Love Papa G’s. Really lovely vegan organic food made with love. I walked in and the air was filled with spices and herbs. I ordered the Indian Curry plate with brown rice, dal, salad, and tomato tumeric chutney. The gentleman subbed my favorite mashed sweet potatoes for the missing raita. I sat by the plant filled corner with a borrowed book on gardening. I listened to Led Zeplin, Doors, and Stones play loudly on their Pandora music station. As I was finishing up, I was introduced to their raw strawberry vanilla cheese cake. Just like he promised, the raw cheesecake was exceptional. It was so smooth. Hard to believe it wasnt cooked. Note to self again… eat at Papa G’s more often.

I eat at vegan restaurants in cities around the country as i travel for a living and Papa G’s has it going on with the best! One of the best dishes you’ll have anywhere in terms of flavor and texture is the epic nacho salad! …and filling!

After our horrendous experience at Portobello, we came here and were treated wonderfully. The food excelled and we turned a spoiled Sunday into a very nice experience. Papa G’s rocks

When I first walk in its was quite place which I like but till I saw the kitchen it’s looks unorganized and not the cleanest place. The bathroom doesn’t have any those toilet paper covers for the seat that’s is nasty. I had to squat to pee. I’m being honest it’s the food is okay. I ordered nachos and vegan cheesecake but I feel there better places to get vegan/vegetarian food. If you like over priced, not so best quality food and in rush or whatever then this is place is for you my friend.

I love Papa G’s. It’s so easy to eat healthy, tasty, organic and affordable meals and the people working here really put their heart and love into the food. My favorite are the raw collard wraps and I’m not usually a tofu fan, but their house-made barbeque tofu is out of this world good. The service can be slow, so go there when you have time to relax and enjoy. Another major reason I love this place is the ambiance — it’s totally comfortable and down to earth – I often go there when I want to have a good conversation and feel uplifted.

If you like food served/created by a person who genuinely cares for your well-being more than making money and you’re in Portland, please support this place. If you have money and are eating vegan because you want to «be healthy» or follow trends, please support this place. If you give a **** about yourself/the earth/pdx local economy, please support this place. I’m boring and I usually just get dahl and kefir but I always leave feeling 1,000x better than when I came in.

I found this place on food fight app. The first time I went there I went with my mom and I got a homestyle plate and it was excellent. The next time I went with my sister and I got the BBQ plate. Both plates were amazing but I definitely would get the homestyle one again. The service was nice and the food didn’t take long to get to my mouth.

Eating at Papa G’s is like eating at your best friend’s house who just happens to be an awesome chef and always knows exactly what you’re craving. No matter what I order, it always taste really flavorful and thought-out. It may not always be the prettiest presentation, but who cares? This place hits the spot every time. If you like homemade vegan food and could care less about all that fancy shmancy stuff, check out Papa G’s. So good.

Wow!!! If I were ever to open a café, I want it to be just like this place. Organic everything which is so refreshing. I love not worrying about lingering gross stuff in my food. The setting is nice and there is a lot of sunshine inside. There’s outside seating as well. Order at the bar and food is brought to your table. Easy peasy. We ordered the house nochos with chili and the southern sampler with beets. Took a bit to get our food which made us even more hungry by the time it came and we were very excited by the looks of it. Both dishes were fabulous! Their cheese is awesome and I want to steal their recipe(sorry guys). The mac and cheese was something to write home about. I will have to bring my parents here when they come to visit next. We grabbed a raw cake slice for later and devoured it. I believe it was chocolate coffee? So good. We will definitely be back for more in the future. I want to eat everything on their menu… at once.

I had the Southern Sampler. The tofu is pretty good, I was kind of worried it would be mushy but it wasn’t at all — firm and just the right amount of bite to it. The Sampler comes with mac and cheeze. Both the BBQ sauce on the tofu and the mac and cheeze are a little on the salty side but not so bad that you can’t eat it. The star of this dish for me was the seasonal side vegetable. I had a choice of broccoli, beets or zucchini in any combination I wanted — I did all broccoli and it was GREAT. Hot but still kinda undercooked which was perfect for me as I HATE mushy broccoli. Overall, I’d try it again.

There’s no place that makes a country plate better and more lovingly than Papa G’s. It’s true, I’m a creature of habit and I rarely order anything else other than the country plate. It’s so good, has tons of flavor, and we’re always given extra seasonal veggies. It also has an amazing program for waste… there basically isn’t any! Recycling, composting, what could be better?

My hubby and just had a wonderful lunch a PapaG’s there sweet potato smash is excellent! They have a wide variety of food in there menu including gluten free and it’s all organic mmmmm good! Hubby enjoyed his smash with some vegan chili. We both tried a different flavor of their Kombucha on tap! Both the coconut and blueberry-mint were delicious! They offered some terrific vegan cheesecakes that I will be sure to try on our next. It is well worth the drive to eat the fantastic, fresh, nourishing food at Papa G’s!

Amazing what this place can do with vegan items. The chili dog was incredible; the chili has a sweet spiciness to it that is delectable. I think if I was just eating the tofu dog alone, I’d be a bit more disappointed, but the chili really adds a needed kick! The peanut tempeh is out of this world. I usually find tempeh to be inedible; the bark-like texture and woodchip-like taste put me off, but this peanut sauce made me feel like I was eating real people food! The cashier/cook was very kind and added to the atmosphere. I can’t wait to come back.

Delicious vegan food. Tried the country plate and sampler plate. Stand outs include the BBQ sauce, mac and cheese, tempeh, and wild mushroom gravy. So good and healthy! There was a small cup of green curry-like soup he brought out for us due to the long wait and it was amazing! Will definitely come back and try the other menu items.

Great vegan food with lots of flavor and color. Loved the Ty bowl(tempeh peanut sauce, scallions, slaw, black beans and brown rice) and the ginger kefir beer(non-alcoholic). Got to try the hot sauce also and it had a real kick with out being over the top. Everything is organic and and fresh.

This vegetarian loves Papa G’s, and my meat-eating friends do too. This time, Papa G’s was a stop on my very own first impromptu Dana’s Food Tour PDX. We were no longer so hungry when Hungry Friend and Hungry Me decided on the Southern Plate. I remembered that Papa G’s knows how to do tofu Right. And they did. The single man behind the counter was clearly overwhelmed by the constant rush of people ordering complicated homecooked organic vegan meals. He warned us that it would be a while. He tried not to be too rude, as he expressed just how busy it was. And he wasn’t. I tried not to be too annoying. I hope I succeeded. I led Hungry Friend to the picnic table outside. Soon, our plate arrived(served by the stressed out cook who, you know, somewhat resembled Johnny Depp). Funny. We thought we were not so hungry. But we were wrong. Voila, with a plate of mac n cheese shells(mmm good texture) and BBQ tofu(mmmm tasty sauce) alongside two piles of veggies(good olé fashioned corn on one side and mixed sliced squash on the other), here comes the appetite. Papa G’s has never disappointed me. It’s small, but roomy. In the past, I’ve seen bands play here. Maybe they still do? When I first moved to PDX, it was a nice place to study for an hour or two while I had a tasty meal. The food is not cheap, but it is not too expensive either. You can definitely find something filling for $ 10 or less. The salad bar has shrunk in the last few years, from it’s heyday in the middle of the restaurant. But it still looks fresh and fantastic.

Awesome collard wrap! Super fresh, healthy and flavorful! The tempeh Reuben was unfortunately very, very greasy and not at all healthy. Needed veggies to sort of tone down the 1000 island dressing and cooking fat. The ginger beer was BOMB! Very casual, laidback place — will definitely return!

If I could I would give this place 10 stars. The atmosphere, friendly, laid back staff and, of course, the incredible food has convinced us to make this place a regular. My wife got the Indian food plate and everything on it was amazing, including the raita, which is something I usually can’t stand! I had the veggie burger and chips which, I dare say was the best I’ve had! We both had the house made limeade which, of course, was delicious as well. You really can’t go wrong! Looking forward to trying more of the menu. :)

What an awesome discovery during my time in Portland! Among the four of us we tried a selection of dishes. I had the southern platter with BBQ tofu, mac & cheese and a selection of veggies. The tofu was fantastic! But it did get a little salty by the end of it which is probably why there was the mac and cheese to go with it. Otherwise that was a bit bland. Another had one of their specials, the falafel burger. A third tried the Ty plate which is a thai inspired dish with tempeh, rice and beans in a peanut sauce. The fourth built her own plate with a coconut curry and stewed greens. I think the table favourite was the coconut curry though. Really tasty. The gentleman running the place(I forgot his name!) was great and super helpful. When he found out it was our first time visiting, he gave us a great breakdown of all the dishes and gave selection options when one in my party wanted to build her own plate. He was constantly checking up on us to make sure we were okay. I really enjoyed my meal here and definitely will be back the next time I’m in Portland with vegan travel buds.

Organic, vegan, raw, healthy??? This spot has been on my radar for a while and fortunately one of my friends wanted to try it. There is parking out front but wasn’t sure if I was allowed. I stuck to parking on the side and went in the restaurant. The place is smaller than I envisioned. Daily specials are listed by the register. The main menu is displayed above the kitchen area. One thing I learned right away is that food can run out pretty quick. A couple of menu special’s were sold out so options can be limited at times. I thought about getting the curry bowl but then spotted the chili with cornbread. Luckily it was still available when I ordered. Shortly after I ordered, the guy working behind the counter announced it was the last of it for the evening. Eating utensils, water, and napkins are self serve. If you forget something, the staff can provide it for you too. I took a bite of the chili and I was blown away how well seasoned and thick the chili was. I only added a little bit of pepper simply because I’m a pepper nut. The cornbread is a little dense but not dry. It soaked up well after dipping with the chili. After a few bites, I came to the realization that this is some of the best chili I have ate in this city. The curry bowl is also recommended. Greens or «smash» can be added for an additional charge which is strongly encouraged. I approved after sampling both the curry and greens. This is another great spot if looking for something healthy yet filling at the same time! Just try to get there early though if you want something that is listed on the menu.
