Simply put — one of the best sushi bars in PDX. Always fresh, always consistent. The service has become better over the past year or so. A while back, there were a couple oblivious servers but I haven’t seen them in a while. I’ll be back over and over again… One suggestion: GETASAHIBLACK. –1 star for the meh atmosphere. It feels like a strip mall restaurant.

Best sushi we have had in Portland and super duper cheap if you go during happy hour! I think it was 4 – 6? But everything was just a couple bucks, we got out of there under $ 50 for 4 people with drinks and my husband had the chefs choice sashimi player which was $ 18 and worth every dime!

I’ve been here two times now! I love it! My husband and I were just in tonight and had great sushi. The chef even brought over some free dessert when we were done! So nice! It’s hard to find at first, but it’s sandwiches in between a bike shop and Roscoe’s.

I am so glad I found Miyamoto. Unobtrusively located blocks away from car dealerships and Taco Bell, Miyamoto is hidden away from the casual eye. But, the friendly knowledgable service and the fresh, expertly prepared sushi does not go without notice. My boyfriend and I were craving some good sushi on a Sunday night, and as he was leaving town early the next morning, we were camped out near the airport. Miyamoto was close and perfect for our needs. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, and took a seat at the sushi bar. The bar is slightly too high to watch the chefs at work, which is one of my favorite parts of sushi restaurants. But, a small quibble in the scheme of things. I ordered a sake called 10,000 Ways, ostensibly because it pairs well with 10,000 foods. It was served in a masu, a small box. Our server explained that pouring sake and overflowing it into the masu signals the wealth and generosity of the restaurant traditionally. I say Arigato to that! The chef prepared a small appetizer bowl for each of us while we waited for our sushi orders. I think it was some sort of spicy squid, bamboo, and pickled vegetables. It was so delicious! We ordered the Miyamoto roll, the Montavillian roll, and tuna sashimi with chili ponzu. Fresh, delicious, and tasty! The Miyamoto roll had soft buttery scallops and a soy paper wrap that melted in the mouth, and the chili ponzu was delicious! Just when we though we were stuffed, the chef said«All done?» And handed us a bowl with three sesame balls, delicious little pastries with white sesame seeds on the outside and a light, sweet, black sesame paste filling. It tasted like peanut butter in the best way possible. Thanks for a delicious last night in Portland, Miyamoto!

My kids love sushi and we’re always looking for new places to explore on the Eastside. Other reviews led us here and we were completely surprised with the quality and cleanliness. The menu has all of the standards(all done well) as well as some fun non-traditional options like the Jalepeno Ninjas which are Japanese styled Jalepeno poppers. Montavilla has some true gems for food and drink and we gladly add this to our list of regular spots. Have sushi here and walk down the street for cocktails at Vintage.

The boyfriend wanted sushi, and the boyfriend gets what he wants. After a quick browse on the Unilocal app, I learn that Miyamoto is not only the closest reputable sushi bar to my new house, but also that it’s pretty dang adored by the Unilocaliverse. After enjoying one heck of a meal at Miyamoto, I’m happy to report that the masses have not ran me astray. This place is legit! The million dollar question: How’s the sushi? Well, gentle readers, allow me to say that it is solidly 4 stars! We both opted for the chef’s choice nigiri special, which was 8(or 9, I can’t remember) incredibly generous portions of nigiri, each easily a couple of bites. There was a nice variety of fish presented, with the expected tuna and salmon mixed in with some more unique offerings like clam and conch. Served with a side of miso soup, it was $ 17 per person, a pretty reasonable price, for an abundance of seemingly quite fresh sushi. Oh, we also got a roll. It’s been a week or so since I ate there, so I forget the details. I do know that it was VERY large, much bigger than either of us had expected. The restaurant itself is kinda blah. It’s clean and well maintained, but sort of dull. I don’t necessarily need my sushi restaurants to look like a Disney version of Japan, but I doubt anybody is ever going to Miyamoto for the atmosphere. Service, however, is worth a mention. The staff were all friendly, knowledgeable and personable. They worked well together as a team, and our needs were always filled, whether I was asking for information or yet another refill on my water(I’m a thirsty guy!). I’ll be back!

The sushi at Miyamoto was fantastic. We tried several different dishes, including Monkey Brain, which was amazing! My boyfriend and I met another couple there for dinner on a Sunday evening and I’m not sure if it is normally understaffed during this time, but it caused our sever and food to have significant delays. It took at least 20 minutes for our server to come and grab our drink order, and then another 20 minutes before she came back to grab our food order. It was at least another 45 minutes after that we waited until our food started to come out. Worth the wait? Most definitely. The sushi here is outstanding! Unfortunately, the service on this particular evening was lacking, which was a shame.

We enjoyed all the rolls and appetizers we tried– the menu has a pretty good variety of rolls, though heavy on shellfish like many sushi places. Pretty small beer selection, but more sake options. Service was friendly but slow; we were disappointed when we informed our server of a shellfish allergy at our table, yet the person with an allergy had his rolls served on plates with rolls with shellfish, which is less than ideal. I’d return for the delicious food, but couldn’t recommend this place to anyone with food allergies unless next time the food is served with more care.

Went here twice in the last few weeks. First time was during happy hour, second time was on Valentine’s day. Both times it was quite enjoyable. They have a veggie sushi plate that I love, and since I dont care for fish, its right up my alley. Ive been told the poki is down right delightful. And the slices of fish are not at all skimpy. I will definitely be returning.

This just happened to be the closest sushi place on a recent search, but DAMN, I’m glad I found it! Prices are pretty average, atmosphere is whatever, but DAMN the sushi was good. They’re doing some fun, creative rolls and the presentation is top notch. I love the wacky rolls with crunchies and sauces, and both that I tried were really good. Even a regular tuna roll was way better than I’ve had from most places. As a cherry on top, they also serve beer from Roscoes next door.(I think you can also buy the sushi next door).

This intimate sushi experience is situated off a side street of Stark in the Montavilla neighborhood of East Portland. You may think you googled the address wrong from the lack of light but once you walk in the door, you’ll know you’re in the right place. All of the staff are knowledgeable and helpful and I credit one in particular in sparking my interest in a delicious fish I would have normally never ordered! An item my boyfriend and I order every time we come is their seaweed salad! I am attaching a picture. It is utterly perfect. Every bite has components of salty, savory, vinegar and freshness. I could eat this seaweed salad everyday, oh and by the way, the presentation is beautiful.

Black Tiger Roll is wonderfully delicious and you should definitely give it a try — who doesn’t love the idea of tempura shrimp and wasabi cream, among other tasty goodies? The best part of this sushi is that you can order from Roscoe’s(ye amazing beer taproom) and sit in the bar with your ridiculous craft beer while they bring you fishy goodies. You should most definitely take advantage of both of these beauties right at the same time — just ask the Roscoe’s staff for a sushi menu!

Hidden little sushi joint near roscoes. Only been here two times and each time was enjoyable. The staff is friendly and if you sit by the bar and see the asian sushi chef — Make convo! We found out some of them work at Masu(a trendy sushi place downtown very $$$) So you’re getting quite a deal here by only paying ½ price compared to Masu! They have great happy hour from 4−6PM everyday and you get a decent selection of rolls and beer. The only thing that bothered me were the amount of flys that slip in through the door. Other than that, great place. Fish is pretty fresh, great selection of beers and casual environment! What to eat: Get the monkey brains, Hawaiian poke salad as appetizers. You won’t regret! :)

No complaints! Food was delicious. We paid around $ 11 per roll for the special rolls. They were huge rolls that came with about 8 pieces. Right as we sat down we were handed a yummy asian salad to snack on. Food was quick. Wine was good! And our waitress was very sweet and gave us some good food recommendations. Initially we thought it was closed from the outside because it looks dark but it wasn’t. If it looks dark from the outside, don’t hesitate! Want to come back for happy hour!

The word on the streets said…” dude, ya gotta check this place out man” I came here to try basically two things. 1. Monkey Brains ~ Get This 2. Stuffed Jalapeños.ya that’s right… Get This Sometimes I’ll hear someone talking about or I will read about a certain dish that a restaurant is doing that is uniquely different. This peek my interest. Both these items did not disappoint. Monkey Brains is an avocado with basically crab inside. to me this was more of a meal than a appetizer. Stuffed Jalapeños …I know… at a sushi joint. but, it was very good ! Trust me. I also had the Aloha Roll, this was just OK a little on the room temp side for my taste. Service was very consistent and helpful. If you just came here for the Monkey Brains and a cold beer… you will leave happy.

The best uni & ikura handroll, ever. Too bad it’s only a weekend thing — I want to eat this every day. The«monkey brains» is an excellent appetizer — get this if you love avocado.

This place is a gem! I found it on Unilocal and headed over but as I approached the front door, I was worried it would be a hole in the wall(just not the environment I was going for at the moment) or uncomfortable, but it was quite spacious with a very comfortable casual feel. The menu is legit. Its actually a very japanese menu but the place feels inviting to people who are not so familiar. I saw pictures of the monkey brain which looks amazing but what really sold me was the uni and ikura hand roll picture I saw. Too bad they didn’t have uni today. I got the sashimi market, ikura nigiri, and a takoyaki. All delicious and well-executed. I think most of the items are very fairly priced as well! They also have a decently big sake menu.
