These guys just did an amazing full resole on my «heritage» workbooks in 2 days! If you want to actually wear your shoes while they’re still in style this is the place to go. Others have ridiculous wait times.

The rubber soles were peeling off my mud-​stained Fluevog boots. They glued them firmly back on – and, without my asking, polished the boots and buckles till they gleamed. For $ 25. Overnight. Just don’t forget to bring cash or a check – they don’t take cards.

I have taken many pairs of boots over the years to Hollywood Shoe Repair for numerous reasons and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about, not only how amazing my boots look and how excellent of a job Mr. Salyuk does every time, but how utterly charming and friendly my interactions with Mr. Salyuk have been. There have been two times I’ve had to convince Mr. Salyuk to do things that he was wary of doing but he graciously did them anyway and we were very happy with the results both times. I wouldn’t trust my favorite shoes with anyone else. Thank you Aleksander for saving several pairs of my favorite shoes and boots that I swear I could not live with out. Thank you!

I’ve been going here for years and they are my wardrobe heroes. They’ve saved my Coach heels twice, and a half dozen other pairs of shoes that would otherwise have been thrown out. I recently got my cowboy boots back from them and I couldn’t believe it. I dropped off a dirty, beat-​up pair of three-​year-​worn boots and got back a pair that looked literally brand new. For $ 50.
Don’t throw out those sad ol’ favorite shoes. Bring them here!

Brought in an old pair of slippers that needed sewing. Alex, the proprietor, told me that it would cost me a lot to fix and told me to sew it myself and then gave me the thread to do it! And I did do it! Thanks, Alex.

So I took my mother’s shoe to my former shoe repair shop –more modern larger place, but they said there wasn’t a way to put the lift on the shoe. My mom needs a one inch lift. Also it would have been 90 $ and it would take three weeks to get it back. Not to be deterred I found this place. Great Old world charm, 55 $ and I got them in two days. The work was awesome. I will always come here now. He is performing a lost art.

After the old Italian guy on the west side retired I had a really hard time finding a new shoe guy. Sadly shoe repair is becoming a lost art. I had almost given up when I heard about this little shop in Hollywood run by a strange guy with light attitude. It took me quite a while to actually locate the shop. For a while I was convinced its existence was a rumor. Nope, it exists, the repairs are excellent and not crazy expensive and Alex, the proprietor, is always friendly and straightforward.
Over the last several years I’ve taken lots of shoes here. I’ve even taken friends shoes there. «What you are throwing out those Fluevogs (insert preferred shoe here)?!» NOOO, they can be fixed! Yes, they can. Be amazed! Holes in soles, separated footbeds, broken zippers! No problem. Think your favorite shoes are beyond redemption? Take them in here before you give up.

I took in my favorite leather boots — I had literally worn them into the ground. I took them in thinking that they were way beyond repair (there was a hole forming in the sole, and the front section near the toe had tears in it). I was happy to hear that he could resole my boots at a reasonable price. He did an AMAZING JOB. The price he quoted me was the price I paid. He somehow fixed the tears in the front of my boot, and he even shined /​cleaned them. He is truly a craftsman — the quality of the new sole is better than the original. I paid nearly ¹⁄₆^th of what I would have paid if I were to buy a new pair of the same boots. I will be returning!

Wonderful place. He cares about his work. He is a Naot whisperer. He took my 14 yo Naot Mary Janes and made them like new.

Best shoe repair ever! I got my shoes fixed here a while ago and on days like today when it is raining cats and dogs, it reminds me of how thankful I am that I found Hollywood Shoe Repair and Alex. I had taken this amazing pair of vintage Timberland boots to three other cobblers and paid way too much for sub par service. And then I found Alex and he charged me a fair price and he finally fixed them for good! I subsequently brought him all of my shoes and he fixed them all! I am now living in the Bay Area and have yet to find someone as awesome.

Quick! and great service with fair price. This place take only one day to repair my shoes. I would recommend this place to all my friends.

I had read very positive Unilocal reviews and they are all true! I was a little concerned how my boots might look since the soles are very low profile, but he made them look exactly like they did when they were brand new! Highly recommend taking your shoes/​boots here.

Great shop! I dropped several pair of boots and shoes off. They were done the next day, the price quoted was the price I paid.
The Old World atmosphere of the shop; Alex’s mighty gray mane and beard; and the charm of his the Russian-​accented English brings you back to a world long gone, and you’d almost expect Alex to burst into a song from the” Fiddler on the Roof.” (and with what he charges, he certainly ain’t a «rich man.»)

This is my first Unilocal review – like another reviewer of this lovely establishment, I joined for this very purpose. Brought in the other boot of a pair after bringing the first one in for a zipper repair last year. These zippered boots have been everywhere – up mountains, through mud, to Burning Man, and around countless cities. Alex did a gorgeous job the first time (the zipper was ten times better than the one the boots came with), and the second time was just as good. He even shined up the leather so they look better than new! I also think he imparted some sort of cobbler magic into the boots – I feel almost giddy with happiness when I’m wearing them now. I’ll bring them back to him to fix up the heels sometime, but for now am so happy with my newly-​rezippered adventure boots.
This man is the real deal and a craftsman to boot (pun… not intended). Well worth it (and remember, cash or check only! I raced in like a bedraggled city-​dweller to see the sign and race out in search of an ATM. When I returned with cash, I realized how timeless and unhurried the little shop feels – like someone else wrote, quite like a hobbit den! Such a welcome and unexpected sanctuary of shoes).

Popped in Dec 2011 to get the zipper on my favorite travel wallet replaced. Was told it was not fixable. I should sent it back to the manufacture and they might be able to help. At a cost of $ 50 & no guarantees they could do anything I was disappointed.
On a tip from a friend I brought the wallet with me & had it repaired in the Philippines for approximately 10 cents US.
So I would say:

I have a terrible habit of dragging my feet; literally and figuratively.
Heels and toes of my shoes alternate battle wounds depending on the season, (I guess I’m a heel dragger in Autumn).
I spent maybe $ 25 on a sweet pair of boots two years ago and the heels gave up right away, (I guess you get what you pay for).
I finally brought them into Hollywood Shoe Repair for new heels and was told it’d be ready in two days.
So, two days and $ 40 (CASH ONLY) later, my sweet boots have new heels that are 100x better than the original.
It looks like he even cleaned and shined them, too.
I appreciate the no-​nonsense approach: drop off shoes, pick up shoes.
BAM! Simple as that.
The most difficult thing about this endeavor was locating the shop; be advised the door isn’t visible from the street, but there is a sign out front.

Holy hell, if I’d known it was this easy, I wouldn’t have driven around with the broken heels in my trunk for six months. Thanks, Unilocal!I tried two times at two different cobblers nearer to my home to find them closed each time.
This tiny shop is below street level off Sandy, next to a vintage shop.
Walk in. Put shoes on counter. Get a pick-​up ticket. «Same time tomorrow, ok?»
Amazing.
My bill was $ 10 to save a super awesome pair of heels that had been destroyed. I even got a courtesy call warning that they’d be closed an extra day for Labor Day, if I didn’t have time to make it in before then.
I may now just keep my same four pair of shoes until I die, if I can keep getting the blown out soles replaced. Love it.

I suspect Rachel J (previous bad reviewer) is confused about which business she was working with. This guy has been working in Hollywood for at least a decade. And his shop used be a few blocks away, on Sandy near the the old Quiznos. There is now a second shoe repair company very near there, but one block up on the Rite Aid block of Sandy.
My husband and I have both used Hollywood Shoe Repair (Alex) many times over the years and have always been very happy with the quality of his work. My husband has a favorite pair of motorcycle riding boots that he resoles over and over. Recently my husband dropped them off for resoling, and asked me to pick them up. I went to Hollywood Shoe Repair (new location) only to realize my husband didn’t know Alex had moved. My husband had accidentally dropped his boots off at the ‘other’ newer business near Rite Aid.
So I went there with his claim tickets (which btw said the boots would be finished a week earlier than I was picking them up). There were two younger guys working at the other business. At first they could not find the boots. Then I finally spotted them, but they were not finished. They told me the boots need some special stitching job, and that it would be another week. My husband was not happy because he was hoping to wear them on a long motorcycle ride the next day.
I returned a week later, and they still were not finished. They told me they could NOT resole them… I forget the exact explanation they gave me, but basically said I would have to mail them back to the manufacture. When I told them we have it done all the time (on this same pair of boots!!), the acted like that was impossible. When I looked at the boots I was worried they had ruined them, because they had started (or tried) to remove the old soles and it was a mess!!! (note, same as Rachel J, these guys never called us once to advice/​update us on the status of the boots, and they were there for about a month.)
I left and immediately took the boots to Hollywood Shoe Repair, a week later, I picked them up, good as new!!!

As a former New Yorker, I am used to destroying my shoes and then finding a place on nearly any corner that could fix them quickly and for a reasonable price. When I asked friends for a cobbler recommendation in Portland, I got blank stares. So I feel very fortunate to have found Alex and his tiny little shoe repair business.
Some reviewers have complained of the owner’s gruff demeanor, but I found him all business. I dropped off a pair of Frye boots needing new heels and a pair of stilettos needing new heels. He handed me a ticket and said, «same time tomorrow.» When I picked up my shoes the next day, they were in great shape. I’m used to shoe repair places doing a quick and dirty shine, but the shine on my Frye boots was tip top. Both of the repair jobs were solid and have held up for several months.
I give four stars instead of five for two reasons: First, the place is cash only and I am truly terrible when it comes to keeping cash on me. But there’s a sign that lets you know, so you can plan ahead for when you come back to pick up your shoes. Second, while the work was solid, I did have mild sticker shock. The price of one new heel on my Frye boots was $ 20, which seemed a bit steep. But perhaps I don’t know the value of a cobbler these days.
