I’ve been buying slices of Portland Style cake and cheesecake from New Seasons and Fred Meyer for several years. I first I tried the Chocolate Porter Torte cake, and it was love at first bite. Everything from this bakery is delicious, and believe me, I’ve tried it all. At Thanksgiving my family raved about the pumpkin cheesecake with gingersnap crust. I also am quite fond of the Carmelita bars! The quality of ingredients, taste and textures of PSC’s products can’t be beat.

Warning: This cheesecake may be addictive and may ruin other types of cheesecakes for you. Most New Seasons locations carry Portland Style Cheesecake in their dessert counter. They often have both slices and whole cakes, or can order them. I have purchased dozens of slices and a few whole cakes from New Seasons. I’ve also ordered cakes directly from the bakery. This location is really just a kitchen where they bake the cakes. If you want to just grab a slice to sit down and relax with, New Seasons would be a better place.(I would call ahead to double check they have some. Sellwood almost always does, as does Cedar Hills. Others as well, but some are only occasional.) They have several flavors that rotate with the seasons. Typically there are two layers with a thick cream cheese base and a lighter creamier base on top, but some flavors have just a solid layer. The pumpkin cheesecake, sold around the holidays, is my favorite. The only cheesecake I’ve ever had that can rival the texture and flavor is my sister-in-law’s. She’s the type who’s always experimenting in the kitchen with new recipes and has the best tried-and-true recipes. Lemon blueberry is my second favorite flavor. The tartness and sweetness play beautiful harmonies along the tastebuds. It’s usually out in summer along with two other delicious alternatives: lemon and mandarin orange. There’s often a blackberry cheesecake with a chocolate cookie crumb crust that I like. I also enjoy the Grand Marnier Cranberry flavor, which I just had in January, and theGingerbread flavor, which was another holiday option. Usually chocolate cheesecake is my favorite, but I wasn’t impressed with the Dutch chocolate. I prefer my own. However, they seem to have multiple chocolate ones because I tried a dark chocolate flavor in January and it was as delicious as my own– very rich and flavorful. There’s also a cherry almond one that I’m not a fan of. It’s too sweet. Flavors I haven’t tried: eggnog, vanilla, any coffee ones and new varieties. Flavors I would love to try(if they’ll make them): matcha green tea, clementine, chocolate peanut butter, ???
