I enjoyed Kobos Coffee while eating breakfast at nearby Meriwethers Restaurant, so I stooped in to purchase a pound of Caffe Monteverdi and another of their French Roast beans. The two staff members I met were very pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere was well-lit and relaxed as I sipped a cup of the Caffe Monteverdi and browsed a number of kitchen accessories, teas and coffee supplies. WiFi is available without charge. There is room for small groups(2 – 6 people) to meet informally or discuss business, and there are parking spaces for several(compact) vehicles at the front of the shop. I paused to write a few notes as I sipped my coffee and nibbled a chocolate croissant, then pressed on with the day’s priorities but I’m pleased to have stopped in and I will certainly return.

Cool coffee shop and store! They have all of your coffee, tea, and kitchen supply needs. Lot’s of space to walk around and check everything out. Few parking spots directly up front and good coffee.

I drive by this place every day on the way to work and finally started to stop in within the last few months when I had extra time in the morning or needed an extra boost in the afternoon. Great little spot – in a world dominated by mermaids and companies that like to promote their brand with annoying stickers, the coffee at Kobos speaks for itself. The staff is always friendly and quick to make a drink; be decisive and keep it simple(I can’t blame them for getting upset when someone changes their mind mid-order or after the other customer faux pas expressed by a couple others on this page – seriously, get over yourselves, folks); enjoy the well-thought-out tip jar.

Cute place, good coffee. It’s more of a coffee supply and kitchen gift shop(it has everything you could possibly need for all kinds of coffee making) that also has drinks available. Meaning, it’s not a cozy place I would stay and do work at, but it is a place I meet co-workers for quick meetings and coffee. And there’s a parking lot. It’s a tight fit and a bit awkward, but it’s a parking lot none-the-less, which is nice.

I go here 3 – 5 times a week. They have decent coffee and offer 1 free refill every day. The staff is super friendly and has good service. I’m not sure what Googly Eyes and Girly Mustache products are doing in there, but it doesn’t matter too much.

$ 2TUESDAYICEDCOFFEES!!! Kobos Coffee(est. 1973) has been gracing Portland with small batches of coffee. They say good things come in small packages. I think Kobos is one of them. This hidden gem is a dark horse. I must confess that I’m not really a coffee drinker. If you know be my now, I ONLY drink coffee if I need to study. So I don’t really need caffeine as much as others. [drank] *ICEDCOFFEE(option of syrup flavor of choice) for their $ 2 Tuesday special, you get a 12 ounce cup of iced coffee. I chose to have hazelnut as my flavor. Strong and clean flavors. Although I’m not a coffee afficionado, I thought it was a decent drink on a warm day to study. FYI = –Small parking lot up front, but there is additional parking around the corner –Bathrooms are at the front down a hallway –Loose leaf teas available here –Fresh coffee beans sold here(organic, fair-trade coffee available) –Follow them on Facebook and Twitter –Coffee equipment and knick knacks also available(as well as for teas and espressos) –4 to 5 tables of four tops so you can read your newspaper or study(power strips available on the floor if you need to charge your phone or laptop) –Accepts CC’s My experience at Kobos wasn’t too shabby! I wouldn’t mind coming back here! Unilocal 2013100+ Reviews Challenge(going for 200!) — Review #168

OK, here’s where Unilocal and serendipity come together. Was staying in the Silver Cloud Inn in Portland. It’s a nice place, reasonably priced, and they include a decent breakfast in the room rate. The coffee, however, is pretty standard stuff, and I was in the mood for some dark roast with personality. Grabbed my trusty I-Phone and hit up Unilocal for coffee in Portland. Kobos was half a block away! Ordered a cuppa dark with a splash of ½ and ½…ambrosia! Nice atmosphere, too, although the chairs aren’t meant for comfy lingering. A couple of sofas and this place would softly rock me into coffee heaven.

I crave this place’s coffee like none other. Hands down, the best roast in Portland(RIP Coffee People). I overdose on coffee on the daily, so really, it shouldn’t matter to my taste buds where my fix is coming from. I should be able to guzzle most anything, but I was raised by a coffee snob, and well… here we are! Everything from their light roast to their darkest bean, is immaculate in taste. The baristas are super chill and friendly. The space itself is welcoming and brimming with kitchen wares and coffee accessories to suit even the pickiest retailer – it’s practically a gift shop in there. And they do deals on their drinks: for example, Thursdays(I believe, could be Tuesdays) are $ 2 mochas, Wednesdays are $ 1 drip coffee, etc. What’s really special to me about this place, is that i’ve been coming here with my daddy since I was a little girl. He wouldnt’ let me drink coffee till I was 12, but he’d always order me a hot chocolate with a few chocolate covered espresso beans nestled on the lid. So cute. Just the other day, he had to drop something off at my apartment in NW and I get a text ten minutes before his arrival reading«i’m at kobos do u want anything». HEHE. Love my dad, love Kobos, and the memories I have of this place. I’ll support them for as long as I live here. (I will say though, that the parking lot gives me crazy anxiety, as it’s very small and if you’re trying to exit the parking lot during heavy traffic hours – good luck!)

Great freshly roasted coffee. The beans are always fresh, roasted on the premises, so I can have perfect coffee at home. Not like stale grocery store varieties. Interesting shop with high quality products. Friendly staff. This is one of the roasters I love to visit when in Portland. Have been here many times and plan to return!

I wish I could comment on their coffee. I was visiting Portland area coffee shops. Stumptown was a great experience. They suggested I try a number of other coffee roasters in the Portland area including Kobos. I arrived 10 minutes after they closed the doors. I asked the woman that was changing their roadside sign if she had any other recommendations for me to try in Portland area. I think the response was something like …“aah NO… I really don’t have a need to try any other place” as she glanced back at their locked front door! So I’ll give them one Star for the great aroma spilling out of the locked front doors and another for a great retail shop for coffee lovers as seen through the windows. I think I’ll head back to Stumptown to grab a cup of coffee for my trip up to Seattle.

I. Love. Coffee. And had very high expectations of sampling some of the best while in Portland on vacation. People raved about the coffee starting with an «S» in this town but for me their coffee was weak and disappointing.(Not to mention their service was so very poor.) At breakfast one morning I was served the cup I had been searching for. The server told me it was Kobos coffee and the specific roast I had was Café Feminino which was organically grown. It was absolutely the BEST cup of coffee I’ve ever had. dark, rich, smooth… Heaven!!! Finally made it to their store to find they only had a half-pound left of this deliciousness. I’m going to order online. I was told the coffee is roasted daily in small batches and it’s shipped out the day the order is received. If you’re like me and love your coffee, skip the«S» stuff and head straight to Kobos.

I’m not a huge fan of this place. Their soy milk tastes kind of salty– and their coffee is so hot it’s hard to drink. Other then that though, I love the caramel cider during the fall, and the staff are really great!

Their tea is awesome. Just had my first cup of the Irish Breakfast lose leaf and I’m sold. Been shopping here on and off for coffee, tea and kitchen stuff and have always had a good experience. great service, great selection, parking, what isn’t to love.

Oh, my favorite coffee roaster, why oh why are you so out of the way?!? Yet still I go the extra mile(or two) for your luscious brews, and heavenly beans! I know of no other roaster that still sells TRUE Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee… and you can watch them roast right there! No mysteriously vacuum packed bricks of age defying beans as found in the large chain coffee houses. And my favorite, yet child like love, is walking out and having my clothes smell like their coffee!

The staff here needs to get with it. My mom asked the cashier how much the muffins were and he had absolutely no clue($ 2.50, FYI, and so not worth it). My sister ordered a hot latte, but changed her mind after she ordered and asked the barista if she could get a cold latte instead. The barista shot her the meanest look and said she’d already heated up the milk so no. C’mon, is throwing out a quarter of a cup of milk really that much of an issue? if it makes the customer happy I think its an easy trade-off. Kudos to Kobos for their Bargain days, though. Tuesday is $ 1.50 latte day, Wednesday is $ 1 drip coffee day, and Thursday is $ 1.50 mocha day. And perusing the kitchen knick knacks has its merits(I now know how to use those Bialetti stovetop percolators).

visiting fam got a gift certificate to here for Christmas, so a bunch of us headed over to spend it! I perused the teapots and such for a bit, but didn’t feel I had to have anything. very large space and accommodating to our medium-sized group of seven. the staff pretty much left us alone, let us be loud-ish, and didn’t send us any dirty looks… that we noticed. had a really good white chocolate mocha, but heard their regular drip was just O.K.

This place was fun — I mean the staff was bad but the coffee was good and they have tons of kitchen items to go through. Lots of high end cooking, coffee, & tea stuff. Definitely worth a stop
