Today i swung by Great Pearl Salon for a pedicure. I have been eyeballing this place for a couple months but haven’t stopped in. So I went for it. Let’s just say that the owners were not friendly. But that is the least of my concerns whenever I am at a new establishment. As long as the product is outstanding… I am a happy customer. So once I got there, I picked out my color, sat in the chair. Got the pedicure rolling. Truth be told, I had already shaped my nails and cut my cuticles the night before. So my main reason for going was for the MASSAGE. Oh yeah… My favorite thing in the world. Now because this place was new for me, I did watch the clock… Here is where is all went to hell. The massage was 5 minutes long. Nope. No misprint. Only 5 minutes. No… Not 5 minutes per leg… 5 minutes total! Here is the issue with that even more so… My 4 year old could have put more ummmppff into the massage than she did. No pressure at all. I was SO disappointed. From beginning to end, from the time that I sat down to when she sealed my nails with its last coat, the entire«spa» pedicure lasted for 25 minutes. That was it! The price… $ 25 and i tipped her $ 4. Will I ever go back to this place? Not a chance. And not because of the lack of bedside manner. Because the pedicure sucked, was too short, and should have only cost 15 bucks.

It was my first time here. I specifically tell them NOT to use clippers. I’ve had my hair cut for years and I know the result I want, and I know what happens when electric clippers are used. Everything was going fine, when halfway through, he pulls out a pair of clippers. I do a slight double-take in the chair(or what I can only describe as a double-take, given my limited mobility), and reminded him about not using clippers. But he reassures me that it will be fine(from this, I can also definitively say that he understood that I didn’t want clippers, so this was no miscommunication), and I was like, alright, but you only get this one chance. Well, it wasn’t fine. I had to go to another place a week after to get a trim. Why don’t people just listen? I hypothesize that his insistence on using clippers is a sign that the scissor skills would be somewhat lacking had he done the full cut with only scissors. This place lost it’s one chance. I’m never coming back here again.(Too bad too, since it’s so convenient for me.)

$ 35 mani pedi in the sea of overpriced $ 50 – 60 mediocre mani pedis? Why YES! Take a trip down the still quiet 9th Ave — the owner is an older vietnamese woman, speaks great English, and does some mean nails. Beautiful, professional. This is why I pay money! When I can’t get the amazing $ 20 mani pedis of NYC, you will find me here. Well worth the jaunt outside my neighborhood.

John Is my go to barber in Portland. He is always so polite and gentle and gives the best shampoos! As long as him and his wife are running this salon, I’ll be getting my hair cut there!

Great place to go to for a last minute haircut, pedicure and manicure. Service is always good considering it’s a husband and wife team, decent services, always able to get in, prices are very affordable for the pearl. Helps that it’s across the street from our place. Would recommend them!

I enjoyed both of my visits to the Great Pearl Salon over the last couple days. Yesterday I had a pedicure and today I had a facial. There was essentially no wait time in the mid-afternoon early evening time frame. The location is off the beaten path a little in the Pearl area but the prices are very competitive. I recommend them and plan on visiting again during my time Portland.

This is the best place to get your brows waxed in private(be prepared for touchup plucking) at a great price. Also wonderful pedicures with hot towel wraps for 25.00. Can usually walk in for a quick appointment as well. Would recommend them highly.

Haircut that won’t break bank Not many places offer a haircut for $ 14 and waxing services starting at $ 12, especially in the Pearl District. But the new Great Pearl Salon does both. A friend of mine was desperate to get a quick haircut with not any time to make an appointment, so we popped in on the fly. The stylish took her right away and she was pleased with her haircut. It wasn’t anything flashy, but they did a good enough job, especially for the money and with no appointment. Tip: You can get an eyebrow wax here for $ 12.
