Escential Lotions & Oils

Their Egyptian musk is the only perfume I’ll wear, and I’m about to run out! I was happy to discover that Beyond Scents (
) purchased the rights to the recipes, according to Escential’s Facebook page.

I loved this place and used to drive up from Eugene to make my own scents. I live on the east coast now and was hoping to call in and have something shipped to me. I am disappointed to learn that it is now out of business. Does anyone know if they have relocated anywhere or is it completely closed?

I’m sorry to see that they have closed (as of the end of August 2014, according to their Facebook page.) They sold wonderful things and could always suggest a scent. I hope they reopen or that their products are available somewhere else soon. Another bit of Hawthorne gone.

This place is really cool. I was able to create a signature scent based on an alcohol perfume I like. They have a wide variety of oils ad the staff is really accommodating. Morgan was great and helped me really pinpoint the specific notes I was going for. It is kind of overpowering in the store and at a certain point I thought my sense of smell was going out because I could hardly smell the difference between anything. It helped to take samples outside and smell them on their own. I created one perfume, took it home, and then realized that as the notes changed, it smelled like baby powder. I was not too pleased! I took it back and we started over and found the perfect scent!

I agree with the positive reviews here, this place is really cool, I had to stop wearing fragrances containing harsh chemicals, because I developed a serious allergy and my naturopathic doctor told me if I wanted to heal I had to stop using perfumes and lotions and shower gels with chemicals.
I just used plain olive soap and no fragrances for some time, but honestly it was very depressing and felt like a neanderthal. I was told about this shop by a colleague and I am so glad I found it, wow, is like a feast fro your senses, the moment I stepped in.
I my mood had already improved, I love to try and discover always new scents, and be able to choose and create my own ones, containing my own personal signature, how cool can that be?
My favorite ones though are the Jasmine alone, or the Orange with Gardenia, and I also like the Violet by itself, and the combo of Freesia and Jasmine. I let this last one combine in my body lotion and I can’t believe how strong it is, and how long it last, even though it is made of plain natural stuff, I feel so good that I am being gentle to my body using natural things but at the same time, I still smell good, and by the way, no allergic reaction whatsoever from these goodies!!! And I think the customer service here is great, I have never experienced any of the negative aspect mentioned by other clients!

Like the other reviewers state, you can pick a product (lotion, body spray) and then chose one or a mix of scents out of the hundreds they carry.
I go here every Christmas to get a specific scent for my sister that can be hard to find (Mandarin Orchid). I go here regularly for myself because I love trying new scents, and they also carry Oregon Soap Company products which are great on my sensitive skin.
The people who work here have always been really helpful and nice to me, even when I first moved into the area and was intimidated by their fancy interior and I was wearing sweat pants (it’s near Fred Meyer so I took a trip before grocery shopping).

I like this place, and have been back a few times. I love that you can customize a scent of your own. I saw an earlier review about one of the employee there not being so nice and I have to agree. There is a lady to looks like she would rather be anywhere else but there. However there is also lady with lightish brown red hair and she is super nice. I love that she’ll ask you specifically how you would like your product before just straight up adding oils to your oils or lotions.
I have taken friends here and buy it for my family all the time. I so happy that we have this place in Portland. The products are great and the idea of the store is great too.

Visited here in 2010 on a visit to Portland. Fell in love with the selection. I order from here to Brooklyn twice a year in bulk ever since. Portland Rain essential oil cannot be duplicated out east.

Very good selection of bath products made from essential oil and cruelty-​free ingredients and production. Their essential oil selection is good, fairly basic – though a decent selection, they lack some of the higher priced ones that are very good, such as cinnamon bark e.o. (as opposed to the leaf) which, though it is more skin-​sensitizing and is a bit more expensive, smelleth significantly better!

I’m usually a huge fan of this store. I’ve taken friends and family here and used them a lot for gift purchases. Unfortunately the last time I went there, the customer service was absolutely atrocious.
The short, round girl wearing glasses behind the counter would have rather been anywhere else then her job. She was stomping around in bare feet (gross) and was extremely irritated when I had a question.
At one point, some of her friends came in and she walked out from around the counter and started talking to them, leaving my pregnant wife and I standing there waiting for her to ring us up. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
That girl is the worst. Normally it’s an amazing experience to shop there and the rest of the employees have always been wonderful.

I walked in unsure of how I would be treated as a novice particularly on Hawthorne St. where it’s generally Coolville, USA. The lovely lady behind the counter answered all of my questions, talked to me like a real person, and when I left I was feeling excited and reenergized around my «plans» with essential oils. Will definitely go back! Did I mention that the prices were fantastic as well as having a top notch selection?? This will be the first review that I actually wrote, and posted versus just thinking about doing it which is my usual.

I have so many glowing thoughts about Escential Lotions & Oils that it’s probably best to put this review down in list form:
1.) This is the first store I’ve stepped into and thought, «Wow. inspired! I’m going to jack this idea and open a store of my own. How is there not already a bandwagon?»
2.) All the products are high-​quality, natural, biodegradable, gentle on your skin and easy on your wallet.
3.) How awesome is it to be able to mix up your choice of essential oils, (as many or as few as you prefer) create a scent, name it and call it your own? You feel creative and nourished, the proprietor makes a profit, everyone is happy.
4.) Aromatherapy soaks & bubble baths for kids? Fcking SMART.
5.) Escential Oils and Lotions’ products cater to girls and guys of all tastes. Whether you’re bougie, hippie, grungy, classy, gothic, artsy, or smelly (esp. if you’re smelly) you’ll find something you really love. There are perhaps 100 oils that span the entire smell spectrum, and the patient clerks who work the counter will not begrudge you your fun in sampling all of them.
Recently, my sister received a Gardenia & Winter Rain lotion (infused with aloe vera, Vitamin E, avocado and sweet almond oil) for her birthday, and I received an Earl Grey & Pomegranate perfume, pus a Blood Orange bubble bath, for no reason at all, except that I thought perhaps I deserved a present (or two) for putting so much creative thought and physical labor into her gift. =)
I really love my Blood Orange bubble bath. And my cat likes it too, though he gets rather sad when he eats the huge bubbles of fragrant soap and it doesn’t taste like anything.
Bottom Line: Chanel No. 5, you’ve got nothing on this.

This fun little boutique in the hipster Hawthorne district is the place for buying lotions, potions, and oils. I picked out two bottles of massage lotion, unscented, then told the girl at the counter which of the huge selection of scented oils I wanted added to each. I chose cinnamon for one, and white patchouli for the second. They both smell awesum. I love this place. How did I find it? Why, Groupon, of course. What a great deal!

I come here when my skin wants a treat. The masks are great, and the lotion is even better. Bonus for letting me mix in my own oils. Even bigger bonus that they don’t get impatient when it takes you twenty minutes to decide on a scent.
I do wish they would bring back the linen spray… I loved that stuff!

Never been disappointed with the selection, offering or ideas! I absolutely LOVE EL&O!
Trying to go cold turkey of not wearing fragrances was TOTAL EPIC FAIL! So I decided to give it a go with natural perfumes and scents instead. The store clerk was very knowledgeable and helpful in selecting a perfect blend after I told her what I wanted. I walked out with $ 30 worth of goodies and a fragrance I love! My signature scent: light musk and jasmin with a hint of freesia. Perfect for summer!
Doing my body and the environment good at the same time, finding a treasure of olfactory pleasure!

I love this store and try to visit whenever I am in Portland. So, since I live in Los Angeles, I buy from them online.
I have been using their perfume oils since I was a college student at Lewis & Clark back in the 80s. They have an amazing selection of products and everything is top quality.

I LOVE this place. First of all, I agree with the other reviewer… you can go in there without being bowled over by the smell. I can’t go anywhere near those places in the mall that smell like a giant bubblegum bomb went off inside them. Escentials is classy and their products are great. The staff has always been really helpful.
Their last recommendation was a citrus blend called Clarity which I put it in their bodywash. Great stuff!

I’m a big fan of smelling sexual, delicious and appetizing (but not like a donut or a slice of pizza. or even garlic farts ((see my Habibi’s review for info))) and I’ve found perfume oils not only are strong, but last a long time.
Long ago in a hippieland far away, patchouli was the scent of the oncoming thwarting crowds of psychedelic love. Ecsential Lotions & Oils has that, if you want that, but they also have my personal scent: Jasmine oil.
Many a times I’ve dated a guy, only for it to end sour. Months later I get an email or a text, «I smelt you today,» sounds creepy? It’s not. It’s that lovely olfactory presence of me! Every time an ex catches a whiff of the oil they are profoundly brought back.
Try this. Pick a strong signature scent, date a person… I guarantee they’ll remember you. Plus, a ¼ oz is 8 bucks but lasts months– perfume costs upwards of $ 60… so. Cheaper, stronger and lasts longer.
Women try:
–Gardenia (deep, exotic floral scent)
–Hibiscus Passion (sweet floral scent)
–Cinnamon (men love cinnamon rolls, so it’s a give in. Spicy!)
or –Lemon Verbana (splash for a fresh lemon scent)
Men try:
–Sandalwood (Woodsy. very manly!)
–Forest Rain (Smells like old spice… but better)
–Any musk (Personally– I consider it a sexual scent)
One more hint: Before getting some action. dab in the netherlands (thigh hollows, under knee pits, under arm pits, etc) and it’ll be great. Freshness is important!
