An oil change that ended costing two new tires. Very unusual occurrence according to Nick — a screw somehow penetrated the sidewall of one of my tires. Nick and Gerry gave me very good service. The oil change was a very good price and the tires were priced pretty reasonably [I haven’t crosschecked the price yet but let me say it Felt reasonable]. Overall pretty darn good. rgs

If there was a word stronger than «sucks» that wouldn’t get me kicked off Unilocal,I would use it to describe my experiences here. All three of them.
I bought a set of winter tires on
and had them shipped here since Firestone is a «recommended installer» in Portland and it’s one of the bigger mistakes I’ve made in some time. I spent $ 100 getting the tires mounted and balanced and have now been back two more times to attempt to get the tires re-​balanced so the steering wheel doesn’t shake back and forth as I cruise down the road.
Each time has been a soul-​crushing time-​killer filled with attitude from the counter staff about how the tires couldn’t possibly be out of balance and I must not know what I’m talking about (me: 20+ years of driving, 9 cars, lots of tires — I know what an out-​of-​balance tire feels like) or it must be the truck (truck: it’s less than six months old and the summer tires certainly didn’t bounce down the road). Every time it’s taken well over an hour to re-​balance four tires even when the shop is otherwise empty.
Long boring story short, I have better things to do than waste my life at the tire shop and I will never, ever, ever be back. EVER.
And I will now go spend ANOTHER $ 50 to go across the street to Goodyear and get the problem actually fixed.

If I could give zero stars I would. Awful service. Terribly slow. They took our car back to fix one headlight and came back saying EVERY light was out, break lights, tail lights, everything. I have proof that just before I took the car in they were working and still charged us and refused to help. I tried kindly explaining that to one of the staff members named Nick P. and he just gave me attitude and snapped at me saying i was wrong. He didnt even try and work with me. Don’t waste your time or money here. Rude staff that does a terrible job. I feel I have been robbed.

I feel compelled to write a review because I received excellent service that was timely and well done with no pushing me into buying things I didn’t want/​need to. I’m glad I ignored the one-​star reviews.
All I needed was a tire repair so I was happy that this didn’t take much time. They did not have the right tire for me at first, so they ordered it, I came back a few hours later and it was put on immediately. I was there for 40 minutes total.
The manager was straight-​forward and made things simple for me.
I will be coming back to this Firestone location for my next car service.

Brutal. They quoted a minor brake issue fix on our $ 600 ghetto van for $ 2500. I literally burst out laughing. We went to a smaller local brake shop… got it fixed for $ 300. Easy peasy.
So… That’s 10% of the $ quoted by Firestone. It is insulting to my intelligence. Never, ever trust the franchises. They are deceitful and will take advantage of you. Its all about the up-​sell. Sad.

I always go to Firestone for my oil changes as they offer great specials. As a young, unknowledgeable woman I trust that they do a good job however the last time I went to schedule my old change they said they could not honor the special price as my car required a special oil. This was confusing for me as they had in the past. The manager told me to bring in my papers so he could see what was going on. It turns out they had been using the wrong oil for my vehicle — not cool. This was obviously very frustrating and they knew and admitted to making a mistake. The gentleman working with me (I forget his name) was very apologetic and gave my next oil change for free. I felt that was good customer service and very much appreciated. I will continue to use them in the future.

My experience wasn’t necessarily bad, as far as I can tell At the moment.
But I will say this:
I made the mistake of reading the reviews after having an oil change here. I was telling my sweetheart that I had been shocked that so much of my lazy Sunday was taken up for this procedure, which takes the Valvoline guys like 10 minutes MAX to perform. I had looked up directions to the shop via Unilocal,even, and had seen that it had low reviews, but thought «hey– it’s a tire place– maybe they have crappy tires or something,» and stupidly let it roll, since my car takes full synth, and they had a $ 50 deal– my oil changes usually cost around $ 70, so I didn’t mind putting up with Whatever, to save the 20 bucks, plus my normal place was closed.
I’m glad I didn’t choose the 3:30pm appointment option online, since they closed at 3 (?).
The guy said it would take about 45 min, since all the bays were full.
I am cool, because I read comics, and there’s an awesome comic store a couple blocks away. I accidentally whiled away an hour in there, and hustled to get back to the shop. Car isn’t ready. 1:15, 1:20, 1:30 pass, and I’m told repeatedly «they’re almost done.» At 1:45 I’m like «what are they Doing?!» The guys says they’re just topping off the oil. He also says that I have a nail in a rear tire, and did I want them to fix it for $ 30. Umm, Nooooooo… I’ve had plenty of nails taken out and plugged, and it costs like $ 7 the world around. But having read the other reviews, after the fact, I’m feeling So Sketchy about them, because what is sketchier than a tire shop with a driveway paved with nails? It’s disturbed me enough to write this review.
Incidentally, I use Affordable Tire and Brake, who have great deals and awesome service– truly above and beyond. I’m excited to go and see them tomorrow! They would have probably given me a good deal on an oil change, too! But I feel like I wouldn’t need to go at all, if I hadn’t gone to Firestone today! :/​So Totally Weird.
Also, I left my comic book in the waiting room, but I can’t tell them about it because they don’t have an answering machine.
I don’t think I’ve left too many negative reviews before. Hopefully my second star won’t push them completely into the 2 zone. I feel so strange about writing that the second star is because nothing bad happened to my car on the way home– yikes! Guess I’ll ask the folks at Affordable if they see any glaring omissions.

My wife Had problems with her Mini Cooper fuel pump. She is not very car savy and I’m pretty sure they know it. They quoted her almost $ 1400.00 for the replacement and installation. $ 1400.00!!! When asked to breakdown the cost, She was told She was being charged $ 650.00 for the part, $ 100.00 for the diagnostic and around $ 650.00 for labor, With no estimated completion time.
I Contacted my daddy auto repair in Vancouver and was quoted $ 542.00 for part and labor with a completion timeline of just under two hours…
This is really quite scary… You have a company that is going to tac on around $ 800.00 for what? Look up a Mini Cooper fuel pump on Google and see if the prices come anywhere near $ 650.00… And close to that amount for approximately 2 hours of labor ($ 325.00 an hour!!!).
Boarder line theft from customers and the customer service is always terrible.
Have been to this location several times in the past. Should have known this location or maybe even the company was a scam when they charged $ 900.00 to replace a serpentine belt.
Pay careful attention to reviews when looking for a shop! Obviously based on the numerous one star reviews you should be careful with this one.

The worst service ever! I won’t be back.
They gave me an appointment at 730, and when I got there they weren’t even open until 8. The proceeded to tell me that people that made an appointment prior to me, but with a later time spot would be taken first! So if their time slot was 3 pm you wouldn’t take my car until after that even though my appointment was for 730?
I will never be back. Poor customer service.

Contrary to other reviewers, I think this place works very hard to get repeat customers — they just have a different way of doing it. In lieu of doing quality work with good customer service, these folks do such a poor a job, customers are bound to return under the misguided belief they are backed by the Firestone warranty.
Unfortunately, folks such as myself have helped keep this place running for selfish and near-​sighted reasons. Mine? I am drawn to a shop so close to home I don’t have to sit in a waiting room. My selfish comfort has further greased the wheels of this predatory company, which is probably the only «machine» they are associated with that will still be running in 2 years.
Friendly tips for the returning customer:
1) Power steering pumps are not covered under «steering» parts.
2) Newly installed struts and strut mounts are expected to go bad 2.25 years later under normal conditions, and it is unfortunate the warranty only covers 2 years.
3) Repeated service will run you 3x what you payed originally.
Why I continued to use this shop after the first problem is beyond me. I can only hope I have better sense in my other relationships…

So I’ve now driven my car just about 60 miles since a new fuel pump & filter were put in. And this is what I’ve noticed.
There is now something wrong with my fuses that were never wrong before they touched it. Highly frustrating at night when half your dash doesn’t light up. And it does so sporadically.
There is a life threatening squeal coming from my engine area. I don’t know what it is. I don’t know if they inatalled something incorrectly, forgot to replace some oils they were so happy to charge me $ 500 for the first time i went in or if my belts are about to all simultaneously snap at once. What i do know is nothing about it «pinged» on their computer diagnostic they rely almost soley on.
I just feel sick everytime i get into my car and tho I’m not the praying type, i have some longer commutes coming up this month. Wish me luck. If i die due to car failure, I’ll leave a letter in the glove compartment tying liability back to Firestone.

I wish I could give negative stars for these guys… They changed my oil, aligned my tires, all seemed well. Flash forward like a month, car is completely out of oil. Like, not a drop. Open my hood, there’s actual garbage in my engine. A package of a bulb that my car doesn’t even use! Anyway, tow it back to them to have them fix whatever they did wrong (i could clearly see oil leaking all over my oil filter) because they say «If we goofed we’ll fix it!» Good! Right?
They tell me it’s going to be $ 60 and 3 hours to see where it’s leaking but «its DEFINITELY not the oil filter! You musta blown a gasket!!» they tell me… I say yeah thanks but no thanks and have the car towed to my regular mechanic. Guess what? It was a faulty oil filter!!! WOW! Go figure, right? This happens after they quote me for rear brakes at $ 860. What, you say? $ 860 for REAR BRAKES??? I mean, I get that I’m a woman but I’m not fucking stupid. Got my brakes did at my normal mechanic for less than $ 200.
These guys are predators, shitty mechanics, and they should be shut down.
Everything they have told me is a lie, their service is beyond unacceptable.
¹⁰⁄₁₀ will NOT go back.
Seriously people, if you like your car, do NOT go there. Please, I beg you.

Stay away from this place we went in a paid for new tires and alignment and the minute we drove off the lot our car had new noise around the wheels that was not previously there. We immediately went back and the guy who worked on our vehicle admitted he made a «rookie mistake» and did not apply the weights to our tires properly and fix it. He offered us a free oil change for the inconvenience.
A week later the same noises and issue came back because the weights were not fixed and we also notice the CV Boot we saw him yanking on was torn. We complained to Firestone Corporate who only offered a small refund which never came close to covering the cost of getting the problems they caused fixed.
Unless you want to be out hundreds of dollars do not take your car here and look at the other reviews too to see this is a pattern.

Don’t know what I was thinking coming back here. I got a flat in one of the tires I purchased in my original review and they are close by. The tire wasn’t totally flat, just had a slow leak, since I had temporarily repaired it with Fix-​a-​Flat. The guy looked at the tire and I told him I had repaired it with Fix-​a-​Flat.
«Oh, you put Fix-​a-​Flat in there? It can’t be repaired now.»
«Oh, no?»
He proceeded to try to sell me two new tires, since they had discontinued the destination A/T’s in my size. I said I’d just look around and took it to my usual shop, Lovely Tire and Wheel out on 82^nd. They repaired it gratis. I told the owner what the Firestone tech had said about Fix-​a-​Flat.
«Never heard of that before,» he said, rolling his eyes slightly.
I did some research and this notion that Fix-​a-​Flat ruins tires is absolute nonsense. It’s water soluble – it can just be rinsed right out of the tire.

After reading all the reviews I wonder if they don’t have a supply of nails in back. When I left the house my low pressure light went on so I left the car at Firestone because they are just a few blocks away. A couple of hours later I get a call back saying I have nails in 3 of my tires but the tires are too warn to be safe so they refused to fix them and I would also need the wheels alighned. They offered me a «deal» on a new set of tires and lifetime alighments. Took the car to the Les Swchab down the street. They fixed the tires for free-​I had not bought them there– told me the alignment looked fine and I will need new tires in about 3000 to 5000 more miles. You can be sure I won’t be going to Firestone to get those tires.

This location has cause me more car problems then any other car repair shop that I have ever gone to. I went to Firestone to get my rear brakes installed which they did not do correctly. I have had to go back several times because my rear brakes continue to make grinding noises. They can’t even change my oil correctly!!!
Do not take your car to this place. For anything. They will try to upsell you mercilessly. There are many other reputable and honest repair places in Portland.

I had a flat tire on my car. I backed it into my driveway (about 20 feet) and removed the tire myself. I took the tire to this place and asked if they could fix it. I left it with them. They called me back about an hour and half later to say they would not fix it since it had been run flat and there was damage to the inside of the tire. When I picked the tire up, they also gave me an estimate to replace the tire and align my car (they never saw my car, I drove my truck there) for $ 270. I took the tire and wheel (they had dismounted it) to Les Schwab. They repaired it within 10 minutes and refused to let me pay them anything.
Do not take your car to this place. For anything. They will try to upsell you mercilessly. There are many other reputable and honest repair places in Portland.
Note. The employee I dealt with was friendly and very busy. I’m convinced whatever led to his decision was not personal on his part, but a shop policy. I had a very strong impression he understood that I knew much better and didn’t counter my decision. In my mind, that makes this place’s service even more disturbing if an employee can’t make his own decisions.

This place must not want business. I stopped in last Saturday to price some tires. The gal behind the desk seemed annoyed that i was bothering her with such a request. She looked at the computer and said, «I will have to call the warehouse for prices, I can call you on Monday». I have NEVER heard of a place that sells tires not being able to give me a price. It was an ordinary tire, not specialty. Today is Friday. No call still. I pass this place everyday on the way home from work and thought it would be a good place to do business.
I hope the owners read this so they know what is going on there. I will spend my $ 700 Dow the street at Les Schwab where they treat me like a valuable customer, not an annoyance.

Certainly the most unfriendly, customer-​hostile experience I’ve had at any Firestone location anywhere in the country (including New York/​New Jersey). The customer-​desk guy I dealt with here was unbelievably jerky, full of bald-​faced lies («my master technician with 30 years’ experience has never heard of a TPMS light before! only the dealership could possibly even look at your car!») and seemed to want nothing more than for me to go away with my Firestone-​caused problem unresolved. My experience at this location is enough to put me off using Firestone any more in the future, since they clearly refuse to stand behind the chain’s service guarantees.
(Update: I took the problem to the SE Powell Firestone location and they were courteous, helpful, fast, and competent. Everything that this location wasn’t. Go there instead!)
