I like the unique offerings. A cute Hispter Boba tea place. Is that for real? I think this place makes it for real. I had the lavender milk tea and enjoyed it. Cute little hangout place. Ill come back to get a fat straw.

Absolutely lovee they’re breakfast sandwiches — the baguette is so fresh. Avocado, Tillamook, and egg with just a little mayo sooo good. And the boba teas are good if u like boba! Wish they opened earlier sometimes 1000 is a little late for breakfast…

These are my favorite bubble tea drinks on the planet!!! Fat Straw uses coconut milk instead of the usual mixtures that you find at other places. There are tons of flavor options and different boba choices. The bahn mi sandwiches are also Amazing! The location on Hawthorne is just as good!

Should have read the earlier review that the matcha green tea had too much powder in it. Mine did too which made it pretty gritty, yet oddly bland. The Special bahn mi was fresh but had more onions than meat.

Good service, neat atmosphere, but the boba milk tea I got was kinda bland and the pearls had softened a bit. Friend and I split a Banh Mi and it was well-flavored, but unlike any we’d had before. I think they tend to go lighter on the sauce and meat and heavier on the vegetables. Verdict: fine if you’re in the area and have a craving, or are trying to save money(it’s on the cheaper side) but not if you’re trying to explain to a friend what boba is, and how awesome it is.

Their matcha green milk tea taste similar to Starbuck’s green tea latte. I like how Fat Straw makes sure the matcha gets dissolved completely, because Starbuck’s version tends to have some matcha undissolved. I like how that their iced milk teas are made with non-dairy coconut milk. They have a stamp card system to get a free drink after a certain number of purchases. There is wi-fi, but will have to ask the cashier for the password. This is a good place to hangout or do some laptop work. They also have a restroom for customers too.

Huge fan of bubble tea and this place has the crowd and flavors but definitely needing more staff here. Wait for the teas but definitely worth the wait. And choice of boba/tapioca or popping bubbles for your teas makes it extra nice but boo for the .50¢ fee for cards.

The milk tea is perfect on a hot day in Portland. I tried the taro milk tea with boba, which was both refreshing and tasty. There’s a great selection of flavors, from lavender to mango, and you can add their boba for .50 $ or they also have jellies. There is a $ 0.25 card fee for transactions under $ 5, so bring cash if you just want one drink, or bring a friend and try two! There are lots of tables and chairs, so no lack of places to sit and chill with friends or work. I spotted a few outlets for those in need of charging their devices. Apparently there is free wifi as well, so stay a while! There is a bathroom, but you need to ask the employees for the key!

I’m a great fan of Fat Straw. Their avocado smoothie and honey lavender milk tea are both refreshing. Their boba seems to be more on the chewy side, and i ended up not eating all of them. However, Fat Straw adds a perfect amount of flavor to their milk tea, making it enjoyable while you stroll on 23rd.

Great boba find in Portland! Their milk teas are all lactose free, made with coconut milk? Samples available for certain flavors! Tried the rose milk tea — strong rose flavor and really good! Sipped their house milk tea and jasmine green tea, both were on point! Get the stamp card if you’re a local!

I really enjoyed this place. The girls that worked there were really sweet and the bubble teas were awesome! My friend got the blueberry milk tea with boba and I had the lychee green tea with lychee jellies they both were great. They had many flavors of teas and different jellies to chose. It’s in a great part of Portland that is fun to go to. The prices were great where some places over charge, I think there’s are fare. I haven’t tried any of the food yet but I will write an update when I do. So far I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a yummy bubble tea.

I asked if they use fresh fruit, the worker told me they only use fruit juice/concentrate which turned me off to begin with but I went ahead and got a blueberry pineapple smoothie with boba. I’m not the type of person to waste food/drinks but I literally took 3 sips of it and threw it away. Gross. It tasted way too fake. Tasted like a super suckier version of an otter pop. My friend liked his avocado smoothie though.

Too much matcha powder in the matcha milk tea. Way too pungent. Decided not to complain and just order a different drink. I ordered the avocado smoothie and it just tasted like ice. Only good thing was boba. I wasted 10 dollars on bad bubble tea. Also– bathroom is disgusting.

I had been looking for a great Bubble Tea place for quite some time now but kept on getting disappointed. I was pretty stoked when I came across Fat Straw on Unilocal!Fat Straw is located in Portland’s Alphabet district with lots of other fun places around. The bubble teas here were super tasty and approved by my kids. Bonus points for them being vegan by using coconut milk which tastes BOMB and being super cheap compared to Portland’s overpriced foot truck bubble teas! I highly recommend the lavender honey bubble tee! To die for.

Bubble tea is an art. There is a complex mixture of ingredients in how things are blended, as this is not a smoothie unless this is in the backcountry. What makes this Fat Straw great is how it has a long menu, good food and plenty of seating, including couches, and wi-fi. It was wonderful to go here. I plugged in and worked on my homework. My strawberry bubble tea was ready a few minutes after I ordered. I’ve had better, but this was still very authentic. The texture was right and the bobba felt just the way I wanted it. The strawberry flavor also felt just the way I wanted it. Too often, bubble tea is too composed of ice, so upon my request, they omitted the ice, and I think you’ll want to do that too. The Alphabet District could not be put in a better light than here.

I ordered a Thai milk tea with tapioca. It was disgusting and undrinkable. It was watery with this gross, chemical aftertaste that bore no resemblance whatsoever to Thai tea. I had to throw it out because it was so gross. Like… what happened? Surely it was a fluke because how could they stay in business with the tea tasting this bad? I won’t be returning to find out. I’d rather not risk wasting another 4 dollars when there is way better bubble tea only a few steps away(Tea Chai Te).

Decent bubble tea, in a place filled with tweans(get it? Because tea + tweens = tweans… I’m hilarious!) We popped in for a tea after our hike, looking for refreshment. The service was fine, nothing too remarkable, and the place looks a bit like an internet café without the laptops — a little older and a bit scruffy around the edges, but they had some cute touches with beta fish all over the place, which was cool! The bubble tea was fine, again nothing over the top, but tasty enough. Not somewhere I’d rave about, but if I was craving bubble tea in this area of Portland I’d pop in again. One thing, it is OVERRUN with baby adults! There were a few groups of teens just chillin’ while we were in there, I guess it’s the thing to do if you’re a kid in Portland!

Located on a busy NW23rd. This place has got the good good drinks. Ordered the raspberry tea and strawberry smoothie. Both came quick and tasted great. The little café looks clean and the workers are friendly. Great place to get something to drink if you are shopping. Overall: will return when in the area.

I went here on my lunch break and they were really fast! I was there around 1:15pm and it wasn’t busy so I got my drink and left. I got the honey lavender milk tea and it was really good! You can taste the tea and the other flavors individually as well. The boba was also really really good and the perfect chewiness! Maybe next time I won’t get something with honey because it was really sweet at first but then the ice diluted it so it was fine.

I’m crazy addicted to this place! The décor reminds me of the corner bookstore/café with a quirky combination of furniture, wall art and accents. I love how it’s in the basement of the building, but it doesn’t feel creepy. It reminds me of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt in the best possible ways. The menu is kind of crazy, too. There’s so much to choose from that it’s hard to narrow down to what your heart of hearts truly desires. I went in for one thing and one thing only: bubble tea!(But I ended up walked out with a super delish BBQ Pork Banh Mi, too.) I had 6 bubble teas over the course of 4 days, but I ordered the same flavor(Jasmine Green Milk Tea) over and over again because it was that damn good! Tapioca is an extra charge, and you can also customize the sweetness level of your drink. I noticed that, unlike a lot of bubble tea places, the pearls aren’t stuck together in big clumps at the bottom, nor are they too large to be sucked up the fat straw. Each drink is bubble perfection incarnate. I’m sure that Fat Straw can meet the needs of even the most demanding drink snob. Go. Now!
