Joy Wok is a Portland institution. I remember when the ground was razed and it was built back in the 90’s. When it burnt down a few years later, my family’s hearts sank thinking it would not return — but it rose from the ashes! Alas, having returned to Joy Wok many years later I see not much has changed. Might even have the same goldfish. The menu still has the same green paper and 90’s typeface. Love it. You get huge portions. Two if not three people can easily share 1 order of fried rice. Food is pretty good, especially the House-version of anything(has more meats etc in it). I recommend doing takeout, letting the food sit for an hour or two, then eating it. For some reason this makes the tastes pop!

We love this place. It’s near our home. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The portions are enormous so we don’t have to spend very much to feed our entire family, $ 25 and all 4 of us are fed with plenty left over. I couldn’t be happier having them nearby to satisfy my daughters’ love of shrimp chow mein.

The food wasn’t fantastic but it wasn’t bad either. I went here on a recommendation from a family member. Unlike most Chinese food I’ve had, this food was not coated in grease and oil however, sometimes that is really just what you want. House fried rice was the best out of what we ordered. The chow mein was dry and not greasy which I enjoyed but it also lacked flavor. The sesame chicken was okay — it had some flavor. The pot stickers were bland and unremarkable.

Food was so so. General Tsos was the best. Beef with broccoli, and kung pao shrimp had no flavor. Disappointing as we live nearby.

A great family-run place. Women in the front, men cooking in the back. More than half of the menu seems to be on hand-written signs under the posted menu. Huge portions that are definitely worth the price. Good portion of fresh vegetables with each dish. The eggrolls are not worth the guilty-pleasure splurge, kind-of bland with lots of cabbage. I agree that the ambiance is not the best. The perfect I-don’t-want-to-cook-what-can-I –pick-up nights.

I really like their portion sizes for the price paid. They are always very fast, friendly and the food is great and healthy. It is conveniently located very close to St. Vincent hospital. I enjoyed the 5 spice chicken and sweet and sour chicken.

Ambiance is so-so. White lights kill the atmosphere. Taste is fast-food quality. Price is too high for this concept. I tried the tofu dish at $ 7.50 which was ok. But then Brocolli Beef is $ 11. Panda Express has better deal for their price with better taste for this kind of fast food concept. A better place to go for a more authentic dine-in Chinese food experience with the appropriate price range would be Chinatown Express on Murray Blvd and Walker Rd.

The Mandrin beef is th best. The won ton soup is ok, at best, but I am a won ton soup snob so I’m picky. Great BBQ pork. Quick service for take out. I’ll be a frequent customer

Wish I could give Joy Wok 100 stars! Have been eating here for 10+ years. Always yummy, reasonably priced and HUGE portions. I love their House Special Fries Rice, potstickers, hot/sour soup, sweet/sour chicken, cashew chicken, broccoli beef, and fried tofu.

I love Joy Wok! Been eating there for 25 years except for the period when that end of the shopping center burned down. Very healthy food. A tad pricey but reasonable considering the quality of the food. I like it that many of the employees have been there for decades. It’s nice to eat at a place where everyone knows you.

It’s a neighbor place. I have been here a few times and I like their chicken & broccoli and I ask them to use the spicy garlic sauce and it is so good. Also I get their sweet & sour chicken and its good also. I like the taste of the batter they use. I like the option of getting brown rice, a lot of places don’t give you that option.

The word«healthy» in their title is rather misleading here, as I’ve yet to order a dish that wasn’t soaked in oil and sauce. Whenever I get my order, I take it over to the trash can and drain out the inch of sauce and oil that’s sitting in the bottom of the container. GROSS! And whatever you do, DON’T order the«fried rice». It takes nothing like traditional fried rice, and more closely resembles oily, steamed white rice with defrosted frozen peas and carrots. Their steamed rice is usually pretty dry, so unless you’re putting your dish over it, I wouldn’t plan on eating it plain, or even with soy sauce. Unfortunately this is one of my only food choices near my office, so I go more often than I’d like. I guess the food is passable. Their portions are huge, so plan on getting a to-go box if you’re eating in. The ladies working the counter are generally pretty nice, so no gripes about the service.

An above average neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Gourmet, no. Well worth the visit, yes. Very fresh food, perfect for Portlanders. Let’s face it. This is not a great city for Chinese food. But, these guys deliver high quality Americanized Chinese food that is worth the trip. Note, this isn’t a ‘date night’ restaurant. It is perfect for a quick meal or take out. The service is friendly and I’ve always gotten smiles.

Delicious! They have great sauces. I would recommend that you try their tofu dishes(such as the sautéed broccoli and tofu in brown sauce(order it spicy for a little more kick). Also the General Tso Chicken is tasty and higher quality chicken than most places. In my opinion, the best chinese food in the Beaverton/Cedar Mill area. My only complaint is they close at 8:30 which is too early!

Gonna make this short and sweet. If i was stranded on a desert island, I would want my ipod, a green thumb, and an unlimited supply of Joy Wok special fried rice.

I live sort of near this place and had driven by it 100’s of times before I actually stopped by. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and hot and sour soup. I was very pleasantly surprised. The food healthy and delicious, not exactly what I expected from a strip mall Chinese food place. Since then I have gotten take out from them at least 30 times and every time it has been great. The kitchen is open(when was the last time you saw that at a Chinese place?) and the staff is very friendly. If you want healthy Chinese food in a hurry, this is a great place to go.

Ok but really oily… in fact I had to tilt my plate so the oil would pool into the corner. Taste of food was average at best. Let’s put it this way, there is a Subway across the parking lot. When I pulled into this shopping center I was trying to decide between the two. I wish I had gone to Subway… I was gonna go three stars then they wanted .50 cents to refill my soft drink. BUST!!! Never to return.

Ok here is my problem with this place.(Visit three or four now) Bland. Perfectly cooked chicken, perfectly cooked broccoli, fluffy brown rice($ 1 extra for rice, $ 1for chicken substitution since its not on menu but broccoli beef is). But kind of a weird clearish flavorless brothy sauce on chicken. No ginger, garlic, salt, soy, onion nothing. Joyless. Service ok but rather bland and joyless too, maybe because I’m not a regular. What was especially hard to watch was, while I was eating my food, their staff served up and sat down to their«family meal» and it looked great. A huge bowl of interesting noodles with another huge bowl of some kind of meat glistening with delicious sauce which they all ate with chopsticks busily laughing slurping and chatting away. Their food looked and smelled fantastic. Sigh. Whatever that was, wasnt on the menu. I looked. Still looking for my favorite Chinese in my hood. This isnt it. Unless maybe I go work there.
