What an awesome selection of great alcohol! Many local beers are featured at this new hotspot. The food is quite delicious as it is made immediately after you order from start to finish. Nachos with the chips freshly made… Yum! I love when bars have artwork for sale and this place has a great selection of artwork that is very reasonably priced. I will definitely be back here soon!

Closed. Did they set a record for shortest restaurant lifespan in PDX? Back in March I sent an email via FB to Hatch. Here is the response: «UGH! No. That’s not what you ordered. I forwarded this message to my Kitchen manager and to the head server. GREAT training opportunity. Being SO new, we are working hard to get everyone trained. We believe we have some great people. And once the kinks all get worked out, mishaps will greatly reduce. I appreciate you contacting me on here and letting me know about your order. I’d love for you to come back and try the „Actual Chiliquiles“. The easiest way(for me) would be if you give me your mailing address, I can send you a card for a free Chiliquiles on your next visit.» I responded with a «Thank You» and told them I’d give it a second chance. I sent them my mailing address and never heard back from them. Ok, first of all, «being so new»… um, how long has Killer Burger been in business? That restaurant experience doesn’t translate to any other restaurants? Second… you said you’d do something and you didn’t. Hatch is Killer Burger. So… Killer Burger doesn’t do Customer Service, just lip service?(ok that made me laugh… customer service… lip service… HAHAHAAA)

This restaurant is closed now and Killer Burger(owned by the same people who ran Hatch) is in its place. Hatch wasn’t anything special and honestly glad to have another good burger joint downtown. No huge loss.

The best part of my first experience at Hatch were the amazing bartenders! Two awesome men who were able to hustle while staying super friendly and providing awesome service. On a recent sunny weekday, at approximately 4:45 pm, a large group of people began to arrive for Happy Hour. We settled in the Bar area and delved into the Happy Hour Menu. Many people opted for the special Hatch Margarita, the rest of us stayed with our favorite beverages. I played it safe and ordered the HH Hamburger since these are the same people who are responsible for Killer Burger. It was excellent, as were the fries that were included. Also ordered at my table, were the HH Mac and Cheese(HUGE portion, good, not great) and the HH Nachos(generous portion, thick chips, yummy green chili cream sauce.) From the feedback I’ve heard, the pours are generous, the prices reasonable and the location is good for Downtown eating and drinking.

Down the hatch! That’s where the super bomb salad I scored for lunch went. Straight down my hatch and into my gullet. And damn if it wasn’t super tasty. This is Killer Burger’s new spot, and so far I’m impressed. The menu is pretty damn inexpensive for a downtown restaurant. Any mentions otherwise are surprising to me(and if you know me, you know I rarely ever refer to other reviews). Nothing on the lunch menu tops $ 10. The tacos are $ 2.50($ 1 cheaper than most sit-down joints, even those on the east side), most of the plates and skillets are in the $ 8.95 range, and the fine lunch I concocted came out to $ 11.45 pre-tip. Considering the size of the salad I scarfed, that’s not a ton. Oh yeah, the salad. The salad menu here looks pretty weak on paper. One is a basic spring greens salad for $ 5.95, and the other is a southwest salad, labeled as spring greens with corn, black beans, tortilla strips and southwest creamy dressing. You can add on protein for $ 2.50, and it’s a generous size of meat. I opted for the jerk pork, which is smoked for quite a few hours, then baked even longer. Just today(May 13th, 2013) they started using a new greens mix that’s sturdier than spring greens. It’s mostly kale and sturdy greens, which was a really pleasant win for me. I love me some kale. You can see a photo of this salad attached to the business. They said they made the switch so the greens would stand up to the addition of hot meat. The plentiful pile of falling-apart jerk pork was spicy and tasty. It mixed in perfectly with the kale and creamy southwest dressing. It was a filling, large salad, and sure satisfied my hunger. As a note, the menu doesn’t offer a meat add-on for the salad, but they will totally do it, just ask. I will definitely be back in to try tacos and more of the lunch plates. There’s a bar attached and some of this stuff looks like it makes for great bar food(green chile mac n cheese, queso fundido, house-made salsa and chips, quesadillas, burgers, etc). But for those looking for a cleaner, more paleo option, score some meat-salad. You’ll be stoked!

I wanted to like Hatch, really I did. But it was pretty underwhelming. The menu is fairly brief, so you’ve got a short list of choices. Their«carnitas» was really just roast pork, with none of the spice, tang or crispy edges that proper carnitas should have. The accompanying«green chili rice» was white rice with the barest trace of any chili influence. The one upside is that their burger and fries were pretty good. I mean, it’s not Slow Bar, but it was all right.

This restaurant is new and may still be trying to shake out its menu and figure out what sort of restaurant it wants to be. The reviews mentioning breakfast seem to be outdated as the place had no breakfast menu when I visited. The french fries tasted as if the potatoes suffered from freezer burn before being overcooked, and the sauces were unappetizing and too heavily applied. There was also the distraction of one of the waiters whistling and singing along loudly to the music. With so many other options nearby, I’d give this place a miss until they work out the kinks.

Me and my wife ended up in here because we were starving and the only other places we could find had lines around the block. This should have told us something bt we assumed that because they had only just opened maybe people didn’t know about them yet. Nope, this place is just terrible. Both of our dishes were unappetising. I don’t know how you can mess up pulled pork on a bun but they managed it and then surrounded it with badly cooked fries.

Just tried this place for the first time today. I see that the reviews haven’t been favorable to this new business. We received a warm greeting and were asked to choose where we’d like to sit, so we picked a window table. Drink orders were taken and our server came by to explain how things are served. It’s family style; and the food comes out of the kitchen as it’s finished. I’m not sure how many people are into that concept, but we didn’t have to wait for anything to be served separately. Our server also explained that they’ve had some issues with the kitchen since they opened and they’ve been working hard to iron them out. I’m always lenient when I try a new business, because I know that stuff happens. But, I didn’t have to give them a handicap today. Service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. I never had to ask for a water refill. A coworker and I ordered two of the skillets; the chicken and the carnitas. The pork was so tender and flavorful! The chicken gets an honorable mention, but oh my… the pork was so good. There was also mention that some(maybe all) of the beer on tap is $ 3 a pint for the next two weeks to get the bar busy. Nice! And their mixed drinks are reasonably priced as well. I think we’ll be planning a work outing to give their bar a shot after work sometime soon. All the compliments aside, I have to agree with the others that are a bit thrown off by the name they chose for the restaurant since they really don’t seem to use Hatch Chilies in any of their dishes. But it does clue an educated foodie in on the style of dishes served based on that name. Unfortunately, it’s not authentic New Mexican cuisine what-so-ever. So, I guess… there’s that? I’ll be back for that succulent carnitas meat though.

This was my first ever visit to Portland and Hatch was pretty close to our hotel, so we decided to give them a shot; I’m glad we did. We both ordered pretty standard breakfast fare — eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast and some juice. Because it’s new, I think there are still a few kinks to work out(it seemed a little confused in the kitchen at times, our order took a little longer than a simple order should, and it seemed that everyone was trying to do every job, rather than just one). The food was great though, good portion sizes, not at all greasy or heavy, and flavourful enough that no extra salt or pepper was necessary. I ordered a grapefruit juice and they brought out a glass of the freshly squeezed stuff — my husband, who hates grapefruit juice of any kind, kept stealing sips of it because even he liked it. The lovely bartender brought me second glass of it on the house because she’d made one up by accident and didn’t want to see it wasted. I think once the staff get a routine down, and work out who does what and when, this place will really shine. They’ve got the basics down though: good food and good service. I highly recommend eating here.

BEWARE: NOHATCHGREENCHILEHERE — NONE! There was only ONE item on the menu that contained green chile — «green chile rice». It was white rice with some green slime squirted on top — it was weird and sweet almost like pesto. IDK? The owner was nice enough to come over and explain how he was born in Missouri and lived in Colorado, but never New Mexico. He had a «friend» introduce him to New Mexican chile — but found a substitute Colorado chile that(in his mind) was indistinguishable. He also picked from the food at our table to «taste the quality». Ugh — gross. HOWDAREYOUCALLYOURSELFHATCH! GREENCHILEFRAUD! GREENCHILEFRAUD! The rest of the menu is not even in the realm of New Mexican cuisine. It’s mediocre soul food at best. You also have to walk past the kitchen to get to the bathroom and I was almost knocked over by a hot headed bus boy who ripped through the doors without even looking. OH and they pride themselves on NOT having a happy hour on Saturday at 5pm. $ 7 watered-down margarita — no thanks. Never again. Tried brunch with a friend on Sunday. They’re still working out the kinks, but I think this place has potential. The timing was a bit off, and the first dish out, Southern Benedict was cold/luke warm when it reached the table. The flavors were good, but it obviously sat for a while before coming out. My dish, Chile Verde, followed shortly after and was piping hot. I would have given 4 stars if not for the timing/heat issue. Servers were friendly, and obviously trying. Well liquors are a step up from most«wells», so that’s a plus. Will definitely give it another go, but in a few weeks or so when they’ve gotten their bearings.

Went here with some girlfriends while visiting for a girls weekend. The waitress was hilarious and really helped with deciding what to select from the menu. The sh! t is fresh; absolutely delicious dinner. I would recommend this for a great night out and definitely try the home made salsa and chips.

The kitchen went down in flames today. I almost feel bad writing this review but feel my experience is worth sharing. First, the food. The chili verde is not made with Hatch chiles. Maybe their typical recipe is, but the version going out during brunch service today tasted like jalapenos. I realize Hatch chiles are not in season until the summer but if you name yourself after this ingredient, maybe you resort to using roasted but frozen ones until July/August? It took 45 minutes to receive our order of Chili Verde Eggs(rice, beans, braised pork with chiles, and over medium eggs) and a Breakfast Burrito. The table next to us got up and left as their food was being served. They didn’t even bother to take it to go. They were clearly pissed — who knows how long they had been waiting. Another table left with plates of food untouched. What ticked me off the most was a 4-top that came in 20 minutes into our wait received their food before us — after only 10 minutes. Our server observed us noticing the discrepancy and explained that the kitchen had to make a fresh batch of chili verde for my order — even though 3 orders of Chiliquiles had just dropped for this other table. 15 more minutes passed until we got our food. Also, they brought out my order first, then a couple minutes later the burrito, then finally the fried potatoes separately. I felt bad for the servers — there was no manager circulating and they were in constant damage control mode. What surprised me the most is that the host kept seating tables. Do your guests a service by notifying them BEFORE they sit that you are out of at least 2 menu items and the kitchen is running really slow. Don’t sit a 6-top and 4-top back to back when your kitchen can’t even serve the people who have been waiting for 40 minutes. Overall I’m disappointed because I was really excited for dishes made with Hatch green chiles. Today’s experience also made me miss Morning Star Café, which formerly housed this space.

Great new place in Downtown that is also open for breakfast! I stopped in with a group of girlfriends after we had met for happy hour elsewhere. Just wanted to check this place out and drink some wine. Doug, the bartender, was very friendly and not at all put out that we wanted to try several wines before deciding on a bottle. After we finished, he volunteered to give us all a healthy taste of another wine he was particularly fond of. We looked at the food menu and it is very reasonably priced. We had already eaten so I look forward to trying their food on my next visit. This has only been open for about a week and it is still a work in progress. They are going to build out a private event space and put up some art work. At the moment, it is a bit lacking in ambiance but what it is lacking there it makes up with very friendly service!

As a working professional in the downtown area, I have access to lots of dining options. Hatch, it’s alright. I visited for lunch on a Saturday. The décor is inviting, feels formal, but not stuffy. I had one of each taco styles(5 tacos) and a side of the polenta. It was all very good. The best meat on that Saturday was the carnitas. It would go back and gets platter of that. The chicken was my least favorite. The rest were also good, but the carnitas were the best. The polenta was also very flavorful. Everything came out quickly and was hot and fresh. No complaints here about that. They also have a full bar with beer on tap. I’m looking forward to trying a breakfast burrito this coming week. Give it’s shot.

Initially, I was very excited to try this place, good name, good location and I’m a chili fan. Then I went there, the first thing I noticed was the noise, the place is incredibly noisy it’s like an echo chamber with, incredibly loud droning fans. Then the server did not know what items were on the menu, after we accomplished deciphering the menu my friends food showed up cold and lacking one of the main specified ingredients, a breakfast burrito, missing the eggs. My food just did not show up, after my friend finished, we decided to cancel my order. Then we were informed that they were cooking it, what was this vastly complicated dish?, pancakes. A fully staffed breakfast place with only 4 patrons present and pancakes take over 30 minutes, yikes…

Re-rating my review… yes I think it is about that time. Location, location, location… After driving around the block multiple times trying to locate the place… I finally spot it on the corner of two one way streets. We park in a garage a block away for their opening night 3⁄11. The food was tasty and over priced for the portion size we received… but it is downtown and that would mean the rent is $$$$$. Side note: I did find it odd that the tables have built in hot plates but our food was served on a lukewarm skillets. If you’re friends with them on Facebook you will notice that their menu seems to be changing constantly and there are random/last second promotions advertised — this makes it appear as if they are scrambling to get the seats filled.
