an extra trip for dessert I definitely recommend coming here and grabbing a scoop (pun intended).

Yes, they have PDX carpet ice cream (and it’s great, and very minty; those who are ‘meh’ about mint need not apply). But you know what else they have? Salted. Caramel.
I love salted caramel anything with every fiber of my likely-​cholesterol-​clogged heart. And Scoop’s salted caramel did not disappoint.
First, it is salty. Not in a ‘oh no, there goes the Morton salt girl spilling salt all over stuff’ way, but in a way that you can definitely taste it and it is a perfect counterbalance to the sweetness of the caramel and the rich fattiness of the ice cream. I only got one scoop (and one scoop is still a lot of ice cream), but if I hadn’t just had breakfast I know that a second scoop of that salted caramel ice cream would have been just fine.
And oh, the waffle cones. If they’re baking, you’re buying them, because that waffle smell wafting from this little truck is nigh irresistible.

I had been dreaming of lemon sorbet for a week and coming up short everywhere. Just found this excellent Meyer lemon sorbet, vegan, served in compostable cup. Delicious, affordable and she is so nice! Looking forward to more!

Why not try something different for National Ice Cream day. Anyone can go and wait in the lines at Salt & Straw, especially when it’s 97 degrees outside, but I wanted to choose a place I hadn’t tried their ice cream at and Scoop was it. A La Carts has a good selection of food and I ate a meal at a different spot there but I wanted to try this PDX Carpet ice cream. What is it? Mint chocolate chip ice cream (with spirulena added for the correct color) with cranberries and Oregon hazelnuts. A portion of the ice cream order was even going to a charity.
I know of at least two locations for the Scoop carts, this one and one up at the Rose City food park on NE Sandy. The couple times I’ve passed that one, they’ve had a limited selection of ice cream. As for the taste? It was pretty good. Cool mint with crunchy hazelnuts, the tang of cranberries and there is never anything wrong with chocolate. Lots of good textures and a large scoop that I had to down quickly before the heat could take it away from me, that or I’d end up wearing part of it.
The woman encouraged me to Instagram a photo to possibly win a free scoop, I don’t think I won.: (but it was a good shot.
Anyways, good ice cream and I’ll be back to try other flavors soon.

So good. So many flavors. You get to try them all and try them a second time and they totally don’t mind! They are super sweet and friendly. Everything is made by the owner, who used to work «in the vanilla industry.» So For their vanilla they use the best in the world, «Madagascar Vanilla.» Maybe they just sold me onthe pitch, but it was pretty dang good!
I got a milkshake, the gold and white (salted caramel+vanilla) and oh my gosh. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! I can’t wait to go back!

So good! I had the strawberry ice cream with a fresh made waffle cone. The lady who served us was very nice and offered samples. My husband had the salted caramel ice cream and the hazelnut ice cream. The hazelnut was delicious but the salted caramel was a bit too salty for me, for lack of a better term. Great local place though!

Since Scoop’s switch in ownership, I’ve seen nothing but improvement in the quality and consistency of their handmade local ice cream that actually incorporates local ingredients and doesn’t just talk about it. Skip the line to boring, unimaginative flavors at Salt and Straw and head over to this great little cart! I’m especially diggin’ their seasonal flavors and sorbets. 1 star off for the inconsistency in service. Some days you get an especially nice and friendly scooper/​barista, other times you might get a standoffish angry person who ruins your experience. I equate happiness with ice cream, so I hope this improves with the new changes as well! Looking forward to what Scoop does next! My favorite ice cream!

Scoop Handmade Ice Cream is definitely on the same level as many of the other Portland artisan ice creameries. In any other city, there would probably be a line down the block because they make some interesting flavors; but here in Portland, not to detract from how delicious their ice cream is, these places are a dime a dozen, so you really can’t go wrong. Also, not only is their ice cream handmade, but their waffle cones are too!
You should definitely try before you buy. I tried the Thai Iced Tea, Strawberry Balsamic, and Fair Trade Chocolate. All three were fantastic so judging from that, I’m pretty sure all of their other flavors are solid. It was a tough decision, but I went with the Thai Iced Tea and was not disappointed. I recommend this place to anyone who wants good ice cream, and doesn’t want to wait in a Salt & Straw line.

This was a cute little ice cream cart my friends & I came across during our stay in Portland. The boyfriend & I shared a scoop of banana and chocolate chip and it was delicious! You could really taste the banana flavor which made it feel like it was healthy ;)
What’s cool is that they had vegan flavors (coconut based ice creams!) So there’s something for everyone.

nom nom nom. I had the salty caramel with some local vegan chocolate sauce on top. WOAH– it was an assault to my taste buds… but in a way where I want it to happen again. A bit too salty and caramelly for my husband, though on first few tastes he definitely had enjoyed it too… It was just an overload for him after that.
That said, I will definitely be back again to try the other items. Because I can’t help myself to sweets and handmade ice cream. I wanted to tip more but the cost is definitely at artisan level already (if you know what I mean). But definitely try it out! Friendly lady works here and the stuff is yum.

Oh wow! Portland has some great ice cream brick and mortar shops, but a fantastic ice cream cart?! Look no further to satisfy your sweet tooth! The owner was awesome, friendly, offered samples, and stayed open for customers in line 30 min after closing (working by herself, I might add).
Okay, the important stuff now… Thai Iced Tea flavor — amazing. Bourbon walnut — wonderful. Salted caramel — hands down the best I’ve ever had! The waffle cone was also delicious.
Also, not only was the owner nice after closing, she also gave me a sample and split one scoop between two flavors with a genuine smile.
Negatives — absolutely none! Satisfaction all the way. Rock on!

The flavors were definitely unique, but most of the ice creams I tried were kind of icy, maybe a by product of a hot day and opening the freezer too many times. It seemed the butter fat content was not as high as Cloud City or Salt N Straw, but still decent. I especially liked the ginger triple threat, but unfortunately the girl serving had no idea what was in the ice cream. It would be good to know why it’s called triple threat – dark chocolate shavings, ginger snaps, and maybe pieces of ginger/​candied ginger?

Not crazy combinations here, but simplicity at it’s finest. The scoop food cart serves excellent and very creamy ice cream options with friendly staff. I was able to sample different unique flavors of my interest, and found that even some that were not so out there, still were very delicious and caught my attention.
I definitely recommend this place for a simple scoop of excellent flavor options. I went with the marionberry and salted caramel, and Scoop has the best salted caramel ice cream I have ever experienced.

I got two scoops: one salted caramel and the other Madagascar vanilla. The salted caramel was a little too salty for me. The vanilla was wonderful. Creamy with flecks of vanilla bean throughout.
This place is better than Salt & Straw in my opinion.

Ice cream and Portland are like peanut butter and jelly. There are just too many «unique» ice cream places to choose from. This cart is not a bad option. They have some unique flavors and some classic flavors. My friend really likes the salted caramel, I happen to like the marionberry, when they have it. There are ice cream bars for those interested in chocolate dipped delights. The cart has non-​consistent hours, and they’ve taken way the smoothie option. Boooo!
Bonus: they serve coffee…

Please, scoop me up and take me to Scoop ice cream! I have to thank Danni D. for her high recommendation when the warmest summer hit Portland in years. The oatmeal and brown sugar was my first taste and I was instantly hooked. The trail hunter espresso is probably my favorite in terms of ice cream. The raspberry and habanero sorbet which is limited is definitely my top sorbet of choice. The sweet and spice is the perfect batch.
I even brought my dad here before watching a movie. He enjoyed the simple flavors of chocolate and vanilla that were available. As picky as my dad is about his ice cream, I got him hooked so a major victory on my end. Other friends I’ve introduced the past few months have continued to go back time and time again. The rotation of various flavors help keep the cart fresh and unique to try out new flavors.
They also sell ice cream bars in various venues such as the famous Hollywood Theatre. I convinced the managers they should give this place a try and it has been a huge success. They are very easy to work with and simply love supporting local businesses. The service is super friendly, fast, and quick. I don’t like waiting in lines for ice cream — this place I have never had a problem. The hours are convenient along with the option of using plastic instead of cash for payment. As long as they are around, they will be my first choice for my ice cream fix!
