Its a family place so no one should be complaining about the speed of service or the website. Come on. The food is really good, though not all equal. Ask them whats good tonight and they will tell you. Its four blocks from our house and we rely on it for take out all the time. Great family too.

I really want to like this place but I just can’t. The only plus is that you can get delivery from Amazon and their garlic naan is good. We ordered veggie samosas, veg korma and a chicken makani. Over all, the food was so bland! The korma was clearly made with frozen veg and lacked depth in flavor. The chicken was dark chicken shredded and had the strange crunchy parts that you just don’t want in your curry. The sauce was creamy but totally lacked spices. I would recommend going over to Hawthorne and eating at Dwarka. Well worth getting delivery dish or driving over myself for pick up.

I really really really love this place. The ambiance could use a little flair, but the owners are fantastic, the food is phenomenal, and I have yet to try something that I don’t like. There’s never a wait, and plenty of space for groups. Thumbs up and highly recommended. ***parking can be tough

Ordered take out tonight first time trying it out. Was craving fresh Indian, so gave it a go. Wait was an hour bc they were busy and it was Saturday so understandable… and maybe even a good sign? Anyway we ordered chicken vindaloo in hot and sag paneer in medium. Vindaloo was tasty and had some good homemade flavor to it. Spice level more like mild +…sag was nourishing and comforting but ultimately bland. Price was steep for portions provided($ 26 with an order of nan) but I know Indian food is time intensive, so… idk it satisfied my craving but wish it had more bam !! whole spices, jump out at u flavor overall. That’s how I like my Indian food, and know it’s possible but maybe not in Portland?

Enjoyed a delicious lunch today. My wife needs dishes with little to no spice, and they’re very good at accomodating this(unlike many Indian restaurants). We got there just a few minutes before their 2:30 lunch closing time, but they graciously took good care of us and never rushed us. I had the malai kofta, which is delicious. The sauce was mild as requested, and the pre-made nut balls have a bit of kick in them. My wife had the saag paneer, which she liked a lot. We have to drive about a half hour to get there, but it’s worth it for tasty Indian dishes. Parking in that part of town can be a hassle, but wasn’t too bad today. Our total lunch for two was $ 31 before tip, which is reasonable for what we got. Portion sizes were plenty for us, with a bit left over to take home.

Yesterday I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and I have to say that it was the worst I’ve ever had. If I wasn’t so hungry I would have given this food away or thrown it in my compost. The chicken was way overcooked, dry, and poor tasting. The sauce was tolerable, but nothing more than that. On top of that the serving size was meager and barely filling. I ordered through Amazon Prime Now and I don’t know if they make it worse for those purchasing it this way, but I won’t be ordering it this way anymore. Sorry India Oven, but this first impression was extremely disappointing. =(

OMG! This place is amazingband incredibly delicious. My wife and have made this our new regular Indian stop for sit-down dinner. Run by an Indian family mom and dad are in the kitchen and the adult kids still work the tables. They are all super friendly and easy to talk to Every dish we’ve tried has been spectacular. The nann is fluffy and crispy… And the chai… Is addictive! If you haven’t visited yet… Do it now.

Finally got the chance to try Indian Food here at India Oven. The food was exceptionally good. The flavor was amazing. The service was good this is a little mom & pop operation with authentic cuisine. I would recommend this place & would love to come back.

Man. OVERPRICED! This place is pretty bad. And I always give good reviews. The food is mediocre, service is almost non existent because they were understaffed and they charge for extra rice. What kind of Indian restaurant charges extra for rice. Man.

If you want authentic, family operated Indian Food, go to India Oven! We are hooked on the Navratten Korma and the chutneys are superb. I have eaten at India Oven over 10 times and each time we have had excellent service. I honestly feel that this place deserves more customers. I have eaten at many restaurants in Portland and India Oven is my absolute favorite restaurant.

Food is fine here, BUT: I had the worst customer service experience ever trying to order take out. Picture this: I’m on the cell phone calling in wanting to order 3 items to go. 2 orders in I’m wanting a 3rd dish but don’t know what they offer that fits. So I try several ideas & Nope, ‘not on menu.’ They say ‘go to web site’ & figure it out. I say ‘I’m ready, want to order Now & can’t go to web site.’ They insist I do & hang up on me. I call back trying again. I’m told ‘you don’t know what you want & we will not serve you, don’t ever call here again, we will not serve you.’ Aghast, I’ve never encountered such unhelpful ‘service’ in my life!!! So I assured them I would not ever be. A service-oriented restaurant would have tried to help me make a choice or told me what was close on the menu — nope! No attempt to resolve the question or preserve the placed order whatsoever! Just rejection. It’s now mutual…

Its very hard to find authentic Indian food in states, every single indian restaurant i hv been to, are all influenced by american taste. I feel the food served here is very delicious and often reminds me about a Dhaba in India. The staff specially owner(sardar ji) is very generous, he even gave free desserts to us couple of times. I liked their aalo tikki, malai kofta n navratan korma. I think its the best Indian restaurant in Portland.

Far and away the best Indian food in town. Many folks here are making typical American complaints: it’s too slow, portions are too small, etc. 1. Yes, it does take a little while to get your food because everything is made to order. This is also why it’s so delicious! 2. And for those saying the meals are too small? That’s ridiculous. My boyfriend and I eat here and *always* leave with to-go packs. Always. Delicious, home-made, satisfying food. Plus, the staff has always been kind to us. When we’re in a hurry, we call ahead and get our food to-go. When we’re looking for a romantic date, ready to catch up with each other about our busy week, we get a table and enjoy our time together. If you want a delicious, home-cooked meal from a restaurant, go to India Oven. If you want super fast service and low prices, go to TGIFridays.

Overpriced unimpressive food with very bad service. Our server never once came to check on us after taking our order. Really? You expect a tip for that? The raita had to be ordered as a side, and was impressively bad. Plain yogurt would have tasted better. Nan did not come with any meal either. I ordered tandoori chicken and it was flavorless and dried out. Every meal was supposed to come with rice, but we were only brought two and that was not enough. Two orders of nan were also forgotten. I wouldn’t go back here for a free meal. Overall I really disliked this place, the food, and the service.

I don’t get how someone would even rate them less than 5 stars. Family owned, and thee best food around. You gotta be careful though, their Chicken Tikki Masala is EXTREMELYADDICTING. I always order it for dinner and even order a side to take home for lunches. I don’t think the staff could ever have a bad day, always super nice and friendly. Only wish they’d move their location back out to Downtown Gresham close to where I live. But always worth the drive.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Portland. Indian food is usually very heavy and oily, but here everything is so light and the ingredients are so freshly prepared with love, in plain sight, from the spacious dining room. The service is kind and prompt, and my husband wants you to know they have a great IPA on tap. They have a large selection of vegetarian dishes, which is something we really appreciate! Be sure to order MORE stars for spice than you normally would, as they err on the milder side. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we do!

Portland is seriously lacking in Authentic Indian food. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food at Indian Oven. I ordered the lentils and garlic naan. I asked for the lentils to be hot(the highest level) and they were perfect for me. The spices were complex, not at all bland. I also appreciate the fact that nothing was too greasy, which can be the case with a lot of Indian restaurants. The garlic naan was sooo good — perfectly bubbly and slightly charred. Everything is served family style — each dish is brought out and then one bowl of rice to share. The portions are much smaller that most Indian restaurants, which is good but not when the prices are just as high if not higher… The service was a whole different story. Don’t try and change anything about the dishes. My friend wanted a chicken dish but also some vegetables so she wanted to add chicken to a veggie dish and they told us this was not possible and didn’t explain why… it was just a very odd interaction. They then tried to up-sell by telling her to order both dishes and that it would be fine… you can’t expect people to order two dishes for one person when the prices are so high. I addition, I often ask servers which dish they think is best and the only response I got was that they are very different… and basically just read off the menu the description of each item. Not very helpful… I also asked ‘how hot is medium’ and he responded«it’s a level under hot…» Once again… so very informative. OVERALL — delicious food but bad service that made me feel quite uncomfortable.

I’m not sure what is up lately, but the last few meals I’ve eaten out have been bland. Bland and Indian food are not two words you ever hear together, but my entire party agreed that somehow, the spices and flavor were muted. Not to say that the food wasn’t ok. We ordered chicken tikka masala, sag paneer and some shrimp and mushroom dish. We also ordered raita which was not my favorite. However, the food was definitely fresh and cooked well. The garlic naan was weird as it had huge chunks of raw garlic on top which is not something I’ve seen before. I wasn’t a huge fan, but the regular naan underneath it was good so I scraped off the garlic and had the naan. The restaurant is clean and has a nice feel to it. We were all very excited to eat there but alas, the food was not what we all had hoped. If you are someone who is just getting introduced to Indian food and are not a huge fan of a lot of flavor, than this place is probably good for you. Otherwise, if you’re like me and love some flavorful Indian food, I would pass it by.

The food here is spiced perfectly and so delicious. The vegetable pakoras were fantastic and the order was large. The muttar paneer and the vegetable Kofta were perfect. The Kofta was creamy, had a rich curry flavor and was delectably spicy. The garlic naan was the perfect texture and garlicky. Yum! The inside of the restaurant was a little run down and a little dim. The owner or manager was pleasant and waited on us part of the time. The other servers/busers were not as friendly. People have mentioned in reviews that the portions were small, but we had plenty of food and took some home. Parking was easy and we were sat immediately.

Couldn’t give it 4 stars but definitely a solid 3 and a half stars. My wife and I were craving Indian food and of course checked out Unilocal first. We decided to try India Oven for lunch. When we walked in we were greeted warmly. Casual place and Indian music playing(a little loud for me) but tolerable. We ordered samosas; tandoori chicken; lamb curry; naan bread and pirahta. Samosa was flaky and filling was very tasty. Tandoori chicken was ok. Seemed overlooked. Naan bread was perfect but I was expecting the pirahta to be chewy and more crispy at the same time as that was what I was used to growing up in SE Asia. Lamb curry was the standout! Amazing flavor; perfect seasoning and tender morsels cooked perfectly. We finished the whole dish and mopped up the extra sauce with the naan bread. Service was very quick and very friendly. Will go back to try other dishes and have some more lamb curry too.
