Great little warehouse style coffee shop that clearly means business when you walk in and see all the 50lb bags. espresso is tasty and strong, great cappuccino!

Absolutely courteous service, quiet setting, wished there was artwork up(they always have wonderful artwork), and I adore the java. One of my favourite spots in Portland to get java. Perfect place to bring a buddy and chat. Costs are decent and great snacky food also.

lattes are smooth but coffee is a bit light in boldness. if you’re here, they are popular for their pour overs… so get that! cool neighborhood in a corner parking lot with multiple bakery/brunch spots. they have organic homemade syrup and hemp milk :)

Hands down, the BEST coffee in town… their own roast is THE smoothest! And the staff is amazing… it feels like Cheers when I walk in, they already have my specialty drink going and always enjoyable, intelligent conversation with the Baristas. And the owners… fabulous, readily available to chat, and definitely on top of the world coffee scene. Such cool local art exhibited monthly… stimulating and current! If you are complaining about the wait, then you probably don’t know what it takes to make an artistic work of coffee and should go to the SB’s drive-thru.

I don’t even drink coffee but when the owners brought in a couple themoses for Out 42nd Coffee Hour, the aroma alone woke everyone up! Smells great — tastes even better!

I finally had a chance to try out this location(I’ve only been to the Prescott location). Both my friend’s and my coffee was delicious. The baristas were chill and so were the other customers. It was a good thing I picked up my beans at the Prescott location recently because they had a very limited selection here.

Great shop for a latte. It’s close to my house, the baristas are friendly and there’s are almost always awesome dogs around. A friend of mine tried their thyme iced tea back in October and it was really tasty. My husband comes here for their drip coffee weekly and loves it. We are fans, for sure!

Adorably-Portland coffee house! It’s a little place with bags of coffee beans in the back alongside the grinder. There’s a good amount of space for meeting with friends or for studying! We got lucky and grabbed a big table by the window so we could enjoy the sun & my wonderful coffee. I had to add some simple syrup to get the flavor sweet enough for me. But otherwise it was a really good experience! Will be back :)

This location does not do slow-brew. You’ll have to head over to the Prescott location for that. I had an 8oz Americano of the single-origin Nicaragua. If I could do it over again, I would opt for a 6oz. But the espresso was smooth and balanced. However, I expected more dominant notes. It almost seemed like a blend to me. I had the same Nicaragua on drip and that actually seemed more complex to me. You give it a try and let me know if this review was helpful.

Extracto is easily the most stimulating coffee joint I’ve spent time in while unemployed. Over the course of several hours on a rainy Wednesday morning/afternoon there was rarely an empty table. The coffee crowd here is decidedly new wave Portland transplants rocking designer eye-glasses, writing in leather bound journals, sporting a diverse array of stylish beanies and staring earnestly into MacBook’s(just like me) for hours on end. Are any of them, like me, members of the unemployed Portland community? Not sure since I’m still learning how to confidently talk about being unemployed but I can tell you it’s easy to imagine that you are amongst unemployed comrades at Extracto which is somewhat comforting. Let’s talk about the barista’s at Extracto. The first thing that stands out is that strangely… there are a lot of them working on a weekday morning/afternoon. I counted 8 total employees which to me represents a hopeful middle finger to the deep anxiety I have been feeling from reading article after article about automation killing middle class jobs and all those soulless robots taking over the workplace. Extracto is decidedly anti-automation/robots and very pro-people, so f*&^ all that fear mongering noise. All in all, Extracto creates a comfortable atmosphere that is easy to fade into while getting busy half-assedly updating your resume for the hundredth time, logging into your LinkedIn account but not updating your profile with the end date of your last job, going down the rabbit hole of job boards and writing your post mortem on how things went so horribly wrong in your last job. Also, the coffee is fantastic!

Overpriced and unfriendly staff. But reasonably good coffee and a large, simplistic space with wifi. Not in my top 10 coffee shops in Portland because of the price(my latte was $ 6.25) and service, but I drop in from time to time.

Delicious coffee that is roasted in house. As you walk in, the note of beans being roasted hits the nose. On the way to the bathroom, you can see the 1950’s roaster from Germany at work and the roasters are happy to explain the process. A medium coffee with a refill is 2.25 $. Lots of tables for studying and good wi-fi. Too bad it is so far away from NWPDX. Close by is People’s yoga! Good parking and nice unpretentious place

There was so much seating!!! The staff was super friendly. Their mocha is delicious as well. Chocolaty enough, but not too sweet. Would definitely recommend.

Amazing! Simply AWSOME… The gentleman were all bearded, and very professional my coffee came out looking like a portrait. I had a zucchini banana bread that was amazing! Highly recommend.

One of the best chai’s, Queen of Sheba, I have ever tasted. And they support another local place with carrying Queen of Sheba chai! The gentlemen working were so kind, friendly and artistic. One of the best cafés in P-Town!

Great coffee both to stay and to take away — buy the beans! Great neighborhood spot to get some work done too. Without question, the best iced coffee in Portland. The make a mean macchiato too.

On a lovely Tuesday morning at 8:00am, I popped by Extracto for my first cuppa in Portland. The barista was friendly and patient as I scanned the menu and the pastry case for a goodie to go with. I ordered a cappuccino + croissant, and my friend opted for a mocha + cheddar jalapeño bagel. Warmed up, the bagel was delightfully warm and melty. The cappuccino was standard for me. The mocha was not too sweet, which was perfect. During my hour or so here, multiple patrons came by and sat with their pups out front. The huge glass windows let in a lot of light. All in all, solid spot in the neighborhood for coffee.

Coffee + internet.. .what else do you need if you’re living the good life??? Oh yeah.. money and happiness would be nice.. .but until then.. .coffee + internet will suffice. Coffee is high quality, for me that mean its not bitter when you drink it and you actually taste the coffee flavor. The menu is simple and not to many foo-foo drinks for over $ 5+.. .I think the most expensive drink here is $ 4.

Extracto is a local chain coffee shop serving a minimalistic menu(espresso, coffee, chai) and a handful of pastries(looked just ok). Solid espresso($ 2.75 for a double) but was not a big fan of the mocha($ 4), which wasn’t sweet or chocolatey enough for me. Milk alternatives available: almond milk(Pacific) and soy.

I really like this coffee shop but I’ve had a few bad experiences with the staff. Just an our ago I went in and ordered a cup of coffee and a pastry and the guy helping me literally refused to say anything to me. No hello or anything, he just stared at me until I figured that he was ready to take my order. It was super awkward and it felt pretty disrespectful.

Don’t listen to the couple of negative reviews. Several kids were here and everything was fine. Coffee was amazing. Don’t expect pancakes and omelet. You’ll find a little pastry and really good coffee. Really dope atmosphere.

With so many coffee shops in Portland that check all the essential boxes(industrial décor/craft, small-batch, artisanal espresso/free 75-G Wi-Fi/handlebar mustache’d baristas/steamedpunk’d almond milk) what could Extracto possibly do to go above & beyond? Make giant, frosted animal cracker cookies, of course. All the joy of childhood, plus caffeine and no one to tell you when you’ve had«enough» cookies. You’ll walk in feeling like Eyore on NyQuil and leave Dumbo-style flying with sugar pouring out your ears.

I’m a coffee addict and like to try local places when I can. I don’t recommend this one. The coffee was«off» in some way, but I cold not put my finger on it. It had an unusual flavor that did not sit well with me, my wife or our friends. Then people were nice, though, so I added a star back.

One of the best coffeehouses in PDX. Staff is extremely helpful. Baristas in general aren’t the most cheery people in the world, but the team at Extracto makes you feel welcome no matter your level of knowledge of coffee. They roast their beans in-house and definitely have a mastery in the roasting arts. Plenty of seating, power outlets. Some outdoor seating with umbrellas. No complaints whatsoever.

Extracto is our current favorite place for freshly roasted whole beans. There are a lot of great coffee roasters in Portland but we’re enjoying Extracto very much at the moment and I’m switching my work schedule around so spouse and I can get over here once a week when we run out of coffee. The cappucino is also divine. Last week we bought coffee beans and they had just been roasted so the staff let us know to wait 24 hours before brewing a cup! Wow. It doesn’t get better than this.

I’ve experienced better, so, meh… When I fork over my hard earned cash for a coffee I do expect a modicum of manners from staff, not a disinterested ‘I’m such a hip thing rocking on in an ironic way listening to Kim Wilde’s ‘Kids in America’ or a too cool for school handlebar moustachioed barista who mumbles out orders as he pumps them out(I thought he was saying Al Roker instead of soy mocha). I was on the fence about going back there but after biting into a leathery croissant my mind was made up. there are far better and less attitudinally challenged places to throw money at in this burg

It may be the epitome of hipster, but this place has excellent coffee. Ben and I were lured in with a B1G1 Chinook Book coupon. So glad I was able to try it out! The sweetness level of my mocha was similar to a delicious semi-bitter dark chocolate, which was exactly what I was looking for. The coffee and chocolate complemented each other perfectly. The caramel latte was excellent as well and the foam art was well-appreciated. It’s not in my neighborhood, but I’d eagerly come back next time I’m in the area. Sitting at a sunny window table and sipping gourmet coffee is a great activity for a lazy Sunday and my Extracto experience contributed to a great day. It was definitely one of those ‘I’m lucky I get to live in Portland where we have excellent coffee options’ moments.

I recently visited Extracto with the BF to grab a latte and sustenance for our garage sale adventures, and we decided to stop in here because we had a coupon in the Chinook Book(and we always forget to use them). Anyway, ordered a couple of lattes, bagel and pastry, and the amount seemed kind of high, so I asked the girl who took my order if she had used the coupon, and she said«yes». There were people behind me, so I didn’t want to hold up the line by trying to calculate the amount in my head. I paid her and walked over to the BF to tell him that the total seemed a little high and he calculated the total and said she couldn’t have used the coupon(which was buy one drink, get one free). He walked over to the girl who had rung me up and told her that she didn’t use the coupon I gave her, and she basically said«oh yea, I think I forgot», and didn’t even apologize. She did give me the cash for one of the lattes, but I didn’t really appreciate her attitude, and the fact that she told me that she had used the coupon when I had asked her earlier. Got my latte and it was good, but not great. I always gauge lattes by whether or not I have to add any sweetener, and even though I got a vanilla latte, I still had to add sweetener. The bagel was really good, but the other pastry we got was just meh. Overall, not a great experience, mainly because of the service. I’d like to give this place another try later on. Hopefully, I’ll be able to update my review to a better experience on my next visit.

To begin let me say that I am a total coffee snob. Well, I’m actually pretty snobby about a good many things, but with so many choices for great coffee these days its easy to be a snob about it. For me a great coffee shop has to begin with primo coffee, check! This coffee can stand a firm ground(pun?) against the coffee titans such as Blue Bottle, Coava, and Stumptown. Second a great coffee shop has to have ambiance, décor and service, check! I’m a pretty low maintenance guy and all I require is a good feel to a place, and that is why I would drink coffee here over most other places even though it’s not in my ‘hood. Thirdly, the décor, it has a very neat classic look to it; Kind of like the way that I imagine my grandmother’s kitchen, but nicer. I really really like this place and I wish it were in my ‘hood but it’s not so I guess I’ll just have to admire it as a tourist. I think I like that better. Coffee, Ambiance, Décor Enjoy!
