DON’T buy their extended warranty plans.
They will not honor them. Or won’t be able to ‘find’ you in their system. I have three lil boys (ages 5, 7 & 9) who got Mechataurs for Christmas. Grandma bought the extended warranties for all of them. They didn’t work out of the box. We tried to return them, to get a store credit to buy something for them that did work. They can’t ‘find’ us. Then after 30 minutes of trying to find us, viola, we were there, but they only had a record of 2 being purchased. We have really upset little boys because of the ineptness of Radio Shack Extended Warranty.
Again, buy beware — DO NOT buy extended warranty. All you’re doing is paying more for the product up front and will have no recourse after the fact.

I purchased a pair of headphones for my son for Christmas. At the suggestion of the salesperson I purchased a protection plan for $ 3.99. In return I would be able to return the headphones and receive a gift card to Radio Shack to purchase new ones.
As expected with many teenagers, the headphones broke. One side didn’t emit sound anymore. We went to the store and were told to sign something and a gift card would be in the mail within 7 days.
7 days, 14 days, almost 26 days later we receive a claim form and a Fed Ex air bill. No gift card. After being told the gift card would arrive, the useless headphones were put in the garbage where they belong. Now the claim form is requesting we send the broken headphones to receive a replacement. No one ever mentioned this. Of course we no longer have them because we were promised a gift card to replace them. There was no caveat that we would have to return the headphones to a claim center.
In light of the serious misrepresentation on all levels– beginning with the original sale I will never shop at Radio Shack again. There are too many reputable companies who will stand begin their word and deliver on their promises made to customers.

Pathetic customer service. I called to inquire if they had any of the iPhone 4 in stock. Guy who answered said they did and would save one for me. To be clear, I didn’t ask him to save one he just came up with that on his own. I said great I’ll be there in less then 2 hours. 1 hr later I arrive and ask for the iPhone that’s «being saved for me». Clerk: «who told you that?» Me: «you» The clerk goes on to tell me that they are now out. He didn’t sell it, but someone else did. When I asked to speak with the manager I was told he was on a conference call and couldn’t be disturbed. I walked out back, saw the manager, NOT on the phone and told him I wanted to discuss the customer service issue. He replied «if you don’t leave now i will call security.» Lame clerk. Lame manager.

It’s funny how fast technology changes. I pulled a five year old digital camera out of a drawer the other day to keep in the car as a backup. It’s a 3 megapixel, about the size of a toaster, and the weight of a curling stone.
I stopped into Radio shack to buy a compact flash memory card for my monster camera, and the smallest they had was 4 gigabyte, and I remember that this antique camera originally came with a 32 megabyte card.
I’m not sure this thing is going to know what to do with such a huge memory card, and I tell the kid behind the counter it might not work. He’s very cool about it and tells me to just bring it back if it doesn’t work.
Well, it didn’t, and I was back in about ten minutes and received a cheerful refund. The next time I need a memory card, I’ll make a point to buy it from this Radio Shack so this kid gets the sale.
