When I come here with my wife we usually get the tuna melt, cubano, and mole tots. Satisfies a certain tasty craving that we can’t anyplace else really. The beers are usually good selections and we love sitting by the window playing cards while we eat. I’ve never had a bad experience here. Also, I’ve seen some great music here on the weekends, so for me there really isn’t another place like bunk bar.

I admit, I go to most sandwich places because of my husband. I balk at the thought of paying $ 10 for a sandwich. Yes, I know they use good quality ingredients and it’s no Subway. I understand they need to pay their employees a decent wage. I still balk. That said, if it’s a great ultimate sandwich, I don’t balk. I pay up, I shut up and eat(hint hint). The sandwich I got was the Cubano. It’s good, a bit dry. I could taste the ham, the pork belly, the pickles and cheese and crispy bread. I wanted more… more mustard, most saltiness, more melty deliciousness. On the plus side, they seem to give you a few more kettle sandwiches than the five they used to plop on there. Let’s just say, it’s been about three years in-between since I’ve gone to Bunk’s. I liked my sandwich, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back.

Had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. This classic combination is nearly perfected here. I highly recommend trying this.

First time here, and I would definitely be ok coming back. I read about the tuna melt in Food & Wine magazine, so that was a no-brainer. I know there were some negative reviews about small sandwiches and high prices, but I thought the sandwich was well worth the $ 11 I paid. The tuna was fresh, and the cheese was deliciously gooey… and not excessive at all. I was actually worried that it would be way too rich and decadent, but I found the portion size to be appropriate — I left feeling very full, but not overly stuffed. Any richness from the tuna and cheese was nicely offset by the pickles and mustard. I have mixed fillings about the bread… it was good and pleasantly crisp, but it was a bit too greasy. I felt like I had to wash my hands after eating. Actually, that was a common complaint from everyone I was with… good sandwiches, but overly greasy bread. That’s probably the only thing that’s keeping me from giving this place 5-stars. Well, the service was a bit less than 5-stars as well. It wasn’t bad, as many other reviewers found. It just wasn’t overly good. Food arrived within a reasonable amount of time(although in a staggered order, for some reason), and the workers were pleasant and professional. So, I’m glad I finally tried this place. Great, high quality food at a reasonable price… definitely a safe bet for a weekend lunch.

My friend and I grabbed a late lunch/early dinner here. I grabbed the cauliflower falafel and she had the roast beef sandwich. Both were delicious and the beer was great. Very chill atmosphere — would definitely come again.

This is the best damn roast beef sandwich in the city. Service was great, the food was fantastic. Can’t thank them enough for one of the best meals of my life(no joke; dip the roast beef sandwich in tomato soup — they nailed it with the horseradish sauce).

Great atmosphere. Wifi. Dim lights. I cant wait to come back for more business/pleasure! I got the House White(I know, wine) and a bowl of their tomato soup for $ 12 total and was a pretty happy camper :-)

Come for the sandwiches. Stay for the margarita slushie machine. Not too sweet. Excellent texture. Easy drink order for a typically busy barkeep. Unilocal pub crawls taught me to keep my drink orders easy at certain places. The margarita slushie satisfies my love of frozen beverages while not being«that customer» at the bar. Win/win!

I really like it here. It’s easy for food and drink. Not cheap but easy. Egg sandwich is probably my favorite. I’m not a fan of the a-1 sauce onions on the roast beef but today I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the meatball hero. A tad spicy and delicious. Order at the bar. Food and booze. Bathrooms are shared in the hallway with other nearby establishments. It gets loud as all hellz at night when they bust out the music. I really like it here.

I had big expectations for the pork belly Cuban sandwich since it has aired on several TV shows. The sandwich was forgettable. Certainly not bad by any means but nowhere near the amazing work of art painted by Guy and other hosts. The pork belly meshed well with all of the ingredients. Loved the mustard and pickle chips. A huge upgrade could have been the side options as the only choice is potato chips. Overall it was good but not great. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it but would be satisfied ordering it again.

The service was rather unpleasant. The sandwich was ok for a 9 dollars small sandwich. I will give it a second try.

Mistakes happen. That’s the unfortunate reality of the restaurant industry. When an establishment makes the inevitable mistake, how they react can make or break the experience and really says a lot about how they operate. A mistake happened. We called in a big order. They ran out of meatball sandwiches. They didn’t realize until I was already there for the pick-up. This is where the experience is made or lost. The couple servers that I worked with were incredibly and genuinely apologetic, not making excuses. We gave them our alternate orders. They were as timely as they could be in rushing the order out. As we waited, the bartender made some conversation and gave me a free beer as I waited. They took the inevitable hiccups that come with running a restaurant and handled it well! Thanks, Bunk! I’ll keep coming! BTW, the sandwiches are bomb. If you’ve been there, I’m sure you’ve already assumed as such ;)

We were steered here by a local. It in in an industrial area and parking was not easy. The beer was cold and delicious. The mole Tater tots were to die for, only 6 bucks and enough for 5 people, we were only 2. Great salads and sandwiches and a full bar with many special cocktails. I think it really rocks after dark.

This is definitely my favorite bunk bar location. As far as I can tell they serve the same sandwiches, potato salad, tater tots, and french fries here that they do at their other restaurants around town. The space here is larger, more cozy, roomier and airy in a fun little corner of the SE Industrial area of Portland. They also create some delicious libations that are sure to quench the thirst of even the snootiest of cocktail lovers. What most people don’t know though is that Bunk Bar on Water Avenue makes the best frozen margarita in town!

This is probably my favorite of all Bunk’s locations, unless their truck is out at some park. Maybe I’ve been lucky to always have good experiences here, but despite sometimes having to wait in a longish line to order, the food has never disappointed. The layout is bright and open with ample seating and a bar to chill at if you can score one of the coveted spots. Best of all is that this location is open past 3pm to go chow down on the amazing Bunk sandwiches! For me it’s all about the Italian Cured Meats. What an amazing sandwich! The Bunk marinated peppers are so good! With respect to the the Broad Street Bomber from Shut Up and Eat, the Italian from Bunk is my favorite sandwich in all of Portland. In a perfect world I could order it without the chips and be charged a $ 1 less, but even despite that I could happily eat the Italian several times a week and not get tired of it… I guess also in my perfect world someone can eat Italian cured meats numerous times on a weekly basis and have no health consequences what so ever… So in a city full of great sandwich options, if I have to choose one bring me here and I’m stoked.

We ate at Bunk bar with a buddy who is a Portland native. Beers are good, but the sandwiches are to die for. I’m from Bar-B-Que country, so when my buddy said the pork sandwich with slaw and mustard sauce was the best thing there, I rolled my eyes. I didn’t come cross country to eat want to be BBQ, but he was right. It was amazing. We got the Roast Beef, Tuna BLT, and the Pork and split them. All were good, but the Pork was off the hook(yes 90’s slang). David said they have bands there too. Seemed like my kind of spot.

For the 4th of July weekend, Bunk Bar was«Bunk Beach» offering refreshing beverages, cool sunglasses, free Tillamook ice cream, and two stages for a night of live and local music. I think the concept was great, but speaking to their food, I was more«mehhh.» I think their sandwiches are pretty decent, but I can never justify paying $ 10 for a kind of small sandwich. I had to order food because I was going to be there a while(boyfriend was playing) and I hadn’t eaten. I bought a Pork Belly Cubano and asked them to hold off the mustard(ickkk). Unfortunately, it’s already pre-made? They said they’d try to scrape as much of it off as possible. It was the only appealing thing so even though I despise mustard, I still ordered it. Not a fan that things are pre-made. Maybe it was because of the busy event? I hope so. I’d ideally like my food made to order, but whatever, I suppose. They did the best they could, but I could still taste the mustard for the most part. It came with a side of Kettle Chips — which I’m not fond of either. Fries are always the best side to any burger or sandwich, in my opinion. If you don’t mind paying a lot for sub-par food, this is the place.

Did a little SE brewery tour with out-of-town friends and decided to stop here to fill our bellies this lovely Sunday early evening. Good sandwiches though we were told that they were all pre-made so a friend who is allergic to dairy couldn’t order a sandwich without cheese… but it magically came out of the kitchen as he ordered it? Got the impression the bartender didn’t want to do her job or to spend two extra seconds ringing in the special order. Between three couples we spent over $ 100 on food and alcohol but the bartender was rude at every encounter. We requested special sauce when we ordered fries but were given a hard time when I had to ask for it when it didn’t arrive with the food. I was embarrassed to show Portland to friends and receive such sub-par service! I’m not high maintenance but I felt that way based on the attitude she was giving. Might give it another try in the future but I’ll have to forget the rudeness before then. If you don’t mind being under valued as a patron, this place is for you! Food: 3.5 stars Service: 1 star

Portland is a foodie’s paradise and Bunk Bar does not fail to live up to all its hype. I crave food from here, and I doubt that I’ll ever get tired of eating anything from here. So far, I’ve tasted their Pork Belly Cubano, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Mole Tots, House Mozzarella Sticks, and the Creamy Tomato Basil soup. The Pork Belly Cubano is so on-point. Between the two sandwiches I’ve tried, both of which are amazing, I would have to say the Cubano reins supreme since pork belly is my favorite type of meat. Absolutely delicious, and the pickles and mustard really elevates this sandwich to the next level. The Mole Tots are also a must-eat. This dish is very filling and the tots were cooked to crispy perfection. The crema sauce and avocado on the top added the perfect amount of creamy goodness that these tots needed to make them absolutely perfect. I could literally eat these every day for the rest of my life. The Mozzarella Sticks and Creamy Tomato Basil soup is also delicious and a nice addition/side to your sandwich as well. I’m a huge fan of both, but I would recommend getting the soup over the sticks, just because you can dip your sandwich into it for extra noms. TLDR: Bunk as fuck.
