Kalani Apartments

I moved from New York in 2009 and luckily found Kalani Apartments. I have never had any problems with management for as long as I’ve lived there, in fact there were many times where the management went above and beyond what they needed to do to insure I was happy there. Aside from management, the complex itself is excellent. They have a special free pile for tenants where I scored a ton of great things such as coffee tables, books, a sewing machine, a sega dreamcast etc. My neighbors were very friendly and kept mostly to themselves, but there is a community garden that the tenants are welcome to use.
What I really loved about this complex is the location. It is an ideal spot for someone who enjoys being outside or going for walks. Right down the street is beautiful Laurelhurst Park (designed by Olmsted so it was almost like having a little Central Park). There is also the Portland Nursery down the road on Stark, and of course Mt. Tabor is not too far away either.
Kalani is a very pleasant and easy place to live. Its down the street from Whole Foods and very close to TWO of Portland’s best cafes (Crema and Oblique). It’s also conveniently located right by Burnside, so getting into the city is a piece of cake.
If i had the choice to stay at Kalani I would have! Unfortunately, I had to leave Portland for Utah to work. This place will always feel like home though!

I was very interested into moving into this apartment complex. It is in a great location and the complex itself looked very nice. I work a 9 – 5 job, so my boyfriend had scheduled an appointment for a walkthrough. At the walkthrough, he was told that another couple had already expressed interest in the apartment but that there was another one that was opening in about 2 – 3 weeks. My boyfriend told her we would like the one that opened up later if we couldn’t get into the first one. He scheduled an appointment at 9am (her office hours are 9 – 5, so it would be her first appointment) the next day so that we could both turn in our applications and pay a deposit. She assured him that if we came in at 9, we would be able to secure that apartment.
Well, we went in the next day and we arrived at 8:55am for our appointment. When we met with the manager, she told us that she had just given the apartment to someone else, who had came in at 8:45am.
Now I would understand if she had done this if we had not shown up for our scheduled meeting. But we were on time and she gave away the apartment she had assured my boyfriend the previous day that she would save for us and she had told him there were no other applicants at that time. Not only that, but I had to take time off of work to make this appointment and that time was also wasted.
Based off of this, I would not recommend this apartment complex, because the manager won’t keep even basic agreements.
