Carol’s Custom Canvas & Upholstery

I went to Carol’s, because in the past we’ve gone there before to get canvas cover for our boat. Maybe, it was a take-​over, or new owner, I wasn’t there, but my husband have told me, he’s gone there before.
The idea was to hire someone to make me 2 ‘pizza style bags’ to put my displays inside, to protect them from falling, from rain, and easy to transport to all my events. I gave him a photo link of one example. I brought my containers, so he can get the correct measurements, and he gave me two quotes (once by phone, and once in person) both came out the same amount. I bought the material, enough to make 2 bags. I also told him I wanted the scraps back. I told him, I wanted like an envelope style closures, with velcro (just like the sample photo). It’s really self-​explanatory. I told him, that way, I can just SLIDE my display in, or out then close the bag. It’s THAT SIMPLE. He also told me, he’ll call me, when they’re ready, and I marked my calendar, to remind myself. I signed a Purchase Order, but I didn’t get a copy.
The day has come, and I waited all day for the phone call, finally, by 2:45PM, I no longer can’t wait, I have an event on a Saturday, and I NEEDED my new bags! He didn’t answer the phone, I left a message. A few minutes later, I made a 2^nd call. He said, he doesn’t answer Private numbers. Fine, I go for that, but WHY DIDN’T HE CALL ME BACK, when I left him my number, or even call me back, when it WAS READY, I could have come earlier, but now he was about to leave 3PM, and because I work @ home, I’m not ‘presentable’ to just hop in my car & go! Who does that? So, to make it easier for him, I sent my husband to do that, even though he was washing the car, to DROP WHAT HE’S DOING, «HE’S WAITING FOR YOU!»
He came back, with a NEW STYLE, of bag, and NO SCRAPS AND, without calling me first, Gordon also ADDED $ 10 MORE because’ there’s more work’? Yes, I understand, he had to hire Russian girls, who have problem understanding what I wanted, to do his work, but I HIRED HIM to do MY WORK, so I didn’t have to! I made it simpler for him, providing him photo, measurements, fabric. What else does he NEED? That’s more than most people bring when they go to places like that. (He even drew it on my PO, exactly how I wanted it). A 7 years old can understand!
My display now is like they’re being wrapped in diapers, instead of sliding them in/​out, like a PIZZA. Velcro on 3 sides, instead of ONE, ‘like an envelope’ that you just close the FLAP, done!
Once, again, today, my husband went back to pick up the scraps, and Gordon is trying to explain to him again, ‘they were RUSSIANS AND HAVE PROBLEM UNDERSTANDING’ or communicating what needs to be done! There’s drawing on the wall, for them, but they have NO CLUE what I wanted! With that, we’re being charged $ 10 MORE!?!
Then, why didn’t you hire someone who CAN SPEAK ENGLISH very well, or do the job yourself? But, I’m not satisfied with the new bags!

We had some stainless work done. The work itself was lovely, the welds were beautiful. It took twice as long as we were originally told it would and it wasn’t done correctly the first time, so they had to keep it longer to redo it. It was pretty obvious that they had put the project aside for a month and only remembered once we called and asked for it. Then, when they started to work on it, they didn’t really remember what we had asked them to do. Instead of calling us and asking, they just did what they thought should be done. Also, twice we were told that it would be ready on a Friday and that we should call first before coming to pick it up. When we called, they didn’t answer and didn’t call back. I would give them a 5 for the quality of work, but only a 1 or 2 for scheduling and customer service.

Gordon at Carol’s Custom Canvas did an excellent job on canvas enclosure for the upper helm of my boat. He also re-​upholstered the sofa in the saloon.
I highly recommend him for any canvas or upholstery work you may have.
His pricing was fair and he delivered the results in a timely manner.

Gordon and his staff did an excellent job on both our canvas enclosure and new upholstery in the cockpit of our boat. There was a large selection of Sunbrella and other canvases from which to choose, as well as an astounding selection of upholstery fabric. They did custom stainless steel supports for the canvas, and it doesn’t flap and bang like the old stuff when we fly down the river.
He was open to our ideas, and delivered on those plus things we hadn’t considered.
