I’ve been here a few times over the years but most recently on my way to work seeking a hearty pre-shift meal. The gal at the counter was friendly, helpful and patient and apologized for forgetting to tell me the mugs are on the wall when I asked her for one. My food came out so fast and was great. I had the veggie garden scramble with gf toast and a decaf. So fairly priced! All the scrambles are $ 8.50 — something you don’t see much around this town anymore. I can see how it would be annoying to come in and be bombarded with children, as some of the other reviewers have said, but on a Tuesday afternoon before school is out I found the space to be pleasantly devoid of children and instead filled with the laughter of adults meeting up with their friends for a mimosa, some solid brunch and good conversation.

Well the hunt for a good breakfast joint continues. Does that tell you all you need to know? I decided to try this place after reading some obvious Homer reviews. As a first time customer i was greeted at the door by the regulars. You know the things that wouldnt leave. Sitting at a table and a booth and another table with their computer their book and both. Letting their kids run around the restaurant cause why not they live in the neighborhood and they spend their morning here milking the free coffee and using the internet cause its free. But i digress. After figuring out i was not going to be served sitting at a table. I noticed the small sign that says order at the counter. I was greeted by staff counting their tips. I waited patiently cause this is way more important than serving customers. I ordered coffee and bisuits and gravy. Waited for my cup or directions none came. Finally a fellow customer informed me cups were here and coffee was there. I went to the coffee bar. Coffee was empty. Cream was empty. Still counting tips. A short te later the coffee came out and then it was a wait for the cream. I was told i needed to let someone know if the cream was empty. Sorry i didnt know i had service responsibilities. The breakfast came out well disappointed is the best word. As you can see from my picture it was not traditional biscuits and gravy. It was some Thyme Rosemary garlic no meat gravy. While it did taste good it did not mention that on the menu or the chalkboard where it was listed. The eggs were barely cooked to the point where i questioned eating them. Ohhh Portland where is a good breakfest joint. This one is mediocre at best. Playing to hipsters hangout joint. I guess missed the memo of get it yourself amd let us know when we are not doing our job and a burger could be a gardenburger. I guess i should catch up on my hipness or just find a good breakfast place.

Finally gave this place a try the other day. Note to staff: When obviously new customers enter your joint, and make eye contact with you several times while unsure whether waiting to be seated or what. It would be nice to make an inviting gesture directing customers to the right location, rather than staring back and yawn(twice). Thanks, bored red-haired girl. The ordering process was pretty straight forward, plenty to choose from, Stumptown java… always a plus! When my order arrived I was a bit taken back by the size of the sandwich(for $ 9, I expected a bit more substance), and the side of sad, stale chips wasn’t very appealing. The sandwich itself was alright. It was supposed to have feta on it which was perhaps gently dusted on top of it? Stumptown coffee = delicious! Free refill.nice. My partner in crime ordered eggs with sausage and potatoes. It was OK. We left feeling underwhelmed by the food and the overall experience. The Stumptown coffee couldn’t save this one either. It was good though. The java was. 2 stars for this experience, and I’m open to give this place another try.
