I must commend the staff at Courtyard Portland Downtown Convention a Center for hiring and supporting such stellar staff. Most notable was Charlee who we found working the omelet station at Charley’s on Grand restaurant. From the first moment Charlee was welcoming and friendly, showing genuine interest for her customers. Charlee asked us about our trip and our plans around town and was quick to offer suggestions for interesting things to do and places to visit around town. She even took the time to write down some restaurant suggestions and deliver them to our table. In her station, she prepared egg dishes with care. The next day when my colleagues and I returned to the hotel restaurant, Charlee greeted us by name and was genuinely interested in our experience. She was personable and gracious throughout. Charlee is true an asset and an exemplary ambassador for what great customer service can be. I will return and recommend this hotel and restaurant simply because she is here taking such great care of her customers. Kudos to you, Charlee! Thank you!

This restaurant was located on the first floor of the hotel I stayed at while I was visiting Portland. It was a decent place and I figured that I might as well check the place out since I was literally in the area haha. I went here on two separate occasions which I will briefly describe. My first visit was for a late night dinner on my first night in Portland. I ordered the salmon burger which came with fries. The meal was pretty filling and paying $ 13 – 14 was not too bad since it did have fish. My friends ordered the carne asada tacos which looked more like an appetizer and a pasta dish which was pretty good and filling. After our meal we decided to get dessert which I would not recommend getting at all. The carrot cake was alright, but was kind of dry and didn’t taste much like carrots. The lava cake was okay, but I’ve had better. My personal order was the seasonal fruit crisp which was really bad. I also got it with ice cream(a la mode) which bumped up the [rice by $ 3 for just one scoop! I wish the waiter told me about the price difference. I ended up paying $ 10 for a small bowl of overly sweet and artificially tasting fruit with a soggy crust. I don’t know where the crisp was in that dish lol. I had maybe 2 – 3 bites and I gave up. My dessert ended up looking like a cereal bowl as the ice cream melted x.x. I also ordered two drinks, the nutty Russian and something else. The drinks were alright, but I think the bartender made it really alcoholic to the point where you can’t even taste the other ingredients :(. My second visit was for breakfast before checking out of the hotel. I ordered the two egg meal which came with potatoes, bacon, and some toast for about $ 9 – 10. It wasn’t too bad, but the food wasn’t that memorable. I did appreciate the kindness and welcoming vibe from the staff though! My friend went with the buffet option which cost about $ 15 – 16. That’s worth getting if you really love breakfast food or are super hungry. Overall, I don’t really think this place is worth visiting unless you are staying at the hotel and are too lazy to walk to another dining establishment. It is nice that they have a Unilocal discount, so I guess that could be a good incentive to get you to visit.

Run of the mill hotel restaurant. Server Marcus was incredible. I had the salmon salad which was delicious. My husband had the short rib grilled cheese which was good.

Because I was in a time crunch during one weekend in Portland, I opted for the conveniently located restaurant in my hotel. On my first night, I enjoyed having bar food for dinner consisting of the crispy and housemade Truffled Potato Chips alongside buffalo style Chicken Wings. I left satisfied though a mild heartburn crept in during bedtime. So the next night I decided to clean up my diet and have the Columbia River Grilled Salmon which I found tasty but was extremely disappointed by the vegetables: bell peppers and summer squash. The menu highlighted seasonal vegetables. Here’s the problem: it was December. I found the service for dinner pleasant nonetheless. The assistant manager apologized and offered me free dessert which I declined.

This is my new go-to spot for Happy Hour before catching a game at the Rose Quarter. They’ve got a great Happy Hour Menu with cheap food and drink specials(till 6pm) and it’s the best deal within walking distance to the arena. Only downside is no happy hour on Fridays or Saturdays.

Now it’s hard to judge hotel food against local gems like Milo’s City Café close by, but the convenience factor is nice. I was there for brunch buffet. The prices on their menu basically leave you with no choice, you could just get an entrée but most entrees are in the buffet and the buffet isn’t that much of a price difference. I don’t really like eggs unless something is done to them. Friendly on site personal omelette maker with all the favorite mix ins. *check* Fruit is my favorite food, I always like a fruit bowl with breakfast. Sometimes I will bring an orange to eat after/before if I know the restaurant fruit selection sucks. They have huge bowls of quality fresh fruit, yeah!!! Tons of really good looking pastries, bagels and toast. Biscuits, rolls and chocolate muffins. Some cereal – interesting… It’s around $ 11 – 13 for buffet but I guess. Hot stuff: hash browns, bacon, sausage. The service is a hotel restaurant service, nothing remarkable, but wasn’t horrible. Milo’s quality of food and experience is way better, but if you don’t have time to get over there, find parking and maybe wait a little to be seated on the weekend – then try this place. Ps-they did a remodel. Still looks like a hotel, nothing special but looks nice. Pps-Portland has some amazing local breakfast places, if possible try those out first. Downtown: lorn and Dottie’s, my personal downtown favorite. Lots of people love Mother’s bistro. Mother’s is especially good if you have a leisurely morning, no rush and don’t mind a little/a lot(perspective) noise with your breakfast. Sometimes in the morning, I prefer less popular/busy. North east: my favorite Milo’s city café. Cadillac café is alright, a little pricey for what they offer but super popular. South east: too many to list.
