Real divey Portland bar. I’m not sure how else to say it. Beer was good, service was not bad, and the atmosphere was… divey. I came for the open mic, which was really nothing special(coming from NY). Open mics happen every Sunday and they start anywhere from 830 – 930(apparently when they feel like it). The host was a nice guy, and the sound wasn’t bad. For a Sunday night, it was kind of dead, and the musicians were really just awaiting their turns to play. I haven’t been to many open mic’s in Portland, but if you’re coming just for the open mic, its ok, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Apart from that, it’s not a bad place if you’re coming for a show or trying to have a late night beer. Can’t comment on the food as I didn’t order any.

Great little dive bar. Cool, interesting atmosphere with a good and unique local beer selection. Food is definitely on the small side of proportions, esecially for the price and being a dive bar. Come for the atmosphere and beer.

Had one of the best Caesar salad for a while. Hand made Caesar with anchovies. And great music. Currently some real Argentina music. Nice place.

Great spot for music and awesome beer selection! Could’ve had another server, even though it was busy the server was nice and made sure people got what they wanted. Definitely coming back!

Fun bar in St. John’s. Good selection of beer, nice people and an interesting atmosphere. The only drawback is it’s location, not an area I go to often… but if I did I know where I would drink.

Small but a good place too go lots of beer choices. Been to a couple of good Rockshows Here and they fill growlers.

Cool owner very hip without being pretentious, fun music almost as if we were back in time! Awesome service beer tasting was no issue, great common knowledge of local brews and a wide variety of the libations and the kumbuchacha

This bar is confused. They want to be 420 friendly, but they play the most aggressively loud techno music I have ever experienced at a bar. YOUHAVETOYELLTOHAVE A CONVERSATION! The beer is cheap and tasty but seriously, are we 19 year olds at a rave? Why, why, why? Please stop this nonsense!

I have hung out in enough crappy basements… Yah, and your regulars seal the deal. A deal of remorse and a not so fresh feeling. Wow what a shit box.

This place was a fun dive bar! Very friendly staff and community hang out. I got the ginja-ninja cider and it was tasty. Although my lack of stars is due to the food I ordered. I ordered curry with vegetables and rice. The rice was mostly hard, but I was so starving I just tried to work around it. I would go back solely for the beer and good place to read a book in the afternoon and relax.

This dog friendly joint has a dedicated cider and mead line and an awesome tap rotation. They serve home-made, filling grub that’s welcoming to any diet. Great St. Johns haunt!

Plew’s is in my Neighborhood, and we’ve been going since the first week that they opened. There have been lots of improvements since the beginning. Always excellent beer list, reasonable $ 10. Growlers, lots of live music, and very friendly bartenders! The only drawback is the bathroom… it really needs to be renovated, or even better, add a ladies room.

It’s not true that the streets of St Johns roll up at 10PM. Plew’s goes late with music played over a good sound system. Their booking is mostly live bands with occasional DJs. They have a fine micro tap list and a kombucha. Great staff. Comfy couches and a wall of board games with booths too. Plew’s for music and conversation in St Johns late? A-OK!

Great place I take my friends and family to whenever they visit my office in St. Johns. I wouldn’t call it a dive bar, more like a friendly watering hole. The beer is great, the selection always varies(I’ve never had the same dark beer twice) and the prices are fantastic. I really like that it doesn’t pretend to be anything more than what people want it to be, a good place to get a growler filled, stop off for a pint or two after work, or listen to some music and relax. Staff is nice, and quick. Shoot, even the bar stools are comfortable to sit on. It’s probably my favorite bar in Portland and not just because it’s across the street. It’s everything I want it to be and nothing I don’t want it to be.

Good place to play. As well as a friendly barman(Marcus), Plew’s has decent audio gear — EAW no less, and a sound guy who can actually spell S O U N D(Steve). Plug in an iPad — no problem. Can I use my own vocal effects pedal? No problem. a little more iPad in the monitors? — no problem. Add to this a friendly audience who want to see you succeed, a decent beer list, and a menu where the food is not all dumped into a deep fryer, and you have a decent pub(I say pub because a) I’m a Brit and b) they serve sausage rolls.) All in all a fun night — ½ hour drive for me, but I’ll be back to play again. Cheers Grif Bamaisin

This place is hands down the best place in St. John’s. Simple, delicious food, silly board games and some unique beers. The first time I came here with the boyfriend, some guys were selling edibles in the back and there was a kissing booth for a $ 1. I got to smooch a cute lady and listen to a good band. Since then, we were given a free growler because the owner didn’t like the brand too well and we refill it often.

I like Plew’s & I think you will too. It’s basically the place to chill with your buddies & drink a beer or three. We stopped in on a whim after grabbing dinner at Tienda Santa Cruz with our friend & fellow Unilocal Elite, Joe M. We ended up hanging out for well over two hours drinking, playing Sorry!, & listening to the live local band. We didn’t plan to stay as long as we did but it happened & we had a great time. Plew’s has good, unique rotating taps, a library of board games, & a lot of space with tables & chairs as well as couches. There’s so much space even your dog can walki in & relax.

Finally checked this place out. I like it. It IS like hanging out in someone’s house — with far more games, and beer choices. A couple big tables, lots of comfy old couches(maybe a few smaller tables would be cool). Tangerine wheat beer — yum. Not the biggest beer person — but I love me a tangerine beer and was so glad the barkeep recommended it! Food options are cheap and very limited. Mediocre Alfredo and sausage rolls which I rather enjoyed! I can only imagine it would be a great place for a group of people and definitely want to check out a show there soon. Not terribly reggae as I had read on Unilocal — and the odd poster of Homer Simpson on the wall was very unnerving. Oh yeah. it’s dark in there, real dark. P. S. My date may have only left the bartender a $ 1 tip on a $ 24 check — and there was nothing I could do about it without being rude and since I had no ones. If so — man, I apologize and kudos for not throwing a hissy fit. But I’m really hoping I’m wrong, and it was $ 6.

Plew’s Brews is too great, if only for the name! They have an ever-changing selection of beers and the funkiest décor imaginable. Bar staff are super knowledgeable and helpful(which is awesome for someone who is as clueless about beer as I am celebrities — pretty darn clueless!) and if they’re out of what you had your heart set on(ahem, my friend’s favorite from the week before) they’ll give you suggestions for something else that will make your tastebuds very happy. This is THE place to plop down and have a few drinks with friends. I can’t imagine a more homey bar than Plew’s.
