I cannot recommend this establishment. There are many, many, many other competent restaurants/bars in Portand that would be a far better place to spend your time and money. Don’t go here hoping«the other reviewers are wrong». They’re not wrong. This business is wrong.

Came here with my bff for a paint night. I read previous reviews and was a little skeptical of this place. However to my disappointment reviews were correct. Had one server and one bartender for over +25 people… I came extra earlier to make sure we got food and drink… Over 35 minutes and still no fries. When I asked our server she simply said I’ll check for you then walked away. 10 minutes later still no fries

Great music and drinks! Haven’t tried the foods yet. Will definitely go back. The old club had no dancing but several people were up dancing and having a fabulous time. Great people watching.

I came here to hear a friend sing. The owner was friendly and service was very kind spirited. A little expensive menu.

This place has got to get it together before the excellent acts they host start losing audience members because we can’t put up with the service. They try to be nice here. But they appear to have no idea what they’re doing. They wait 20 minutes before bothering to bring you a menu. You order a drink and wait another 20 for it to come — oh, and that’s the only one you’ll get all night, because they’ll never come back to see if you want another. Heaven forfend you want food — prepare to wait up to an hour for something unpleasant. The last time I was there, not only did all of the above happen, but they also forgot the amount of their own cover charge: one amount came out on the bill, they took our cards, and then came back to say«oh actually it’s five dollars more so that’s what we’ll be charging you for.» They didn’t even have the class to comp us for their mistake! Mazza’s, we WANT to like you. HIREMORE(COMPETENT) STAFF. You are losing money because you can’t get it together enough to bring a second drink for folks who came ready to get toasted!

As a lifelong performer, I REALLY wanted to like this place. I will always go out of my way to support any restuarant or bar that hosts live music and actually PAYS their performers, especially when they host something that’s a little off-beat. The Mont Chris Hubbard Bonus show w/The Doubleclicks was fantastic, engaging, and very funny; almost worth the bland, soggy food and the inattentively unskilled service. Between dinner and the show, we were there for about 4 hours. Waited at least 15 minutes to order drinks and didn’t receive them(or water to sip on) for another fifteen(this with a fairly light pre-show house as we arrived an hour before anything started). The trend continued as, over the next 4 hours that we were there, our server only came back 3 or 4 times(and never re-filled the afformentioned water). Though the evening continued to be brusque and clumsy, I was hoping that the food would make up for the off-putting service(as seems to happen around a number of restaurants in this town), but what we received was $ 19 lasagna with the texture of wet play-doh(smothered in what I can only imagine was Western Family canned meat sauce) and a cheap drive-through burger served with the strangest soggy«fries» I’ve ever been served(thin potato slices that felt and tasted like been basted for 30 minutes in lukewarm fry-oil); all for the bargain price of $ 15. Combine that with an amateurish cocktail that amounted to $ 9.50 worth of soda water and maraschino cherries and you, sir, have a night the remember. I can only assume that this place is run by well-intentioned owners who are doing there best to support some of the great performers around town. I appreciate this goal. I applaud this goal; they just need to hire someone else to run the rest of the building. Please get better. I would love to see a good, quality venue like this succeed.

Sadly, it was awful. I give it an extra star for the bands. Mont Chris Hubbard was fantastic. The Doubleclicks were, as usual, great. Our server, who was the only server for all the tables all night, did one thing on each trip to the dining room. One, single, thing. All night. Patrons, including us, failed to flag her down. I hate to think what it would have been like if the owner hadn’t been helping her deliver food. We arrived 45 minutes before the show in hopes of eating dinner before the music started. Ha! It was 15 minutes before we got menus and water, and 40 minutes before we got our first drinks. The table next to us waited over 30 minutes before they got menus or water. We wanted to like them so much. They were so friendly and sincere. But the food was awful and the service was worse. Go if your friends are playing, but eat before and drink after. p. s. there are only three vegetarian things on the not so adventurous menu: a bad hummus plate, an adequate veggie burger, and a bad pasta primavera. Nothing at all for vegetarian children.

What a fun night… A great piano bar wth Mike Horsfall! Some of the singers even did some back up singing for Mike. Really a nice evening. The new chef seems to be on target, the lasagna was delicious. The waitstaff very warm, friendly and efficient.

Went to Mazza’s last night to support a performing friend. When we arrived, we found out that her show had been cancelled(no biggie & Matt was very apologetic). We decided to stay for a drink, to support the local establishment. When paying our tab, for our beers, they tacked on a «cover charge.» I paid it and didn’t complain, but I probably should have. Will I go again… sure. But I’ll probably ask more questions next time about extra charges.

I understand that this place only opened a few weeks ago, but they still have a lot of kinks to work out. I went to a 7:30 show and got there an hour early for dinner. Being early made no difference it took over an hour to get our food, some parties waited two hours. The table next to me only got half of their meals and the owner comped the other half. I can’t say that the staff didn’t hustle, because they were slammed and they were doing their best. However, they didn’t have time to check on patrons. I am sure the kitchen was overwhelmed because everyone came in at the same time. I ordered salmon caesar salad. The last bite of salmon tasted really fishy though. The fish was hot, but I would have preferred it if the fish were chilled and might not have had to wait so long to get it. My friend had the chicken dish, she said it was burnt and didn’t finish it. She didn’t receive her side salad either. Mr. Mazza was waiting tables all night so he couldn’t facilitate issues or check on diners. He needed one or two more servers and someone expediting in the kitchen. The menu was nothing special. A better menu might be more small plates and appetizers. Also, I sat at a long bench, which could use a good steam cleaning, with tables so close together I had to wait for someone on the end to get up so I could use the restroom. The bench was too low for the table. That space might be more practical for a low table and bar food than dinner. This is a music club. So until you hear better eat beforehand, go for the show, which was fabulous, and drinks, our wine was good.

Matt Mazza has taken over the old location of Tony Starlight’s Supperclub & Lounge on Sandy, and is keeping many of the same music shows and piano bars, and adding some new musical flavors. I’ve already been to a few shows and was happy to see a lot of familiar faces at the piano bar on Wednesday evenings(I was a regular at Tony’s). It’s still a work in progress, and he’s adding décor weekly. But the food has been great, and the service warm and friendly. I’m going to support him as much as I can, because Portland needs places with live music and too many have been closing down recently. They are totally open to feedback as they are getting off the ground. Have some dinner and enjoy a show.
