Lloyd Center Ice Rink

Ummm… can we really call it ice skating when there large puddles everywhere. The excuse of mgmt is the they must have «turned off the compressors.» No apology and certainly no offer of a refund for the $ 66 our family of 4 spent to skate. Never, not ever coming back.

My first time ice skating and it was great the ice was a little choppy but all in all it was really nice

Over the years I hv watched ths place and it’s equipment deteriorate while visitor prices continue to increase. The last and final time I took my kids I shelled out sm serious $. They spent all of 30 mins out on the ice. 30 mins!
It was once nostalgic and one could actually SKATE the ice. It’s a loss @ this point. Hell, the whole of Lloyd Center is @ a near complete loss anymore.

After enjoying the zoo, we took a quick trip to the ice rink to finish the day. It was the first time skating for our two kids. Once they picked it up, it was enjoyable for them. They had so much fun… we stayed for over three hours!

Awesome to be able to skate in the middle of the mall. I always feel like eyes are on my as I glide across the ice perfecting my triple axel. Be I the look out for Tanya Harding as she once graced this very ice.

It’s always nice when your kids school district has a different spring break than others then you have almost the entire rink to yourself. Plus it’s nice when you have a chinook book 2 for 1 discount! That way less people to skate into and you go your own speed. My kids love it here because there’s more ambience here vs a detached skate rink.

As it is in the middle of the mall, it is understandabale, it is overcrowded. But what sucks is they need to clan the ice more often! It was full of holes and cuts!
There were more then a few «rude» people who cut me off and would come up super fast then cut by me making me feel like I was going to fall. It almost seemed like a few of these people maby even worked there? I duno but no one seemed to be watching or care, it was like a free for all.
I will be looking for a better maintained and less crouded ice rink…

I myself don’t Ice Skate but have a feeling I will learn. (My Girl likes to skate.) I enjoy taking a break from all the shopping and relax while watching people skate around.
The kids are my favorite to watch skate around, having fun. Some are pretty good. It’s funny to watch people walk around the rink by holding the rail. There are plenty of comfy seats to sit and relax. OR you could always rent skates.

You can’t beat the prices! But like with anything that you pay little for don’t expect it to be grand. It was a large rink but being in the center of a shopping mall attracts so many people. The ice had to many groves to enjoy and the lockers were very dirty and half were not working. The staff at the ticket desk was very friendly. However the girl who gave us our skates was extremely rude and unhelpful. Overall it’s a cheap way of entertainment you get what you pay for. Probably won’t go back again.

The ice was terrible! NO seriously, there were so many grooves you could barely stay straight up for 30 seconds!!!
The prices are too high. Too crowded!!!

The place is kind of dirty and not well maintained.

The ends of the rink can get a little melted so try to fall in other areas if you would. It’s pretty miserable getting soaked in this environment.
My butt hurts. My ankles feel like they were used for Tetherball strings.
Take 4 quarters for the locker. At least no one was talking on a phone this time.

I like this rink because there are so many Groupons available and it is really convenient to where I live. But, it is not a great ice rink. It is usually pretty busy, and because it is inside and completely open to the mall, the ice melts very easily. There are sometimes puddles and even a few minutes after zamboniing, the ice is full of skate marks and other hazards to people (like me) who are not very steady on the ice. I think it is better in the winter when it is generally colder, but in the summer it seemed particularly bad.

My experience at the skating rink at Lloyd center was so bad I made a Unilocal account just to write this review.
To start, the skates are uncomfortable. They hurt my feet within minutes of getting on the ice, and left a bruise on my boyfriend’s ankles. The entire rink is just chaos, it is overcrowded and there are no regulations. People cut you off, skate against the flow of everyone, block the exit, and practice their tricks anywhere they please, all without the staff doing anything about it. Also, the staff are rude. My boyfriend was knocked over by a girl doing a pirouette (where she shouldn’t have been practicing her fancy turns) and was then scolded by a staff member and told to «be more careful.» When he politely mentioned that the ice rink was a little chaotic, the staff member basically told him to get over it. Lastly, every time you want to use one of the tiny lockers, it is $ 0.75. And I mean EVERY time. $ 0.75 to lock it the first time. If you unlock it because you need to get something out, you will have to pay another $ 0.75 to lock it again. So there is no saving money by sharing a locker with friends, because if someone needs to leave early, that’s just more money you will waste on to this already over priced ice rink.
If I think about it, I paid more than the amount of minutes I spent on the ice, and I had a groupon! Save yourself a bitter experience and go to the movie theater instead. I will never be coming back this ice rink.

For the Second time in the last 4-​weeks I’ve taken my 7-​yr old daughter skating. Yes, we still have our fun BUT the HUGE puddles that stay at both ends of the ice are DANGEROUS and GETTING OLD. It’s really lousY because when a little girl is learning to skate, she falls a couple of times. Instead of just a little ice shavings she gets SOAKED in cold water. She wanted to leave because she was shivering and I don’t blame her for feeling miserable.
These are not normal ice conditions: the puddles are still there 40 minutes after the Zamboni resurfaces and stay until it comes out again and pushes the water around. We are talking a couple hundred sq. feet of ice covered by water at each end.
The refrigeration needs maintenance and repair. This sloppy ice should not happen consistently, at both ends over the course of many weeks. Commented to the staff and got no answer as to whether this is considered a problem (they’re teenagers, that’s not surprising).
This is a family activity, and the conditions are not appropriate for kids to have to bear the brunt of.
I can overlook not sharpening the rental skates (thanks penny pinching owner !) but to let the ice be so massively sloppy because you are a slimy cheap bastard is not cool at all (pun intended).

I’ve been taking adult figure-​skating lessons here for a few months now. My experience has been great. No shame or humiliation involved in wanted to get back to skating now that I’m an adult. Our teacher, Olga, is very understanding and welcoming to adult learners. I’m in her adult Freestyle class on Monday nights, which has a range of adults in terms of age and skill. Adult Freestyle on Monday nights is very laid back and when the ice is cleared for lessons it’s a bit easier to practice than during open skate sessions, when it’s hard to even find a spot to spin or jump.
Anyway, this is by no means the nicest rink I’ve ever skated at — it’s definitely a product of its location and history. Remember, Tonya Harding got her start here. The lockers are shoddy. The ice is never smooth. Jackasses throw french fries from the food court overlooking the rink. But it’s our rink, Portland’s only rink. It caters to adults. It’s not crazy competitive. And they have a yearly holiday show, open to all skate students. So if you’re around in December, see if you catch the holiday acts making their way across the ice.

This is a great child friendly activity.

the rental equipment is in very poor condition and the ice rink was severely over occupied. I recommend skating during the week as well as bringjng your own equipment!!!

I’m not a skater, but I wanted a Zuca bag to keep my knitting/​spinning supplies in where a lot of walking would be involved. I thought I’d have to order one online, but just for kicks decided to call the store at Lloyd Center to see if they had the color I wanted, and sure enough, they did. So today I drove in and picked it up.
Don, who helped me over the phone, was there shortly after I arrived, and he was extremely friendly and helpful, showing me the different features of the bag. I was really impressed with his knowledge and attentiveness to my needs.
I was so happy to find my Zuca bag here; I saved a lot on shipping and I’d much rather support local businesses when I can. And it was lots of fun watching the skaters, too.

Hoping to find family friendly activities I can do with my friends who have children, I decided to make a family date invitation for the ice rink at the Lloyd Center. Not only was it inexpensive (for hours of exercise), but the kids all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Well, except one big kid; my grown up friend, who got into her skates but never made it out onto the rink further than 10 feet. I actually got more entertainment hearing her excuses as to why she should not go out onto the ice («I could fall and hit my head!) than I did watching the little ones skate circles around me.
I will pat myself on the back though and say that I was much better than I thought I’d be. Not because I’m a natural, but because I had lessons 30 years ago. You know that saying «It’s like riding a bike?» Well, that pertained to me. Ironically, I am the one person of the planet who actually forgot how to ride a bike, but ice-​skating was a breeze.
Although the rink was pretty full, we had more than enough room to skate.
I also liked that the middle was pretty open to do my stunts (snicker, snicker) like spin slowly in circles. When I say slowly, I mean, very slowly.
They have a wide range of boot sizes and cheap lockers and plenty of sitting room for people like my friend, who ended up just cheering us on from the sidelines.
I’d totally go back, if for no other reason than to get some rain-​free exercise (versus running outdoors)

This is a good place to come skating, but if you’re wanting to do anything more advanced than skate in a counter-​clockwise circle, you’ll probably want to skip the public skating sessions and hit one of the freestyle sessions.
The look of the rink is nice, situated smack-​dab in the middle of the mall, which gives it a little bit of a Rockefeller Square sort of feel.
The rental area and bathrooms down below have a dungeon feel to them, and could use some renovating, or at least heavy cleaning.
