I am so sad to read that POF has closed. Twice a year we visit Portland and both visits include eating at POF. The food, service, and atmosphere are outstanding. I know the food will be fresh, well prepared, and delicious. We appreciate the vegetarian menu with great choices since one of our family members is a veggie and that separate menu makes life easier for all of us. What we thought was our last night happy hour visit, that included the calamari(beautifully done) and the Thai chicken kebob with an excellent slaw, was not. I had to go back again for that Thai chicken and slaw the next evening. Fantastic, just the right amount of food to go with a cocktail. And what a wonderful setting to just sit and relax. Portland trips will not be the same without Perrys on Fremont.

Perry’s On Fremont is well known to those in the area, Those not from the area need to know what a fantastic place it is for a great meal with a wonderful atmosphere for those who have children. It has a lot of character to keep the youngsters amused. My boys are big eaters & we left well fed. We were very sad that we had no room left to try one of their wonderful deserts. The food was fantastic and we are always ready for a return visit. On our family budget, it could be a once in a while treat.

I have loved Perry’s for over 30 years! It’s in a neighborhood where my parents lived and I blame them for my food-snob ways. At a young age, I ate foods there that no five year old would eat! To this day, I return, with a bit of nostalgia(it’s pretty timeless in there) and the food is just as gourmet and delicious as ever. After many times, I finally met Perry. My toddler ran in the front and by the time I got to him, he had a car in hand, given to him by Perry.

Best classic deserts in town! We go there often just for desert on date night after we have eaten somewhere else.

I recommend trying lunch or dinner on the beautiful patio in summertime.

The food at this place is decent but in Portland that doesn’t cut the mustard. My friend«M» and I split a GIANT cinnamon roll and it was great. Sadly, the menu situation is complicated and doesn’t make sense. There’s a vegetarian menu, a happy hour menu, a history of the restaurant binder and a regular menu. During happy hour you have to sit at certain tables to get the deals. All of these items are presented to you when you first sit down. Take a hint Perry’s and make it easy for customers to eat at your restaurant: cut it down to one menu and ditch the rules about tables during happy hour. The servers at this place are weird. The first time our waitress seemed out of it-like she was on a bunch of pain meds. Service was slow and I had to ask her three times for cream for my coffee. The second time our server seemed irritated when we asked questions about the complicated menu system.

This review is for happy hour. Disclaimer: I am NOT cheap. I have no qualms about dropping a huge wad for food/drinks provided both are good. However, at Perry’s they actually put on their happy hour menu that you get NO coffee, iced tea or soda refills, if you drink just water they’ll charge you 2.50, and it’s not available for take-out. Okaaay. Maybe it’s me but are people abusing happy hour here where they have to actually write that stuff down, and charge someone $ 2.50 for WATER if they choose not to drink anything else? Seriously? That aside(though it still clearly pisses me off), the happy hour food menu was good, inexpensive and tasty. The house red wine was palatable, and on the verge of enjoyable. The service was good, and attentive. I really can’t get over $ 2.50 for water. Of course I ordered a drink, but what if you don’t? What if you’re the designated driver? Seriously?

Bizarre and Odd Behavior at that place. Went for happy hour and asked to sit outside. The guy who seated us brought us regular dinner menus. When the waitress came to take our order, we asked about happy hour drink and food specials. She left to get us the happy hour menus, but said we couldn’t sit at the table we were at for happy hour. Apparently we were on the wrong side of some imaginary line? So over one table to the«happy hour» section. Very very odd, since only 2 out of 12 tables had any people seated, and there wasn’t an obvious difference in sections. One would think the restaurant would be appreciative of business, but I think they have too much attitude and too many rules! yuk! Oh, the food was okay, and drink specials nothing fantastic.

I purposely searched Unilocal the other day to look for a restaurant with outside seating. I found Perry’s on the list of local places. I have driven by there a thousand times, but never stopped in. They have a very nice patio area in the front. The wait staff was excellent and the food outstanding. I had rigatoni and sausage with bolognese. I asked for it spicy and the chef nailed it. It had a nice bite and really good flavor. My girlfriend ordered the risotto. The colors made the dish visually pleasing and the flavor was excellent. I will definitely keep this place on my list to go back.

First. This place is a 5 star pie place. Go in there, order a pie or slice of pie to go… They bring it up quickly. And it is always totally delicious. We will continue to come back. So it has to be a good restaurant too right! Nope. Went there on a Friday for dinner and its about ½ full. We get seated quickly but its about 10min till someone comes by. They take our order and bring our drinks and four little cubes of some kind of toast with a little cup of some sauce that I think may be salad dressing??? And then we wait, and wait, and wait. It took 50 minutes before our chicken pot pie and warm salad arrive. No excuse or apology. Its like 50 minutes is what you are supposed to wait or something. First bite… and its pretty good. But by the time I get through about ¼ of it… no more gravy in the pie. And it becomes dry. I mean so dry that I had to pull some of the chicken out of my mouth. The chicken was WAY overcooked and there was about ¼ of the gravy necessary. My wifes warm salad was ok. Ok now we wait for the check, and wait, and wait. Did I mention that the restaurant was only 50% full. We finally wave down another server and ask for the check. When our server came with the check she hovered over the table till we put the right cash in. Maybe she was waiting to get the cash to run back and get change. But it was weird after not seeing her most of the evening to be hovering over the table like that at the end. So we will be back for pie but NOT for dinner

Two of us went to Perry’s on a Friday night and the place was about half full. The staff apparently took that as a cue to run at half-speed. It took almost a half hour after being seated to see a glass of wine. A couple pieces of bland toast and mysteriously not-quite-delicious-but-I’ll-dip-my-bread-in-it-anyways spread showed up alongside the wine. After ordering service sped up and the quality of food improved. I had a saffron risotto that was so full of flavor that I couldn’t stop eating it despite being full. If somebody said, «Hey, Let’s go to Perry’s on Fremont» I’d agree. I just wouldn’t make the suggestion myself.

Perry’s is one of my favorite restaurants. Like some of the other reviewers mentioned, most of the patrons are older individuals or families. But this should not deter you if you’re 18 – 28, like me. Perry’s has delicious homemade desserts(my favorites are the old– fashioned chocolate cake and the giant cinnamon roll). And a great happy hour with $ 3.50 small plates and $ 3.00 microbrews. There are also vegetarian items! The service is great, and they refill your water very frequently. And the interior is eclectic and tasteful. Also– they bring you toasty bread and some mysteriously delicious spread when you sit down.

I live in Seattle, but I love Portland, OR. IMO, its a great city for eats. Perry’s is in a great neighborhood, very pedestrian friendly. The crowd is mostly families and older folks. I met some friends of mine who drove up from Beaverton. Each of us ordered a spirited beverage and shared an order of the house flatbread. I ordered the saffron risotto — it was excellent. The dish was made up of prawns, bacon, sundried tomatoes, and wild mushrooms. PROS: Great food, locally sourced ingredients(classic Portland) CONS: This is not the cheapest place to have dinner; the servers seemed a bit slow, especially considering we were there on a Tuesday night when the place was all but empty!

Delicious! One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The three of us stopped for dinner after a long and winding drive through narrow zigzagging streets. Everything was excellent, from the chicken with oyster mushrooms(yum…so few restaurants I’ve dined in use the amazingly versatile oyster mushrooms) to the creamy risotto with shiitake mushrooms(I think), to the delectable spicy fisherwoman’s stew(I had this. It was perfectly spicy and warm in my belly on a November night). I finished the whole bowl(Oink!) and still couldn’t lay my hands off the chocolate mousse. My co-worker was moaning and groaning after the first spoonful… which was a hilarious sight to see. The service was great. Our waters were refilled constantly. The waitress took our orders quickly and replenished our bread with a basketful. All in all, a fantastic meal in an eclectically decorated large restaurant with intimate nooks and window-side seats. Dinner does not get much better than this.

Finally went last night and sat and ate at Perry’s. We got burgers to go once and they were really good but I didn’t feel I should review them until I ate there in person. Very nice wait staff. We sat outside and brought our Boston Terrier. Our waitress went to tell another woman that worked there about our dog. She came out to meet him because she has a Boston too. I had a burger again with mushrooms which was very tasty and they were able to cook it medium well without drying it out or burning it. My husband got the pulled pork(huge portion) and it had a little kick to it which he likes and he said it was much more interesting than most pull pork sandwiches around town. We’ll have to walk here again for dinner. Next time we need to save room for dessert because they look wonderful.

I just have one word so say… DESSERT… This is one of my favorite places for dessert. I have had fruit pies, banana cream/coconut pie, and cakes. All were great. You can not go wrong for sweets at Perry’s. I have eaten dinner here once and it was good, but the dessert is why I frequent Perry’s.

Perry’s always reminds me of my childhood… before changing their name and relocating to the current location, Perry’s was once known as Hamburger Patty’s. As a child I was always down for a trip there for a grilled cheese sandwich, a bowl of chili, topped off with their amazing mocha malt. Well, my palate may be a little more refined since those days, and their menu may be a more comprehensive, yet the food, great service and family feel of Perry’s has not changed a bit. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal, or bad experience here. Each visit I have left feeling full and very happy with choice to go back yet again. The deserts are a must, so make sure to save room.
