Powell Park

It’s a great park.
No, it’s not the fanciest park ever, not as nicely landscaped with ancient trees as some other parks in Portland, but yall are just spoiled if you need to rate this place as mediocre.
Yes, homeless people often sleep in the field here under a tree. Cause, you know, they don’t have a home. Cmon, Portland — have some compassion.
One of my favorite things about this park is the diversity. We live across the street and bring our baby girl here often to play on the swings — almost every time there are folks here from many other countries. It’s great to hear different languages spoken and to see lots of shades of little people playing games together and having fun.
I can’t help but speculate that some of you who rated this park lower are just a little creeped out by folks who aren’t as white as the rest of Portland. Now, I can’t prove that you’re racist… It’s just that Oregon has a totally racist history, and Portland is not exactly the most diverse of places.
And honestly, if you’re a racist tool, please stay away from the park where my daughter and her friends play.
If you’re comfortable with the reality that people from different backgrounds, cultures and economic statuses can hang out in a public place together, you’ll enjoy this park.
If you’re scared of diversity, please go somewhere else. I hear parts of Siberia are quite nice this time of year.

This park is a neighborhood staple– for families, singles, homeless, couples, and gatherings. It offers a reservable shelter for a larger gathering and sun /​rain coverage. A small but good play structure, with other at goodies: swings, big slide, merri-​go-​round, and monkey bars. It has a baseball diamond, basket ball courts and soccer field. Many a bball games go on at this park. I wish there were more picnic tables.
Lengthy of trees keep parts of the park shady and cool, while the fields are free to play sports in.
This IS NOT a dog park.

Fairly average park. Scary bathrooms. Too many crack heads. Bring your own toiletires.

Great, fun park to bring little ones. Lots of swings and such. Plenty of open area to picnic or frolic in the grass.

Great place for a post lunch stroll. Perfect size and location. You need to dodge the homeless nappers and dogs chasing frisbees and the garbage doesn’t get picked up near enough but the grass is green, the trees are beautiful and the park is really close to my office, hence the three stars.

My bad, I think my prior statements about this park were a little harsh. I have gone several times recently and realized, it’s a fine place for gettin’ yer exercise on. This park is a sports park for sure, with soccer, football, basketball, and paths. No tables, though, and as previously mentioned, not the cleanest park around, so bring your blankies if you’re gonna post up in the grass.
Minus what seems to be a riff-​raff congregation down at the West end, the rest of the park is fine. Keep in mind it’s still right on Powell, so it is not quite the serene setting of other parks nearby.

This is a large park, right on the edge of Powell Blvd. It’s ok, — it provides a baseball field, a basketball court, disabled access restrooms, picnic tables, a playground, a soccer field, and a volleyball court, and supports a local Ultimate Frisbee team. However, it feels sprawling, unplanned and the various parts feel unconnected. A good enough facility, but a little landscape design could have made it great.
