The 11th avenue location was my first introduction to Gelato and I found it to be brilliant. The new location or the only one that I have found with the same formula is this one Unfortunately the selection is rather limited but the flavor is the same as the Alphabet street one and I highly recommend it. The Morso coffee shop that houses this gelato location is beautiful & the waitresses are wonderful and helpful. 5 stars when the flavors increase.

FYI, this place is now called Morso. $ 4 gets you a regular cup, which I filled with chocolate and almond. Though the selection is small, the quality is high. And, the price is a deal for the quality.

Mio Gelato, how I long to go back as I am typing this now. It all started with a little sign, «Try our Salted Carmel Mocha». Twas’ posted in the window as I entered.(Well, since my boyfriend bought me a Salted Carmel Chocolate bar recently, I knew that mocha would be good.) I walked right in and asked for the Salted Carmel Mocha, the amazing sugar concoctionist asked if I wanted it Affogato. Once explained, my taste buds were watering, a yes exited my mouth, I paid, and awaited my new beverage experience. My best friend ordered a Gingerbread latte, she was very happy with it. She did try mine and murmured that was what she was getting next time, hahahah… Affogato is when the shots of espresso are on top of gelato(Yum! is an understatement). I am at a loss for words on how to describe the taste although I can say it is a repeater. We sat near the window, enjoyed watching people go in and out of Powels Book’s, and eventually we joined them once I was done licking my cup. The ambiance was pleasant and clean. Had a lovely time as my fist visit. Pure Deliciousness, looking forward to stopping there again whenever I am in Portland.

When I hesitantly went to D’Ambrosio gelato in Seattle I thought it was just the next hipster fad, I had eaten gelato before, what is the big deal? I was as pleasantly surprised at Mio Gelato as I was at my favorite gelato spot back home. The real winner here was the peach sorbetto. It was perfectly creamy with the most perfect ripe peach flavor that I’ve ever had in any frozen treat. The mascarpone gelato was sweet and rich and delicious. I came back the next day for a scoop of the pistachio with a shot of espresso. The pistachio was sweet and nutty without any of that neon green artificialness that some pistachio flavored things have. The texture on everything was perfect, the service was fast, and there were plenty of seats. The only downside of this place was the bathroom. It wasn’t filthy or anything but I wouldn’t really call it clean. It’s hard to keep downtown bathrooms clean without seriously restricting access and they were doing a decent enough job of it so I won’t knock off a star, I’ll just wait till I get back to the hotel next time.

This is a very dependable gelato shop. I’m a regular. I would indulge nightly if I lived closer. It’s creamy, smooth with a variety of flavors. They also serve coffee, sandwiches and small pastries.. Indoor/outdoor seating. Late hours! Their punch card comes in handy if you develop a gelato relationship Free gelato is the best gelato!

It was… just ok. It was nothing spectacular, but it was not terrible. Décor was nice and they had plenty of flavors. I asked for a cone, they put a couple of scoops in it, I paid for it, and they handed it to me. Gelato vs ice cream? I’m so ignorant, I can’t quite tell the difference. Hey — it was cold and it was like ice cream and it was delicious and it satisfied my cravings and yes this is a run-on sentence. I had the green tea gelato. Tasted like green tea. And gelato. So there you go. :0)

Went here again recently and the gelato is alright. It is pretty standard fare for a gelato shop, and have flavors one would expect if they were going to eat gelato. I had a small cup of oro de oro, which was light, somewhat sweet and just creamy enough. On the flip side, and why this review is not 4 stars: The staff seemed absolutely miserable, and there was dark emo music playing in the shop that influenced what would have been an uneventful experience. The atmosphere and negative energy from the staff made me feel depressed. No one in the entire store was smiling, and the feel was hushed and tense. Very odd for a gelato shop.

Gelato is their name and gelato is what they do. They have a good selection of flavors to choose from. Fatty, non-fat, low-fat, there is something for everyone. If you are having a hard time deciding which one to go for, they are happy to let you sample first. My recommendation: Try the tiramisu. It is really good.

The staff did not seem very happy to be there, then again it was around closing time on a Friday night… I expected better from this place based on the reviews, but really, it is just a standard gelato shop. I had a mix of the hazelnut and tiramisu. The flavors were staples, nothing outrageous or loaded with flavor. The prices are reasonable and the location is convenient.

This place is really a staple for a quick treat. If you are in the mood for a little something and don’t know what want, just stop in and they will have a flavor that will help ya. So many good combos to mix and match. Also another great thing is they have new flavors that are added and changed. So when you stop in there will be a little treat each time. Please take a quick stop in and try it for yourself.

I’ve gone to this place for a long time, and I have really enjoyed it. But last year, we stopped by for chocolate gelato, and while we were eating, we watched the person behind the counter dip her spoon into the gelato tray and eat it and then dip again as she casually talked to the manager. She used the same spoon over and over again. When we ordered, she had told us that the gelato we tried was«her favorite» and that was the one she was eating. It was disgusting. And so, I emailed Mio Gelato to tell them and they never responded. It’s been a year, and maybe they’re better now, but yuck, I don’t want to take the chance. What’s the deal? Mio Gelato?

Cute little place with plenty of gelato flavors that I’ve not seen elsewhere. And now serving beer and wine? I’m not sure how they«pair» together with gelato(har har), but I’ll give them an extra point for having the option. The guy working there was really friendly and I sampled a couple flavors first before making my decision on banana and mascarpone. Both, I was happy with.

Good gelato but i’m bias… :) Its a little on the heavier side for gelato(IMO). The flavors i tried were Yogurt and Mango; the Yogurt flavor is a little creamy(not tart) and the mango flavor reminds me of kerns mango drink. THe prices are decent and the staff are nice with samples :). This place is a little better than okay, i would recommend a try or two :). Pros: Staff, quantity Cons: Could be better… :) Stars: 3.25

They should do an iPhone commercial with this place. — You’re a trendy, well-to-do, urban sophisticate wrapping up an evening in Portland’s chic Pearl district. You want a dessert to cap off the night, but oh wherever will we go? (cue the latest song from a previously little-heard indie artist that’s about to be on SNL within six months because they were in an Apple ad) Wait honey, let me pull up my Unilocal app on my iPhone 4 and do a search for sorbet.(because, you know, only mainstream folks go for ice cream.) Mio Gelato popped up. Well that right around the corner. Thanks Steve Jobs!!! — But really, this place makes you feel kinda cool just being there. Of course the staff have a bit of a Portland edge to them, but they are nice. The sorbet is nice too. A lot nice. I got two scoops, orange and watermelon. Definitely beats frozen yogurt. If you’re ever in the Pearl and want to cool down in the summer heat… go here! This place gets high marks in local publications for a reason.

I love Mio Gelato’s Double Scoop Cake Cones. That is why I liked going there and I wish I could find another place that had those — cause after this past weekend, I think I need to get my gelato fix elsewhere. The gelato was fine — the cinnamon was the usual pleasant, good-tasting treat and the marscapone flavor was OK. The marscapone tasted kind of coconutty which was not something I really like. The service is why I will not be going back. After scooping my double scoop cake cone, the girl put the cone in the holder near the register and the whole thing toppled over with my cone landing gelato-side down with half of it on the pile of napkins and the other half on the counter. She picked it up, pulled off the napkin that was sticking to the gelato and held it out to me while saying, «This is OK, right? Or do you need me to re-scoop this for you?» With a passive-aggressive tone and a look on her face that said, «You’re not REALLY gonna make me re-scoop this, are you?» I was so shocked that I took the cone in my hand and said, «Uh, I am guessing that your counters are clean.» And she said, «Oh yeah! Of course!» and she took another napkin and wiped the gelato off of the counter. I turned to my husband and he could see that I was disturbed. He also knows I try not to be a confrontational person so when I told him what happened, he started to take it back to the register area. When she saw him approach, she said, «Do you want me to re-do that? I mean, it fell on a napkin.» As if I were over-reacting. As if it is OK to serve food that you dropped. As if we were in the wrong. And if it had fallen only on the napkins, then why did she have to wipe the gelato off of the counter? I mean, there was a gouge on the side where it hit the side of the plate that the napkins sit on. I wrote a letter to Mio Gelato about the experience(almost verbatim what I posted here) and asked for a response so I would know that they addressed the issue, but I still have not heard back, so I am posting my review and judging their service not only by the server’s gross practice of serving food that she has dropped, but also their lack of response to my concerns. I sincerely hope that they do not train their servers to serve food that has been dropped, regardless of where it fell.

Please note: I have not been to Italy. I did, however, have some gelato-like substance in Prague one time from a weird store near the train station for the equivalent of thirty cents. My parents and sister rave about this stuff in its homeland and like to rub it in(unintentionally, I’m sure) that I am the only one in the B. squad who has not Amor’d Roma. That said: When it’s hot out or it’s cold out or I just have a sweet tooth for an icy substance(most days), there are few places that I think of over and over again like I do Mio. Sure, it’s not«actually Italian»(whatever that means). But confound it, I like this place. Tatiana M., my pistachio princessa, and I, more a citrus signore, have many a time waltz’d into this Pearl location after avoiding OSPIRG day-ruiners and drooling over Sur la Table. I’m always tempted to get a double helping of some sort of berry(raspberry is delicious) and a citrus(lime may beat out lemon for me), but inevitably decide to either get one scoop of grapefruit(think about being socked in the mouth with a grapefruit and living to tell the tale, it’s like that: wonderful) or to share a scoop with TM. It’s rich stuff, this. Don’t be fooled by the sizes of the cups. Once full, they are more of an undertaking than their likeness in ice cream. On occasion I’ll get an espresso and sit at one of the tall tables while I finish my treat. For a moment I can pretend that I’m toodling around in Tuscany, while still staying stateside.

If you’re a fan of the gelato(or even ice cream) then visit Mio Gelato. Great taste of gelato aside, the ambiance was casual and comfortable. The service was sarcastic yet helpful. And the music was fun old time jazz(the good stuff). We stopped in here after a big dinner for something refreshing and we found it. I’m not much of a chocolate guy but had the chocolate hazelnut and I don’t regret it. It was dense, delicious and decadent. It’s inexpensive and the portions size were large. Go give it a whirl and then walk off the calories at Powell’s book store!

I’m glad to see that the Froyo craze that has seem to run rampant here in LA has not spread to the beautiful city of Portland. Seriously, I thought it’d be like a life-sucking virus and spread out beyond California. Thankfully it has not. However, Portland does have it’s share of gelato and ice cream shops. This chain has several locations all throughout Portland and overall seemed to be the overall favorite among those living and working Portland. I wanted to get some walking in since downtown Portland is totally walkable, so I parked at Pioneer Place which is at NW3rd and Alder and this particular Mio Gelato is at 11th and Burnside. About 8 blocks West and another 4? North. In LA, that might be a lot, but in Portland, it’s VERY manageable. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the guy behind the counter. Typical gelato display case with about… 20? flavors? There were some gelato regulars like bacio(hazelnut), mint, some sorbettos, and… well, you know. I tried a few flavors before deciding on blackberry(I should’ve asked if it was Oregon blackberry) and orange cointreau. The 2 scoops cost me… I forget… $ 3.50? Not bad considering the price of gourmet ice cream and gelato costs about that much. I went outside and parked myself at one of their outdoor tables and people watched as I ate my gelato. Both flavors were really good and as tempted as I was to get more, I didn’t. Definitely know where to get gelato whenever I’m in Portland.
