Nice atmosphere, good IPA, and some of the best pizza I’ve had in Portland. Prices aren’t cheap, but you get good food.

Not bad but… eh. We didn’t get any pizza here since supper time was on the near horizon and didn’t want to get a big snack. We got the six Garlic Knots option that was on the menu which was actually really good! I’m not sure if the there was a partial mistake in the beer we ordered because Steve got a dark beer with coffee as the ingredient and they had a chili chocolate beer which I thought was dark but what I got looked like a Pale Ale and tasted like a Pale Ale. I could have returned the beer and got the correct one but we figured that there were other fish to fry and other things to see rather than delay our flow that we were on. Whether that was a mistake or not and the beer simply didn’t taste like I thought it should it was still pretty solid compared to some of the other breweries we hit while on our trip. The atmosphere is cool and I imagine the pizza is good too but again, this stop was for our beer run and not for a meal.

What happened? I’ve been going to Old Town since the ‘80s, & it used to be the best pizza in town, imo. My wife and I just came from lunch, and it’s just not the same. The sauce now tastes like it’s nothing more than plain tomato sauce straight from a can. The rosemary chicken was *literally* unseasoned — completely bland and flavorless. The cheese also flavorless; maybe they’ve switched to a «low-moisture part-skim mozzarella substitute», I don’t know. It’s sad, really. My brother worked here in high-school, as did several friends. Lots of good memories of good pizza, but I guess those days are gone.

Garlic knots were really good and staff was very friendly. A casual environment and they have a great happy hr!

Love the feel of this place and specifically the MLK location which is close to us. We had our rehearsal dinner here and they were more than accommodating. We went downstairs, as we had the top half reserved for us, to take shots and we were a little loud however they said nothing. Great pizza and good memories.

The last time I went to Old Town Pizza, it was on a field trip when I was a kid to the Underground Tunnels. I can’t say I remember the pizza, but I hadn’t been back since. To be honest, I thought it would be a pretentious pizza joint these days because they’re on the«sustainable» bandwagon. However, I ended up eating my words, so to say. The bartender was super friendly and the guy that we ordered our pizza from at the window(and additionally brought our food) was incredibly polite. Despite this being some-what self service, we felt checked in on plenty of times and got exactly what we needed. I like the simplicity of the menu. Pizza, salad, and spaghetti. No frills. The service in my opinion was better than the pizza, but it isn’t to say the pizza was bad. I’ve just had better. We got the BBQ pulled pork pizza along with their specialty; garlic knots. All pretty decent. I think I might enjoy the pizza more next time if I customize the pizza.(Different sauce, crust, etc.) I’d definitely recommend Old Town to anybody near downtown for a bite to eat.

The history of the restaurant was really cool and I loved the old timey vibe and furniture. A friend and I were visiting from out of state and heard great reviews calling it «the best pizza in town». We ordered the garlic knots and their version of a supreme pizza. The knots were pretty good(fresh and hot) but the pizza honestly tasted like a Digiorno… like the same size and flavorless dough. Looking at the pictures here on Unilocal, our pizza looked nothing like them. Not sure if they really put a frozen pizza in their oven because we weren’t locals or if if Portland really thinks this is the best pizza in town. Overall, I liked the joint itself.

I gobbled up a whole pizza and a delicious beer. What a great time. The tomatoes are haunted by the basil. So good.

Best pizza I’ve had the pleasure of eating in years. My only complaint is they won’t deliver to the Goose Hollow neighborhood, SW King Ave. Literally 1.3 mi, a 5 min drive.

I ordered spaghetti and meatballs as an entrée and garlic knots as an appetizer. Several tables as I was looking for one had numerous cup stains from not being wiped down after bussing. The mood was dark and romantic, but the floors were dirty and my candle was not lit. The garlic knots were awesome bread rolls with a hint of garlic and marinara for dipping. The marinara was cold and made the garlic knot cold with every bite. The spaghetti and meatballs were hard to sum up. The meatballs were awesome with a delicious explosion of spices. The noodles were not drained and left the canned tasting marinara watery and crappier than it should have been. Their own beers they have on tap were delicious. Mediocre experience at best. Very sad about that.

I’ve been here a few times the past couple of weeks for lunch and the kitchen staff is who I gotta thank. As soon as I walk in the door I’m greeted like an old friend. They keep their slice pies both standard and creative every day of the week, so I know I can get something reliable, or different depending on my lunchtime mood. The beers on tap are also what keeps me coming back; their Shanghai’d IPA is one of my recent favorites(apparently they just won a gold medal for it). This place just reeks of Portland and I love it. Great for newcomers and regulars alike. Jeez, its been around for 40ish years. Oh yeah, there’s a ghost too… Check this place out!

Go for the experience, stay for the beer. The folklore and building have far more appeal than their pizza in my opinion, my recommendation is to go with the thin crust as their dough is just a bit chewy and bland. As far as the beers go, some very solid ones(coffee pale being the best). Super friendly staff and very comforting bar area. As far as the haunted rep, definitely a possibility.

Super unclear process… I pay first? I seat myself? I get a menu and then walk up to order? Beer? Excellent – tried the Shanghai’d IPA. Pizza? Pretty darn good and huge for a small/regular.

Atmosphere is great — all antique woods. The food is mediocre(pizza) to bad(Caesar salad was simply garlic on romaine lettuce). Service at lunch was truly terrible. Truthfully, I think they forgot us, but we had an hour for lunch and chose it because it’s pizza by the slice and salad. We didn’t get our pizza for more than 20 minutes, and they forgot our drinks and salads. Unless someone drags me in, I won’t be returning.

The restaurant is very cute. With creaky floors, dim lighting and big open windows for people watching. I ordered the combo/house pizza. I felt like it was a safe option, and it was. The sauce was light and not overpowering, the toppings were great and tasted fresh. However, a small house special was $ 14.95…on a Monday afternoon… I just didn’t feel anything«special» about it. My friend however, ordered their pizza with walnuts, pineapple and pulled pork. THAT was a special pizza! Again though, it was pricy. That small thin crust pizza was $ 18.50! If you don’t mind spending more than what you’re used to for pizza, this would be a fun place to visit.

Neat little place in an old building that used to be a hotel back around 1880. I stopped in for a mid-afternoon beer and slice. The pizza was very good; it was a little chewy since it was reheated, but if I ordered whole pie that was freshly baked it would have been great. Fun place that I enjoyed visiting.

The pasta here is not good. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs — a classic dish that is nearly impossible to make poorly, right? The sauce was bland, flavorless, and oversalted while the meatballs were also dry and painfully flavorless. For $ 9.99 I was not expecting a gourmet meal — but this felt amateurish. Because of its history, cool vibe, and large portion sizes I considered a three star rating. However, I subtracted an additional star because there was an aggressive swarm of fruit flies invading our table space. No just a few. Dozens! It is inexcusable for an indoor restaurant to be so oblivious to such an unappetizing problem. You can do better than this, OTP.

Okay, so we didn’t see any ghosts. The closest one was probably the steam coming off of the pizza. SPOOOOOOKYYYYY! Really, though: the cheesy bread and garlic knots are a must. The pizza is so-so. Not really sure why this made the«Places to Go in Portland» map aside from the apparent SPOOOOKINESS. We had a large group come in at around 5pm, so we were early. It wasn’t too busy, and I was on the lookout for GHOSTS! In my PIZZA?! Or something to that effect. Anyway, the best part was pretty much the cheesy bread and garlic knots, as I mentioned. I would’ve been perfectly content with just having loads and loads of those appetizers, because the pizza was really underwhelming compared to the aforementioned goodies. That didn’t really make much sense to me. How is that possible? SPOOOKYYY! There was one door that was seemingly out of place. It turned out to just be a water heater. Very un-SPOOKY. Oh well. If you want pizza, might as well go and find a different spot — unless you’re a ghost hunter. Then you can bring your ghost-hunting equipment and grab some cheesy bread, which is perfect fuel for hunting some spooks.

I love pizza. I mean, I REALLYLOVEPIZZA!!! I do not love this pizza. The crust was stale & tuff. Overall it was very underwhelming. Also tried the spaghetti. The sauce was good, but the meatballs tasted weird. I don’t think I’ll be returning.

My group and I came here for lunch after the Underground Portland Walking Tour. I love the décor and ambiance of this place. I wanted to go upstairs(I thought I saw stairs…) but didn’t want to venture off and didn’t want to get into trouble! This place feels and looks haunted which immediately makes me like the place even more! We ordered the two large regular crust pies: one meaty pie and the other a veggie pie. It didn’t take long for the pies to come to our table. The meat pie was loaded with meats, some veggies and cheeses. It was nice and hot and I enjoyed both the meat and veggie pizzas. The dough/crust was lacking some flavor but everyone else in my group seemed to enjoy it. Service was great. We ordered two rounds of Patron and the lady behind the bar had a really heavy hand! We were a little buzzed walking out but it helped because it was rather cold that day! The pizza was just ok to me but it’s worth checking out if you’re in the area. Grab a drink and enjoy!

Old, very old building. Used to be a hotel. Lots of separate, cozy, rustic rooms with lots of brick and wood. You can have your own little cubby hole or room. Really cool stained glass lamps(all unique) placed throughout the dining areas. And stained-glass windows inset in some walls. They brew their own beer at $ 4.75 per pint and that is a good value. A short walk from the Pearl or downtown. On a Saturday night, there were a lots of couples and families with small children, which is interesting because Old Town is still kind of rough on the edges. Order upfront and a smiling server brings the pie to you. We ordered the thin crust crispy pizza. Slow cooked tomato sauce is delicious with a good garlic flavor – good taste of the sauce in every bite. Fresh mozzarella and feta smothered the pizza top. But the thin crust lacked flavor, did not do anything for me, no sweetness and not enough salt, just real plain, overcooked. I will come back and try the original style next time. But I like the vibe there. Fun! Convivial! Place to meet up!
