I think this place closed. Looks like it was a good place, but we weren’t able to find it.

I went to this little café before they moved to Yamhill. The staff was very friendly and I liked the cozy setting. I had the poppyseed piroshki and was a little disappointed. There wasn’t much filling and the pastry itself lacked in flavor. I have had piroshkis from Russian cafes and Pike Place in Seattle so I perhaps I have higher expectations. I wouldn’t mind giving this place another try though!

A fun new place in downtown, a bit off the beaten path, but well worth the extra block’s walk, and right next to the streetcar and Library Max stop! The atmosphere is quiet and nice, there’s been good music playing each time I’ve been, and the owners were very pleasant and polite. The food is delicious; I’ve never had piroshki before, but it ranks highly among my favorite foods now. The bavarian sausage was juicy and tasty, and the spicy pickle is something I’d pick up any time I was simply walking by, but I’m big on anything pickled.

KEEPINGITSIMPLE Across from the library on Yamhill Street, there’s a very cute Victorian building that houses this Russian themed Piroshki & A Pickle shop surrounded by law offices. There’s a very nice fellow who will take and prepare your order. Nothing very complicated, just point and order. We go for one Piroshki with meat and a sausage encased with essentially the same pastry dough as the Piroshki. The young man suggested that we include the spicy pickle for both and proceeds to offer us the lunch special prices. What a nice gesture. The two items didn’t quite fulfill our appetites. However, it was more than enough to say that we tried something new.

Nothing like Seattle Piroshkis. If you are after a delicious filled Piroshki with a chewy outer layer this place will just leave you disappointed. The Piroshkis are OK, but the breading is more like phyllo dough opposed to bready goodness. They look as though they were made in a rush and do not have the beautiful detail that is put into Piroshkis you find in Seattle. They are also a bit too greasy for my taste.

First time having piroshki. I’m glad that I tried it because it’s quite tasty! However, I must agree with other reviewer that the dough/bread part was not very fresh-out-of-oven crispy after reheating. I did like the taste of the piroshki(one with beef and cabbage). The portion is small(in American standard). For $ 5 it’s not too bad at all. I also got a cup of tea(as part of breakfast special) that’s very good. Loose leave tea, not tea bag!!! I would for sure go back, but probably ask for no-reheating. Really hope to give it another star because it does taste good.

Nice little place with brightly colored décor. Just a few small tables and a small counter at the back. We had a broccoli & mushroom and a cabbage & carrot piroshki. Both were tasty although next time I’d try them without having them heated in the microwave. It made the pastry soft and they were a bit greasy. We tried the dill pickle. Nothing special. The apple pastry that we shared for dessert was delicious! I’d come back here just for that. I liked that the server halved the pastry knowing we’d be sharing it. Nice touch. Hubby loved his latte too.

I’m amazed by the rave reviews for this place because I left very unimpressed. I walk by this place on my way to work and it’s cute and all the reviews are so good on Unilocal! So one morning last week I decided to take an early bus in so I could grab a breakfast piroshki. The place was completely empty. I got the breakfast deal for $ 5, which gets you a piroshki and a 12oz drip coffee. The coffee was so bitter I took one sip and couldn’t drink the rest. When I lived in Seattle I used to get piroshki all the time from Piroshki Piroshki. Those were tasty, HOT, a little moist in the center and very filling. The piroshki I got here was stale, bland, greasy and lukewarm from being reheated for 30 second in the oven. Because of all the great reviews, I might give them another try… but I’m hesitant to.

It is small and cozy. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I have had the smoked salmon, strawberry and chocolate, and the breakfast bacon and hashbrown piroshki, they have all be wonderful. I can spend a long time here with my laptop it is very comfortable.

Cute café with friendly people and delicious food. My spinach, egg, and cheese piroshki was tasty and super fresh tasting, the coffee was excellent(probably typical for Portland), and the price was perfectly reasonable(5 bucks for both). The guy at the counter was friendly and talkative in a non-creepy way(yay for Portland genuine friendliness!) and I had a good time. I would definitely frequent this place if I was in the area again.

So I had the beef and cabbage piroshki today for lunch. Only other time I had opportunity to try delicious Russian pastry was back in Seattle, WA at the famous Piroshky Piroshky. Only other«similar» item could be found at Tanya’s European Deli but I don’t think what they serve is piroshki. So I was excited to give this place a try. In comparison, this was blows both places out of the water. Price was the highest(I usually spent $ 2 at Tanya and $ 4 to $ 5 at Piroshky x2) so $ 6.50 for one piece of pastry did seem bit high, but for its quality and authenticity I am willing to get it as a rare treat. It has right consistency of meat/veggie to the flaky buttery crisp exterior of the pastry which maintained its shape all right. So I ate it as I walked downtown on my way to work. Service was good, and I plan on bringing some of my friends with me next time as it makes great comfort food in winter.

The piroshkis and the pickles are both delicious! There are even a few vegetarian options, a mushroom, potato and onion piroshki, and a broccoli, mushroom and cheese piroshki. Nice atmosphere, even some live music while I was there. The staff was friendly. They warm up the piroshkis for you when you order, which is nice. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that the service was a little slow. There was only one order in front of us, and it took several minutes for us to order and get our food. The people behind us actually left. It was worth the wait, though! I think this is a great, charming, and unique place. I would like to go back.

After a jaunt to the Chocolate Festival, my wife & I were looking for a little non-sweet sustenance to carry us the rest of the day. Having seen this from the MAX earlier in the day, I suggested we pop in for some afternoon snackies. I admit, I screwed up when I first read the sign. I could have sworn it said«Pierogi & A Pickle», and was really jazzed for pierogi. But we were hungry and willing to try anything once, so let’s tuck in to a piroshki! Turns out it was a good decision to stay. I had the shredded beef & cabbage piroshki, and my wife had a breakfast style with egg/cheese/ham. The flavor balance in both were outstanding, with a tender flaky crust and a not-overstuffed inside. My personal opinion on filled items is that you need to have a good crust and just enough filling to enhance that delicious crust. That’s a concept that P&aP brings in spades. The cabbage & beef brought the slightly tangy cabbage, savory beef and some caraway seed to the table, with a flaky buttery crust. We each complemented the piroshki with half-sour pickles, and they matched the quality of most deli pickles I’ve had in my life. I must return to try their spicy pickle, which looked like it had some promise while in the giant glass jar. So, why four stars instead of five? I’m thinking that since they’re still a bit new, they’re coming up with the load balancing equation. There was one person running the counter, and she runs it serially(doing only one thing at a time). However, I’m sure she’ll get the hang of it over time. Additionally, many of the regular piroshki were already sold out(3 hours before closing), which tells me they’re still trying to figure out how many of each kind to make. But this is a new business, and I think they’ll get the hang of that as well. I’m saying it’s worth another shot, and you might want to give it a shot as well.

Cute little place hidden in a quiet area. The décor is nice and the poppy seed piroshki is very tasty. The bread is soft and fluffy. I would come here again to try their other piroshki offerings.

This place is adorable! I ordered the beef & cabbage pirooski(shredded beef, cabbage, shredded carrots, and sauerkraut). Sooo tasty — the perfect balance of sweet/savory beef and tangy, tender-crisp veggies. Although I don’t know anything about piroshkis, the dough to filling ratio felt pretty satisfying. The pastry, itself, was super flaky even though the woman running it said it’s only milk, flour, eggs, and yeast. She and the other girls seemed super warm and sweet. $ 7 felt like a lot to pay for a pastry… but I guess it’s meant to be a meal. Also, props for the good, local coffee, nice décor, and adorable dough-ball logo.
