Polaris of Portland

I brought my son over to look at a Rzr… Chris was overly helpful and attendant to our needs. We have a challenging requirement with our hauling setup. These guys went far out of there way to both test our setup and get us in our way.
I’ve been buying toys for years and haven’t had as great an experience. Definitely blows away anything else we have experienced locally.

I started in Texas and am alone in the middle of a 10 000 mile road trip visiting our National Parks of the West on my 2008 Victory Vision. This morning, after camping last night in Olympic NP I stopped for gas in Aberdeen, WA. After fueling up, I could not restart the engine with an apparent battery issue. A kind man lent me his jumper cables and we got it fired up after a few minutes of charging. I proceeded directly to Polaris of Portland for the next 3 hours praying I didn’t accidentally stall it. Brent at the Service desk quickly acquired a new battery and Cody swiftly got it on the bike. This all at a fair and honest price. Thanks no sales tax Oregon! Cody was also kind enough to look for any other maintenance issues that might be a problem and explain them to me. He obviously has a great amount of experience and knowledge on Victories. You Portlandians are very lucky to have a great dealership in your area. I cannot say the same yet for my own. It was a great first experience in your city from your friendly motorcycle ambassadors. I am truly thankful to them for putting me back on my way quickly when they were obviously already busy.

okay, here’s the deal… my buddy and I walked into Polaris of Portland interested in a UTV. We were greeted by a salesman but not quite the greeting one should get when walking into a dealership that charges more than 12g. for a new ride. first of all, I’m not making this personal but simply trying to express what I expect when I walk into an establishment for a new product. The salesman said hello and that’s when we started asking multiple questions about the product line they had there. he was very quite, not too informative and made me feel like it was out of his way to even ask the questions we did.
Now, fortunately, my buddy and I were somewhat knowledgeable about what we wanted, but when we started asking more specific questions about the Razor 570 or 800, he handed us a spec sheet and said it was all there. At times I felt the salesman had this condescending look as if he was better than us. maybe this was his personality but if this is the kind of people Polaris of Portland is hiring to try and push a product line that can cost as much as a car, then who would want to go there. I have a very low tolerance for not being treated EXCELLENT when I’m about to make a big purchase.
I mean, the salesman not once gave us input on any of the products unless we asked, showed zero excitement about us being there and basically drove us out with his service. He even had a chew in his mouth which was disgusting! That’s no different than throwing smoke in a customer’s face not to mention disrespectful. I really don’t get how Polaris of Portland could even allow this. If I spoke to a client with chew in my mouth I would deserve to lose that sale. What I expected was this guy to maybe lift the hood up on these UTVs and compare differences, show us the technical side of things or even just treat us like customers. I wanted him to take initiative! Not the pushy kind but the «inviting» kind.
I really don’t understand how in an economy where business owners are striving to bring in more business, don’t know the basics about how to treat customers. So we left and drove out to Pro caliber in Vancouver and was greeted by this guy named, Matt from the finance department. He was Awesome! I mean, he said he would work with us anyway possible to earn our business, initiated every question to us first, explained the differences between the product lines, and never once made us feel like we were wasting his time. He was informative and well spoken. Obviously, this guy new that it’s people like us who help pay his salary. But trust me, I don’t take that for granted. Even if I were rich, I would treat the lady who cleaned my building with respect.
The next day my buddy and I decided we were going to do business with Matt at Pro Caliber when the time came. Now, I’m not saying that all of the staff at Polaris of Portland are the same, but remember that ‘ol saying…“it only takes one bad apple to spoil it for the rest”.
I will say I also run a small business, and the very moment I forget that the customer is my boss will be the moment I lose a customer, and possibly go out of business. Polaris of Portland lost about $ 28 000 in sales that day, and I’m certain the owner doesn’t know about that. But in all fairness to the salesman I don’t blame him entirely; I put fault on management for not training their employees the basics of «the customer comes first.»
Finally, I want to say that Polaris of Portland is very clean and professional looking, and I’m certain not every sales person may have the same approach. But remember, looks can be deceiving and if you don’t like the service go somewhere else.

First off, don’t let the name fool you. This is not just a Polaris dealership. They have a range of pretty new Victory motorcycles as well as BRP/​Can-​Am stuff including snowmobiles, off-​road vehicles, and Spyders.
It’s that last that brought me in, I’m on a cross-​country road trip on my Spyder at the moment and was due for my regular warrenty-​mandated service so I sent an email to the three licensed Can Am dealers in the Oregan area asking who could fit me in. Polaris of Portland responded back quickly and was able to get me in on short notice so I could get back on the road.
As for the shop itself, it’s immaculately clean and very spacious with plenty of room to show off all their cool toys. They have a relatively small selection of riding gear, some helmets and gloves, bluetooth devices behind the counter, life vests for the jet skis, and a fair number of jackets along the wall. That’s fine, there are plenty of other places to get gear.
The service on my bike was quick (2 hours), efficient, thorough, and they offered to wash it for me when they were done for no extra charge. My only complaint is that $ 350 for an oil change and checkup is kind of ridiculous. But that seems to be the standard for Can-​Am dealers nationally so I suppose I can’t hold it against them, it’s just part of the price of admission for a vehicle I very much enjoy otherwise.
All said, I’m a happy man.
