Greyhound Bus Lines

This station is quite a bit intimidating, with a lot of people hanging out outside that don’t seem to be there because of travel. Anyway, I got there to pick up a ticket because for some reason Greyhound still won’t take electronic tickets from your phone in 2015 so I am supposed to go pick it up at least AN HOUR before departure. I get there a few hours before my trip to have that sorted out and there is no one behind the desk but I still wait and see this lady that was talking to the security officer walk towards me, gets behind the desk, turns on her screen and looks at me, I told her hat I was going to pick up my ticket and she is like: oh you can’t, the tickets person is gone, will be back in 2 hours. I say ok thank you and get no reaponse. When I return there is a new lady behind the desk who is printing tikets using the same screen the other lady had used before. I still don’t know if the other lady was juat lazy or didn’t understand what I wanted or what happened but everyone in that station should definitely work in their people skills.

A broken air conditioner that either spewed sub 66 degree air or plus 74 heat made what should have been a lovely summer trip miserable. No more Greyhound for me. Wanderu is the better value.

It’s the bus. It’s not great, we all know that. If you want better, pay a little more and fly. Compared to some Greyhound stations this Portland one is pretty clean, and for what it’s worth, this is downtown and the airport isn’t.

This bus station for greyhound is actually pretty big. I’m here waiting in the lobby in front of my gate. It’s all indoor which is nice cuz it’s not cold in here. But it gives you have hipster feel with the brick walls.

Last resort to get back to Seattle – Amtrak is pricey and bolt bus sells out quick. Sketch bus station but it could be worse. The bus didn’t leave on time but the driver seemed nice enough; only a 10-​minute delay. It wasn’t a comfortable ride at all.

Greyhound Bus Lines has come a long way since I rode them.
Way cleaner now. Plenty of Vending Machines. A Café (Not always open. No Hour’s Posted.) An Arcade to pass the time away.
Security on site. (The less fortunate still hang outside but you can’t do much about that.)
All n all. Not a bad way to travel.

Oh the Greyhound. The bus industry desperately needs great competition! Greyhound is stuck and stagnant. It starts with the online tickets and a $ 2.50 charge for printing them out at the station. Oh, but if you print it at home? Two fifty for using the online system. We should be able to show the email on our phone for the ticket. Then the checkin process, one checked bag only. I was going from Portland to Sacramento, a 13 hour ride, and had all my belongings with me. Then getting into the bus, have you seen the commercial where the bus has enough space for the rock band to jam out? Hah! I had less space on there than a BUDGET airline. My backpack that almost always fits in the overhead couldn’t, as with many other people’s. So we were left carrying it on our laps or under our feet, literally to rest our feet on it, which it barely squeezed in. And legroom is a generous word for Greyhound, leg cramps is more accurate. As you can guess I really disliked my bus ride. I did like three things: the power plugs, wifi, and a good smooth driver.

It’s not a place to hang out and it’s run down. The staff are assholes and the drivers need to either retire or get over themselves. I know that driving a bus from point A to B with certain people isn’t the best thing in the world, however, the company needs to hire some fresh new blood who actually like their job. It’s really dirty that I had issues sitting, finally I settled for standing on my already tired feet.

Portland’s Greyhound station actually feels like a regular bus depot more or less. It’s not a place I’d want to linger, but it was relatively clean when I visited. The higher marks here really go to my bus driver, who was relaxed, polite, and extremely efficient. Maybe it’s something about the Pacific Northwest. Because when it comes to Greyhound, none of those three adjectives constitute the norm.

This is an okay bus staion, I only been on Greyhound like 2 times in my life and this station so so, their are homeless people outside asking for whatever… The food place is okay, the burger is good… The soda machines are way to expensive.

If I could give negative stars I would. I had never been on a Greyhound before, I regularly use Public Trans and have used buses in 3^rd World countries that were cleaner and more safe then the one I got on in Portland. Wires sticking out of the vents, making them permanently on, the ancient black gum stuck on my neighbors seat and the false advertising of having electrical outlets on the bus.
Oh and lets talk about the wannabe security guy wanding me and going through my bags. No partner or female co-​worker, a sexual harassment lawsuit in the making.
If all that wasn’t enough, I hurried through my meal and didn’t finish charging my computer and phone to get to the bus on time, to be put on the bus which sat for 1 hour and 45 minutes waiting for another bus to come in from Spokane. Here is a concept everyone else is using Greyhound, its call GPS. Every other public transit system in the country has a departures and arrivals schedule and use GPS, why do we have to rely on your surly rude employees to ignore us when we ask how long we have to wait.
Can you say power washer, customer service training and get a frickin GPS departures and arrivals board?
I won’t blame Greyhound for the lousy parenting I had to endure, but while I’m on a roll I’ll say this. You had the baby and the rest of the world should not have to endure your neglectful parenting while you Facebook, talk on the phone and play games while you child keeps screaming Mommie and hanging off the seat in front of him.
Forgot to mention the dripping leaks in the ceiling at the Portland station with the 5 gallon buckets under them everywhere. Nice urban distressed touch.
Amtrak is looking well worth extra few bucks.

My stepdaughter just had to get herself a boyfriend who goes to school at O of U. Couldn’t have been a nice PSU boy. Noooooo! When her BF is not able to get back to Portland for the weekend, she heads down to Eugene to visit him. It’s a long, lonely drive down there and back and I’m an old worry-​wart. That’s why I like Greyhound. The price of a ticket from Portland to Eugene and back is pretty reasonable and I don’t have to be concerned about the kid having a breakdown out in middle of bumf**k nowhere.
Pick up at the bus station downtown is fairly easy and painless. Yes, she often has a tale to tell about some weirdo on the bus but she has pepper spray and knows how to use it.

I have only taken a greyhound round-​trip once. My car wasn’t working and I was visiting my family. I was taking a really late bus, almost midnight, and I’m really glad that two of my friends walked me to the bus station and hung out with me before I left. There are so many sketchy people I wouldn’t have wanted to be there alone.
The station itself is dirty. The lady I had to get my ticket from was SUPER rude to me. It’s also incredibly hard to hear anything that is said over the pa system. I will go out of my way to never have to take a greyhound bus again.

Best Greyhound station I’ve been too. Clean, relatively bright.

The Good: Inside this station is kept very clean, it’s spacious place and always someone near the door to ask a question. The light rail stops at the bus terminal and Amtrak Union Station is on the next block.
The reality: Near every major bus station has homeless hanging in front of it; asking you for change, a light for cigarettes or a cigarette. There are a few homeless shelters in the area but the homeless don’t seem to hang out inside the bus terminal, which is good.
Greyhound really should look at and invest in better lighting inside this bus terminal, (that I believe would removed that heavy, down, depressed feeling many have about it). Overall and okay station.

It’s a Greyhound station. There’s nothing that special about it, but I’m going to disagree with most of the other reviewers and give it a nice, solid three stars. Because compared to other Greyhound stations, this one really isn’t that bad. It’s a lot cleaner than some, and while it may be in a sketchy part of town, Portland’s «sketchy» is still relatively safe.
There’s a mediocre fast food restaurant that serves all kinds of greasy fried things. None of it is outstanding, but it’s cheap and nice to have available in a pinch. Plus, they sell bottled water for a much lower price than the vending machines.
There are always taxis waiting out front and it’s really easy to catch a TriMet bus or tram nearby. The Amtrak Union Station is right across the street.
So it’s quite an average Greyhound station. Yes, the train is better, but it doesn’t go everywhere you’ll need to go. Sometimes the bus is necessary.

I don’t know why every greyhound station I’ve ever been to is strategically located in the worst part of whatever city it’s in. This greyhound station is totally insane. On one trip, I had a stun gun and pepper spray with me (I was 18 at the time, fuck being on that sketchy bus without some options) and was surprised to see REALLY stringent screening for passengers. People were wanded, and their carry ons were searched very thoroughly. I started getting worried about how I was going to get on with a stungun, when abruptly «security time» was over and the guards just, left. The checkpoint to the bus boarding area was totally abandoned, and a wave of people who had been loitering uncomfortably outside the area for various reasons flooded through with no checking done whatsoever.
Why check everyone insanely closely for five minutes and then let anyone from the street in for four hours after? Are the security staff only paid for five minutes? Totally insane security and the place is dirtyyyy, really bizarre people hanging out all around the building who WILL speak to you/​accost you/​will claim they know you and you’re their brother coming to pick them up while they’re being searched by the police outside.
I avoid even walking by this area let alone going inside. If the train is an option, do it. This is one of the few places in Portland in which I’m very on my guard when walking through at night.

When this is you’re only option… why, why, why do you make it so hard? Why do you have to be rude and unaccommodating?
I realize that you have to deal with old, poor, and some stinky people… but for what we get as a customer you should be nicer. Most of your tickets are non-​refundable, and if we try and buy a ticket on-​line for someone else you charge us an extra 18.00.
Also…what is that smell??? Do you attempt to clean the bus? Should we buy a disposable cover for our seat?
It’s the same cost or less to take the train to most of your destination’s…and if you’re reading this review… take the train.

Complete with indoor flies, a repeating CNN special, dysfunctional lockers, terrible food, overzealous security guards, the odorous homeless and more. This facility is understaffed, under maintained and the worst entrance/​exit to the Portland area a traveler can make the mistake of using.
I’m with the Kelly M., fork over the extra dollars and take the train. If not just for Union Station than for an altogether improved traveling experience. For those without said extra dollars, spend as little time as possible in this dump. But be forewarned, I missed a preceding bus by 10 minutes and spent an irredeemably underwhelming 3 hours sweating amid the questionable occupancy.
