Hawthorne East Apartments

Violence against elderly and disabled men and women multiple times, bringing in violent and drug-using people with no supervision or case management. Multiple thefts by people brought in by residents and allowed to come back even though banned from the building, not holding residents responsible for their visitors. Last week 4 people were assaulted yet the person still lives here. Drug dealing and smoking of drugs and cigarettes in apartments. Theft of rent checks and lack of any interest of management company or owners of building to solve problems.

I’ve been on the waiting list for Hawthorne East, and am now close to the top of the list. Fortunately, I was warned by a Housing case manager to «carefully look into the situation at Hawthorne East before moving in there.» After reading Doyle T’s review, and the several Unilocal reviews of the management company, Affinity Property Management, I called the pulled my name OFF the list. I would never, never, never live in such a place, nor rent anything from Affinity Property Management. I live in a nice place now. It’s a so-​called low-​income property, but is not at affordable for low income people like myself. My rent keeps skyrocketing. It goes up every year. All the other low income buildings’ wait lists are closed. I’m still on one, though, and may move there in about 2 years. Meanwhile, as my rent goes up, I will cut back, cut back, cut back. I’ll stop buying organic foods and other things I like, to keep up my health. Or whatever I need to do to avoid moving someplace like this.

If you are a nicotine addict and unwilling to follow the lease rules about not smoking in your apartment, in the building or near the building; this is the place! Nearly 1 out of 3 residents are drug addicted and alcoholic folks who will not follow the lease rules. The place is one giant damned ashtray and being able to breathe on some floors is a nightmare. Don’t move here and believe the «no smoking» signs. It is a lie. The onsite manager smokes and could care less if smoking tenants don’t respect the health of others. It is a hellhole like most section 8 housing.
