Oil Can Henry’s

Great place to get your car serviced on a regular basis. They are efficient, professional and provide excellent service. They check all of the fluids, cross check everything to ensure you have a safe driving machine. It only takes about 20 minutes.

Each time I have come to Oil Can Henry’s the experience has been fantastic. I comparison to Jiffy Lube, where be had mixed experiences that mostly leave me feeling up-​sold or hustled, the employees here have always been courteous, never pushy, and very informative. They are very professional, checking in with me on each aspect of the process.
We came here to get a standard oil change before a long winter trip and asked them to check on several other things that needed attention. The guys had a great attitude, despite it being toward the end of the day and close to 30° outside.
They helped us get not only an oil change, but a belt, filter, battery, and wipers too. Normally we don’t go for everything like this, but we knew we needed it and our car was long overdue. Also, I’m all for saving the maximum amount when it comes to these things, so I was hesitant to go ahead with it until the employee helped me find the best combination of discounts, including reminding me that I could save an additional 10% with my AAA membership. All in all, he helped me save close to $ 90, over 25% of the total cost! Not to mention a lot of driving to different locations and the time I would have spent installing things on my own.
Their superior service, laid back but professional attitude and our feeling of being well taken care of has made us loyal customers. We will definitely be back in the future.

Always helpful honest and professional, there’s a few guys that have been there a while that really go the extra mile. Everyone here seems to care about my car though!

The mechanic we had, Devon, verbally castrated my friend because we didn’t want synthetic oil. He was menacing and scary. I have never seen anything like it. I tried to make a video of my friend, while we were held hostage in our car… Devon was having nothing of it and told me I was being monitored on camera and that «corporate would come after me» if they reviewed their footage and found I had been filming… inside my car.
If you want to drive away $ 43 poorer for an Oil Change, wondering how you can ever get happy again after being traumatized by car maintenance, you should totally come here. Just horrible.

Coming here was ill-​advised, so bad on me. We’ve had ok experiences in the past for super simple things like oil changes. Terrible choice to come and have them do their recommended service like new battery and a belt. $ 400 later and now our car won’t START anymore despite being perfectly fine when we arrived for an oil change! $ 400 to have our car broken, and now we’re off to pay more to have an actual expert fix whatever they messed up. Do yourself a favor and take your car to a mechanic, these guys are clueless newbies in costumes and may end up costing way more time and money than you bargained for.
Update: brought the car to a real mechanic and paid $ 80 for them to figure out where Oil Can went wrong. His theory is that they initially connected the battery improperly and blew a fuse, and then couldn’t figure out what they’d done wrong and sent us home with a shrug. So, almost $ 500 down the drain but at least the second guy fixed it! Sad these folks can’t install a battery, seems pretty basic. Called to let them know and got a pretty combative/​defensive response denying their role; only way to complain is to come back down to the station and fill out paperwork in front of them. These guys aren’t worth the «convenience», take your business elsewhere.

Finally went for service this weekend and was impressed with the professional customer service experience I had here. We had to address a number if ‘extra’ issues. all the parts were on hand, the service was super quick, and these guys knew what they were doing. I will definitely be back and recommend this spot to others.

Amazing experience at Oil Can Henry’s this morning. I’ve been to quite a few locations, and the consistent knowledge and professionalism is something I’ve come to rely on.
This specific location is no different; My Upper Tech, Ricky, was extremely knowledgable and personable. These techs do not work on commission, but do present you with relevant service options that you really do need to keep your vehicle running smooth.
If you actually know your vehicle, do you research beforehand, and care about the longevity of your vehicle, selecting the correct services is extremely easy.
I recommend this location if you’re looking for a sit-​in vehicle service, full transparency about your vehicle’s condition, and friendly professionals who know what you need/don’t need for your vehicle.

What a day at Oil Can Henry’s…
I’m so not even good at car stuff, but once I drove up and was handed a newspaper (???) I knew I was in for some Disneyland-​level business. Ricky was super nice and not condescending at all when he said some auto-​gibberish and got back completely blank stares from me — he explained everything to me, and didn’t pressure me into buying anything I didn’t need. I didn’t have to get out of my car, I just felt like I was one of the guys, hanging out and watching the work on the (REALLY COOL??) tv screens next to me. Everything was relatively pain-​free, and it was even sort of fun, which I totally didn’t expect when I begrudgingly realized I needed to get my oil changed. They yell everything to each other, which is really entertaining. Honestly the only thing I can’t remember them doing is washing my windshield, even though it was listed on the checklist they gave me at the end as completed — but then again, I did show up with a dead bird under my car (I’m still so so soooo sorry guys!), so honestly, we were all understandably distracted.

I had a good experience here. I went mid day, sat in car for 20 minutes and it was done. Upselling happens of course, but that’s ubiquitous. Ever heard, «Would you like to see the dessert menu?»
I like that they shout out what they are checking as they go along. That way I can follow audibly and make an informed decision. I passed on the extra fluid changes they recommended for now, but I’ll go home and check my records to see if I’m in the mileage danger zone on any of them. I recommend Oil Can Henry’s in NW. Sure beats the appointment based system you find at many shops.

Been thinking of reviewing this spot for awhile, but hate giving bad reviews. I came in for a «straight up» oil change in my Subaru. The young man who was working on my car was obviously new, which I dont mind because everyone has to be new at some point right? Well, they should have a co-​worker with them at all times. When you are working on a 25k piece of equipment, you should be VERY careful. He broke the screw off in my airfilter recepticle, then offered to drill it out with a drill. NO. Then, proceeded to bang on something else under the hood with a wrench. Im not expert, but Im pretty sure that after about a dozen or more oil changes with no incident (At the Valvoline shop in Delta Park) There is really no reason to go after anything under my hood with a hammer! PLEASE– set new people up with better oversite and training.

Terrible business with predatory practices.
First, they refused to honor my coupon, since it was from another Oil Can Henry’s business. Every other one I’ve ever been to has always honored any coupon I had. This should have clued me in to what kind of business I was dealing with.
The guy then tried to upsell me every stupid little thing. When I said no to each one, he then convinced me to go for a higher-​mileage oil WITHOUT telling me that it would be an additional charge. When I got my bill, it was $ 20 higher than they quoted me.
The manager gave me two 3-​dollar coupons to try and compensate for the LIE. Six dollars was the amount of the original coupon I tried to use.
I have been to other OCH’s that had courteous, helpful, truthful, and efficient employees that did not lie about hidden costs and try to fleece me. This particular one is to be avoided at all costs.
SHAME on you for lying to me! I will NEVER be back to your business. I wish I could give you ZERO stars.

By far the worst service of any oil can Henry’s I have ever visited. I came on Friday and waited for an hour without my car being touched but had to leave for work. I came back today (Sunday) only to wait for almost 2 hours while 2 clueless guys ran around, dropped tools, and struggled to even change a brake light on a subaru, the only car in front of me 2 hours ago. Nobody bothered to give real time updates, only lure new potential victims in while the smarter ones turned away out of frustration or possible fear of starvation while waiting in line. I would easily have left 45 minutes ago except I’ve been blocked in by people behind me. The main mechanic seems to have an unexplainable ego and had spent more time shmoozing than fixing. Tells me he probably has no idea what he’s doing. I will definitely change my own oil or go anywhere else but here from now on!!!

This is one of the greediest places i have seen … I waited in line 20+ min. To have a car that was going to cost more for there oil change. that showed up 5 min before i was to get mine done to have tell me to switch spots and tell me it was going to take an extra 20+ min to get to my car … Thats great service … I will never go there and i think every one should go to jiffy lub

Told me it would be 15 minutes and then took 1 hour to get into garage. Understaffed. Management needs to rethink how they run this place.

They told me it would be 15 minutes when it was over an hour. When I finally got in to the garage, they wasted time selling me things that I didn’t need (even things that I had just had done). I was honest with him and told him that I needed to get this done as I didn’t expect to wait as long as I did. He asked if I wanted him to «just skip over all the extra things.» I said no, I wanted him to do everything, just don’t waste my time trying to sell me things I don’t need. They never checked my lights and I’m pretty convinced that they didn’t check a couple of my fluids. He may have misunderstood me, but I was quite disappointed with them this time.

The cheap prices and convenience are just not worth it. I get nervous coming here just for a simple oil change, it seems they don’t hardly pay attention to details, let alone much of anything. I once had a car that required synthetic oil, I had to tell them over and over and make sure I was incredibly clear with them on the type of oil they were using. The last time I went the guy actually left a tool in my car, shut the hood, and I drove away. It wasn’t even until a few weeks later that the wrench had shifted around and started sticking out the side of my hood and I no clue what was going on! I will say the employees are very nice and all, but what’s with the dorky uniforms? Just ridiculous!

The cost of the oil change is what I pay at the dealership… went here hoping to have better service than having to wait an hour plus at the dealership and miscommunication. Annddd… I was told I would be called when car was completed (I walked to get coffee in the neighborhood) — that didn’t happen, along with finding paper/​wood shavings on the driver side floor from one of the techs. Also, don’t mark on receipt that you cleaned my windows when it is apparent that didn’t happen. I cannot recommend this location, and will not chance a different location.

Had to go to seattle, but needed a quick 1000 mile oil change on my new VW Routan first (which is a reskinned Chrysler Town & Country, or Dodge Caravan) for proper engine break-​in. This gets all the crazy little bits of metal and detritus out that can really hurt an engine early in it’s life.
I want to keep this car for a loooooong time, so I want to do everything right. I have researched this extensively, and talked to several mechanics about it.
Basically, you always use plain old dinosaur oil or a semisynthetic blend. If you don’t break in an engine properly, or use synthetic oil too early, it will be a gas guzzler for the rest of its life. That’s why plain old dino is called for for the first 3k to 12k miles of every engine.
In fact, Risolone and several other companies make specific break in oil. The best oil for break in tends to be plain oil with high moly and zinc. Non-​synthetic racing oil also works for break in, since itshigh i n these metals.
Instead, Oil Can Henry’s takes your cars oife into it’s own hands and insists I use synthetic oil, which isn’t called for in my car until after the 10k mile mark. They won’t sell me anything else. Even though it’s too late to go anywhere that’s competent else before my trip. They’re now officially harming both my car and the environmental large.
That’s right, they insist that they destroy my engine by ensuring it won’t break in properly properly during this fragile and brief time.
Not only are they greedy by insisting I use a much more expensive, improper product, but they are also indulging in ecoterrorism, pure and simple.
An engine that isn’t broken in properly not only doesn’t produce power properly, it will also burn quarts of oil between each oil change due to improper valve seating and will suffer a permanent 2 to 5 mpg penalty.
Unbelievable douchery!
What these strong armed, overly insistent environment haters /​robber barrons are doing in a green city like Portland, I don’t know. I want them out! They don’t belong here.
They can go pollute some god awful town, where I’m sure they’ll have plenty of people who don’t research things enough to agree with them. Here, people actually read and ask around about such things!
