Nutty Monkey Smoothie is more a shake and very good. The sandwiches suffered from rolls that were a bit too dense and not quite fresh. Nice corner to sit outside and people watch.

Super chill spot for doing work. Wifi is reliable. The breakfast sandwiches are well-made/prepared and the staff is very friendly. And they serve great coffee Only wish it were closer– I’d gladly swap out a few spots out of my hood for a place like this.

Love that the people who work here are nice(vs cafes in portland in general)! The food is awesome. Wish they had Steven smith green tea.

Darling little place to tuck in from the chill. Hubby had a coffee and I, a mocha, both hit the spot. Bagel breakfast sandwiches were tasty and filling so no room for the pastries that were tempting. We will visit again. The staff was kind and welcoming. The restroom was CLEAN! That is never under appreciated.

Great little find. I had the«Blast» sandwich which can best be described as a healthy recreation of a BLT. It was wonderful. The other sandwiches sounded delicious but I don’t know if I can return and not order the Blast. Staff was super friendly and helpful. I will be back

the most amazing scone i’ve ever had and i am not a scone person. the only reason i got one was because it was«cheddar and bacon» and it was beyond delicious. i went in again today and got the tomato«danish» which was similar to danish in texture but no sweet coating, it was all savory tomato, feta and garlic, maybe some parm too? so good. i also ordered a half dozen of the bacon and cheddar scones next time they make a batch. i don’t think they always have them. i am going to freeze them and try to control myself…

This is one of my favorite bakeries. I love their scones and cinnamon rolls. Comfortable atmosphere to hang out too.

UPDATE: Brook, the owner, went above and beyond to address our previous issue with poor service. We were able to meet with her in person, and she offered a replacement of the original coconut milk latte that was perfectly made and very tasty. She genuinely seems to care about customer service and ensuring that everyone who visits has a great experience. I am happy to update my previous review and will gladly visit Madrona again.

Update: So, the owner contacted me about my review and my concerns. She has been extremely interested in addressing the situation that led to a lesser review. I have to say, her care and concern for the business is really nice, and really refreshing. My friend and I stopped in and had a very nice talk with her, had a nice coffee and a couple nice tasting pastries. I liked this place the first time I went. I liked it this most recent time I went. And, it seems that customer services issues have been addressed and the staff was extremely pleasant and welcoming to every person coming through the door. It’s clear that ownership really cares about the success of the business, the quality of the product, and a fun experience for customers. That changes everything for me. I’ll be back, and I think I can certainly recommend Madrona Hill Café to others now. BTW — It’s a great place to stop on a bike ride! It’s right off of Ainsworth, a bike street, right near Greeley wrapping around the bluff and overlooking Portland downtown. The Max isn’t far, in case you want to bike one way and ride back the other. There are bike racks surrounding the front of it, and outdoor seating. I was riding my bike the first time I went there, and riding the last time I went there.

Since this place reopened under new ownership, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in the food. I love that there are so many fresh baked goody options. I’m kind of obsessed with the monkey bread, and I love that they have water avenue coffee. This has turned into the beloved neighborhood coffee shop I always wanted.

This is one of my favorite spots in NEPDX! Its super cute and has a decent menu of real food and smoothies, as well as epic caffeinated drinks! My favorite is the matcha latte. I first tried it at Madrona, and have since looked for it at other cafes. I have found that only the Madrona spot can make it taste amazing, with the right proportions. It is my absolute favorite now-and I’ll drive from across town to grab one. The staff are so welcoming! Great service at this spot.

This place… What can I say? I am here all the time. They sever Water Avenue coffee here. IMHO this is far superior to the Starbucksesque coffee severe in many Portland cafés. They make a mean mocha here that is not too sweet. The food is simple, freshly constructed and good. Nothing fancy pants or pretentious here. They have rotating art works on display that are well placed and for sale. Hopefully you will see my stuff on the walls soon… Hint, Hint I am an artists who loves to chill in a window and draw. That is exactly where you will find me when I am here. If I come in and you are occupying the black comfy chairs in the huge window please relocate. I kid, I kid. There is plenty of room for everyone here. There are outlets for the laptop lovers and lots of natural light for the bookworms. Special note: the music playing here is freaking perfect 95% of the time. Thank you for not running us all out with pop music or excessive volume. I have to say too, the people working here are awesome sauce, nice. Their morning to evening smiles brighten my day every time I venture in. There are quite a few neighborhood regulars but it’s great to see PDX adventurers coming in to check out MY café too. I really enjoy just hanging out and relaxing while watching the world go by just outside the windows. I’m calling this place my favorite offsite living room.

Newly remodeled, super cute, good food and great service. Yummy baked goods :) I haven’t had coffee here yet, but my friends say it’s good. Located at the corner of N. Greeley & Ainsworth. Parking can be difficult, especially weekday mornings and weekends.

*JOY* Madrona Hill has reopened and they are better than before! Honestly though, the coffee addict in me is super excited to have another coffee shop within short walking distance to my house. Their coffee is fresh and tasty(free refills if you hang out). They offer free WiFi and have quite a few tables with lots of room to spread out and study or whatever else one might need to do. They have a menu with pastries and some amazing looking sandwiches. I look forward to trying them sometime soon. They are in the process of getting a liquor license so beer, wine, and other tasty beverages are on their way(I was told January-ish). If you have been to Madrona Hill before their remodel, you must stop back in. It looks like a completely new coffee shop! With all my school work I will for sure be spending some time here.
