Ernest is an extremely skilled stylist. I have worked with a number of stylists over the years and can never keep body in my baby fine hair. Between his excellent cut and the amazing Onesta products he recommended, I am so pleased with the results.
He takes the time to teach me how to use the products and work with his cut to produce volume which lasts all day. He uses an organic color without ammonia and with all of his organic products, including Eminence for my skin, I feel I am adding a few years to my life without all those toxins.

It’s interesting how this business owner name-​calls his clients who provide poor reviews. This fact alone speaks volumes for his level of professionalism.
Don’t expect the customer to ever be right if you go here. Expect an argument. It’s YOUR hair and YOUR opinion. Why does this business think that they have a right to argue with you?

Ernest was great at educating me in available alternative products that I didn’t even know were available. I liked my hair cut also it didn’t look like a weed wacker took off too much which is what it typically looks like when I go somewhere else! Thanks Ernest for the great cuts and products that keep me looking great!

Amazing Brazilian Blowout! Ernest did a fantastic job straightening my hair. I have wavy-​curly hair and used to take so long straightening it with a flat iron every morning. Now it’s so smooth and well conditioned. My natural color even looks brighter and healthier. Ernest is so fun to talk with too, very personable, and the salon is very clean and inviting!

I was happy to find an organic salon since I became very ill from years of chemical exposure last year. I’ve had cut, color, and highlights done and been to see Ernest several times. Ernest does a great job covering up the grays creeping in as well as matching the color sometimes I do myself at home. He also has a positive attitude.

I recently had a highlight, cut and deep conditioning by Johnie at this salon. It was new to me, but I was intrigued by the «organic salon» advertising. I had an excellent experience! My color turned out PERFECT! I am supremely picky so this was a treat. My hair is soft, bouncy, with tons of body and looks and feels healthy. I have never been so pleased with a first visit. I you’re looking for a salon this is a good bet. Small, (I think just two hairdressers) but clean, smells great and ORGANIC! Can’t beat that. Johnie was friendly and professional.

Had a perfect experience with Johnnie. Products are all natural and smell wonderful. Hair color doesn’t sting skin and eyes and no nasty smell. Johnnie has good taste, caters to the individual, and has the gift of making everyone feel comfortable. Shop is small

Ernest and his staff are amazing! He is warm, friendly and really knows his craft! Not only is he exemplary with hair, I always seem to learn something about it when I’m there. You will not get «I think this might look cute on you.» You will get a detailed reason why. You will not find a better salon in this area.

I’ve been a client for almost 3 years now. I am pretty consistent with my lifestyle, so I’ve been having Ernest do my hair as I prefer loyalty.
Past weekend, as he was washing my hair in the sink, he punched me in the head claiming his hand slipped. I understand it was an accident, but I thought I was struck with a piece of wood. Ernest is about 6 foot tall, it was not a light punch on the head, trust me. I Have NO Idea what you can do in the sink when you wash someone’s hair to hit So hard in the head. Thank goodness it was not my temple, but a little below that. He said the sink plumbing didn’t work property. Was he trying to fix the plumbing while washing my hair? I have no idea! I had to take Advil for the raging headache I had after that.
That would probably be OK. I know accidents happen. I would only have to pray that he does not cut me with his scissors by accident next time. He was not super apologetic as he said it was an accident and pretended it never happened. I was not offered any discount, not an ice pack. Nothing.
What really threw me off is that a lady showed up right in the middle of his cutting my hair. As he was babbling with her, he turned my chair towards her so that he could see her better. I understand that lady brought Ernest some more clients, so she was definitely someone he wanted to keep, but why did I have to pay for that? Should I mention that the hair cut turned to be very half assed? When you focus on something else, you can’t really do hair well. Yes, you can cut a few layers here and there. That’s the same hair cut that I can get at Great Clips the ones that are done within minutes and very little attention.
Thanks for the profound experience. I probably needed that law straw to stop driving from Gresham to the other side of Portland. The only reason I booked the earliest appointments and drove all the way is because I didn’t have to deal with interruptions from other people. I want my hair done and I want it done well in addition to at least some customer service.

I see… so in me paying over $ 600 for a partical color, cut & a few products I «wanted something for free». And when a client isn’t happy with the color outcome usually (just with good customer service) the hairstylist would have tried to correct it without arguing (whether charging the extra $ 90 or not). As Sejal P. said in Dec.2010 just poor customer service and extremely overpriced for a hair mishap.

I just redeemed my Groupon for a KeraGreen Smoothing treatment at HairapyPDX and had an epic experience! Ernest is a warm, witty, intelligent person who immediately makes you feel comfortable, but more importantly he is phenomenally skilled at his craft. I have never met a more knowledgeable, dedicated stylist who acts with integrity and passion.
I had 2 Brazilian Blowouts and bad color jobs prior to meeting Ernest, and the state of my hair was not good – lots of damage and breakage. Not to mention the fact that these treatments were unhealthy and toxic, which is not in alignment with my philosophies and values at all. Instead of scolding or judging me, Ernest provided compassionate education on what steps I could take to improve and renew the health of my hair. I appreciated the fact he simply provided solid information without sounding pushy or sales-​oriented.
The services and products aren’t cheap, but it’s so true that you get what you pay for. Quality costs more! If the health of your hair (and overall body) is a priority for you, then Ernest is definitely your guy. By the way, my hair looked AMAZING after the KeraGreen treatment, and I look forward to seeing how it gets better and better under Ernest’s care.

I bought a Living Social deal to Hairapy PDX for a Brazilian Keratin Treatment. I made an appointment before the expiry date (Nov) to go in, but because they were booked I couldn’t get an appointment until January. It was nice of them to let me come in January, though this has become pretty common with Groupon/​LS vendors.
Fast forward to a few weeks before the appointment. I have a swim class starting in January. The treatment requires 3 days of not washing your hair. I called to see if we could change the appointment out by two days so I could still use/​have the treatment, but he called back saying it was a fixed appointment and wasn’t going to be flexible about it. (Mind you, this was over a voicemail too.) I ended up calling Living Social and getting a refund but the way it was handled rubbed me the wrong way – especially when he suggested I buy one of the Groupons he was going to come out with in January.
I’ll give him credit for letting me use it past the expiry date (but if it’s one person and over 100 deals, this would make sense to me) but major negative points for the poor customer service and communication.4
Update ¹²⁄₂₆: I’ll give Ernest points for commenting on the review, I love to see vendors online actively engaging with their audience but did want to point out a discrepancy: there was no mention of moving my appointment to February. I would have jumped at doing that but the only mention about future dates was an upcoming deal on Groupon I should consider purchasing. Looks like there were some communication mishaps here. Unfortunate, but It happens.

I took my fiancé here to get her hair done before the wedding. Ernest is an absolute delight and really knows his stuff. He specializes in organic, ammonia free products that won’t damage/​destroy hair. Overall a wonderful experience that is highly recommended to anyone looking for a great hair treatment.
