Have been there a few times to play board games. I enjoy the atmosphere of the bar, but there aren’t many meal options for people who don’t eat animal products.

Tried it for dinner one night with my wife and a friend. Ick! My wife’s turkey sandwich looked like it was made from the scraps left on the platter after Thanksgiving. Little irregular sized chunks, not slices, and there was a few chunks of cartilage. The soup was not good and food was not any better. I remember breakfast here, years ago, was good but I don’t think I will come back if that is the quality of food they think it is OK to serve. It’s probably OK to drink here but I cannot recommend eating here.

Simply stopped in to play some pinball and skee ball. It was nice that the pinball machines were new and updated and current with today’s themes. The décor was very outdated but I hear the place is pretty good for big food portions and good times with the games. Crowd was friendly and overall atmosphere was jubilant. Will definitely come back to the pinball!

Mfp doesn’t have a traditional kitchen. Instead, the kind of cook you imagine would cook the food you’ve ordered pops into existence, working hard to satisfy your drunk ass. Recognize it for what it is, and remember you don’t have to clean up your own kitchen after cooking such a satisfying, greasy meal. Who cares if they clean this kitchen either? When you stumble in at 12:30 and your friend vanishes for a half an hour to play tunes… And the waiter drops off a massive plate covered in gravy… you know your ship has set sail. The light inside has got the kind of reddish tint that can only come from incandescent bulbs(those ‘illegal’ ones, kids) and stained glass lampshade covers. It’s the kind of light that still remembers cutting it’s way through layers of thick ciggarette smoke, and will never reach the corners or under the booths. NMFP has the kind of light that has seen everything, so when you walk in past midnight, it doesn’t accuse you of anything, and it doesn’t care. It’s the kind of light that’s there for you, but don’t feel too special — it’ll be there tomorrow night, too, for the next drunk, hungry bastard that stumbles in the front door. Of course, the menu is filled with the kind of food you want IMMEDIATELY upon ordering. It is utterly delicious at that moment in time and just about perfect. This feeling is increased immensely by the fact that your friends have shut up for ten minutes while they’re eating. Your gravy-covered fried-and-breaded meat selection begs for your attention, and the server person(might have been female on the last visit) keeps the coffee full. You might have to remember to cover your cup, in fact, if it takes you a few minutes to get the creamer-to-sugar ratio right, because as soon as you get it right someone will walk by and top it up. Sit at the counter or at a booth, or maybe a table if you think you can manage to sit upright for long enough. The whole place has that shadowy vibe. Its all worn out, but in a good way. This is a place to come if you’ve been drinking(have we established this yet?) with the following caveat: Don’t come here if your diet for the evening has ended in ‘bomb’ or ‘rita’ since you will overeat, guaranteed, and nobody wants to see your previous drinks on the table again. Take a break from eating and have a smoke out front, chat with the late-night rabble, and wait, forever, for your friend’s music to play. It won’t, because your friend didn’t notice someone had already spent like $ 20 on the jukebox, and you’ll be sitting through every Type-O Negative song on it. So just order another shot of Jameson — and some water to wash it down with — and slowly sink into the booth. They probably won’t kick you out.

Breakfast food is my first love, and this place does it right. Huge portions, small tab. If I’m not in the mood to try something new for breakfast this place is my first thought, especially if I have a hangover that makes me question my entire existence. It’s probably the darkest dive I’ve been in, at least if you sit in the bar section, and you can hide in a booth, drowning in greasy gravy with no judgement. OH, and get the chicken fried steak. You will not regret it.

This is a large and well established dive bar. They have three big spaces: a diner area, a bar room with a circular bar and a dining area with tables and booths and the third area is a game room with video poker, pinball, and skiball. I think they may have a few arcade games too. This is a long time family owned establishment. The décor is a vintage 50s diner style. The crowd that hangs out here is rough. Lots of men in a variety of ages but all rough blue collar types. There are often folks from the mission across the street hanging here too. On Wednesdays they have game night with a huge selection of games available to borrow and play. The place gets packed. There is a very cute and wonderful waiter named Ben who will take good care of you during daytime shifts. The food is rather run of the mill but dependably filling. I like eggs Benedict. It’s not awesome. But it’s solid.

The best greasy spoon in town. This place has dirty and delicious comfort food. You won’t find a better chicken fried steak so stop trying. Cheap food and drinks 21 hours a day. Get your butt down here on the game nights for over a hundred awesome board games.

Worst service ever during brunch. Wasn’t even busy and I was a server for 2 years. We left after an hour and a half and we hadn’t even gotten our food yet. Not sure if it was the kitchen staff or management’s fault. But I will never go back.

Divey in Portland is bleepin SHABBYCHIC everywhere else.(Im a transplant from the Bay Area). Divey Chic; My Fathers Place is dark, mysterious and groovy. Snapps to the Comfort food and portions! Jackie is a server extraordinaire! Excellent service on top of my accidental hat removal(my mama taught me that real men remove hats indoors) only you should ensure no server is walking up with a tray of water so you dont knock it out of their hands. ooooopsie daisies. oh btw. How cool is it they bring glasses of water without asking… so spoiled by the little things. something you learn to do without in the drought states… WATER Water and more Water… rain rain and more rain… Im good with the trade off.

I think I ordered incorrectly. I wouldn’t recommend getting an omelet here. That said, this place has a really nice vibe. The staff is friendly, they have a bar AND a lunch counter, and I feel like if I returned a few times I would get the hang of what to order. My husband was fine with his chicken fried steak. We left thinking the person in the kitchen that morning was one of their weaker cooks. Give it a shot. A rainy day here is a pretty good bet.

I was there on a Wednesday for a board gaming night. This was incredibly cool. They have a large collection of board and card games which you and your group can play. I think this is only on Wednesdays, but it bears mentioning. I decided on their chicken fried steak breakfast, and I was not disappointed. Very tasty, and pretty big portions. This plus a beer and a cider ran about $ 17. Not too bad at all. The only negative I can say is that the biscuit was not my style. It was more like hardtack. Other than that, the food was very tasty. Overall, good ambiance, good food, great times. And on Wednesdays, board games. Very very cool.

I love coming here on a weekend when I’m hungry and in the mood to sit in a booth with a hat pulled down low over my forehead, some loud music and non– judgmental service. This is one of the best places to go for a non anxiety inducing hangover helper… Bloody Mary — non deluxe — will set you straight. I usually stick to breakfast. It’s solid and unpretentious. I’ve ordered lunch items before because I wasn’t thinking straight and I am a true believer now that one needs a side of pancakes. Yes, needs. After breakfast and two bloody Mary’s you can go try to win a few bucks on video crack or play some pinball before heading back out into the wicked light of day. Pro tip: always sit in the bar side of the establishment.

3.5 stars. This is the place you want to go for pinball, touch tunes, hash browns, crinkle-cut fries, cheap dranks and … oddly enough… delicious infused vodkas(#PAF). If you like nacho cheese, try the hollandaise sauce on the side. This place isn’t fancy. Nor does it try to come off that way. It is what it is and it’s lovely in all it’s divey-glory.

I used to go here pretty often, like 10 years ago. I hadn’t been back in a long time(obviously) but fate found me having some beers nearby over the weekend. I was hungry, I had a craving… the craving’s name was chicken fried steak. I would not rest until I had it(alcohol does things to a person). Then I thought, oh yeah, that place is only a few blocks away! So I trudged down and around the corner and found MFP. I don’t think it’s changed much since my last visit but between the years and all the drinks(and whatever else that has killed my brain cells) it seemed very much the same as always. Flopping down in a booth and checking the menu confirmed, they had what my stomach and soul needed. I ordered it up along with some coffee(because coffee totally sobers you up, amirite??). Anyway, the chicken fried steak breakfast hit the spot, good amounts of gravy, eggs, hashbrowns. I walked away and for a moment in time had found my nirvana. Going to keep MFP in my back pocket should I ever find that the wind of life(or several beers) floats me in that direction again.

The place is pretty spacious and the music isn’t grossly loud. They have a good pour for $ 3 drinks, and they serve breakfast all night. Definitely a good place to eat, drink and catch up with some friends.

Le MFP´s est un grand classique de Portland pour déjeuner à tout heure ! Une ambiance conviviale et familiale dans un cadre typiquement américain.

Breakfast is relaxing and in town. I come here a few times a year with friends. Food is lower quality than Denny’s, but that’s not the reason to come. Service has usually been very slow, but on occasion good. It’s a neat place. Small selection of beer, but good prices on everything for location. Plenty of room to relax. The bar scene in the afternoon til night is okay.

I only eat here for breakfast, which is cheap & tasty! I’ve been coming here for over 17 years and love me some, Ms. Dee!!! *Great for drinks and breakfast, but sucks at everything else.

Great place to go when you need a bite and can’t decide. It’s more or less in the middle of it all, prices aren’t bad and the food isn’t either. I’ll admit I haven’t had anything here that’s blown me away(aside from the steak quesadilla, and not for the flavor but for the portion size — that thing was bigger than a dinner plate and over-stuffed). Service is usually not the greatest but they rarely have more than 2 – 3 people working outside the kitchen. At these prices, not going to complain!
